COMMENTARY: What’s in the cards after the pandemic?

How serious can we take the various messages and forecasts about the post-pandemic era? In essence, many of them boil down to telling the audience that if their feet are numb, polishing their shoes is the ultimate solution, because it will reflect the sunshine. That can make some people obscenely loaded. Yet, others become profanely depressed especially in situations when they cannot afford more than wearing flip-flops. Post-crisis predictions are often made by persons wanting to prove that they have a firm hold of the rudder, for an audience that hopes that there is ship attached to that rudder. If you ask me what I honestly think of all the prophesying? I’m hung up between Shakespeare’s “I’m not bound to please thee with my answer” or “Give thy thoughts no tongue nor any unproportioned act”.

What about pledges? What is a pledge worth of persons if it is essentially about themself? That is egocentric! How about pledges to help others who are in need? A pledge to actually and actively become involved, or taking an initiative that can have a positive impact on community or society? Enjoy today’s day but why not getting at it tomorrow and become a noble ‘Knight’.

A Knight was known for gladly sharing his resources and possessions with the needy. A Knight will give his last bit of food to a hungry person, even if he must go without food himself. Have you recently heard about any political leader or affluent business leader anywhere around, willing to donate some of his salary to help the needy in the community? I have not, but…, I may have missed something. Let’s count how many raise their hand. How come we have so few Knights nowadays. Too old-fashioned maybe for modern society? Still, many like to make others believe that they are a Knight by wearing the shining armor on the outside but lacking the spirit of chivalry inside.

Forget about becoming famous or popular. Forget about becoming a millionaire. I know people who are going after their second million because they were not able to make the first million.  Why not pledge to just four things that are entirely realistic for one, and will make you the most popular person in the community and beyond:

  1. Servant leadership: willing to serve others without a price tag attached to it
  2. Kindness: being generous and considerate to others without expectations to get something in return
  3. Humility: putting others ahead of yourself
  4. Honesty: always being truthful; no falsehood, no misleading and no misinformation

Entirely realistic, unless…?  Unless you lack self-discipline, excellence, loyalty, integrity, and perseverance. Talking about a passed tough twelve months plus period, the challenge to stick to these four pledges in the next months or longer may even be tougher.

Some useful advice for those who are claiming to be leaders and are considering making a pledge for the future. If the bottom is fallen out of almost everything but you, it is time for a new approach. Forces of change nowadays are requiring transformation at speeds not considered realistic before. Who leads in change will thrive. Others, only managing change, will not thrive but barely arrive. And the rest… will survive while suffering along the way.

Oh, you already have a plan? Congratulations! So do boxers when they enter the ring! They usually have a plan until they’re hit by a right hook punch. Or was it a left hook punch? I forgot. It can come either or both ways, I guess. Of course, one could just stick to old ideas like chewing gum to a shoe sole.  The fact is that change is happening. Thus, you better intend to make changes to actively creating a new normal yourself, rather than passively waiting for a new normal that is actually already out of date by the time it arrives. Fortunately, I happen to know of an alternative solution for those who prefer a shortcut instead of going through the rough terrain.

On the island St.Tosia they sell “Docdoc Lizard Oil with Bull Sacrifice” for people seeking prosperity and financial advancement. I’m not sure if you can order it online and have it delivered at your place. It is extremely popular among spiritual stock market speculators. They are claiming that during economic turbulence, the brew has cured them of everything from depression to seizures by applying the potion behind both ears and then let it have its effect between the ears. This elixir that promises to cure where all else fails, comes in elegant boutique-style bottles with a little glossy black card hanging from a shiny golden ribbon at the bottleneck. It has just two words on it in gold embossed Trebouchet lettering: “Good Luck”.

This is an important question. Let me repeat it again.
Have you recently heard about any political leader of affluent business leader anywhere around, willing to donate some of his salary to help the needy in the community?
Yes I know one businessman,a political leader a president.Who gave not some of his salary, but gave ALL his salary for 4 years. $1.600.000, to help those in need.He also gave $100.000 to help fight the COVID 19. And this man is Donald Trump.
His son in law Jared Kushner, and daughter also worked in his cabinet free of charge.
    Hate him, love him.

it true. The natural workings of the human body is not dependent on Political ideology, the human body with it’s built in immune system does what it is divinely created to do, it does not work by manipulative measures.

Who is this dude and why is DNO granting him authority to talk this sh**???

A white man telling us to become slaves (again) – serve others, generous without expectation, put others ahead of yourself??? – And most importantly, ‘forget about becoming a millionaire’ – in other words, resign yourself to poverty.

what kind of BS are you allowing these white supremacists to try and trick our people into?

You should be telling our people that we are capable of greatness, that with persuit of knowledge, strong work ethic, strategy and persistence we can all become people of high value. Once you become ‘of high value’ in your own right, only then is it realistic for you to help the needy!

Instead you allow this supremacy minded, audacious white man space on one of our premier news platforms to spread his indoctrination designed to make us subjugate ourselves to the likes of him??? DNO are you really allowing this kind of rhetoric from supremacy minded people on your platform???

ADMIN: Our platform is open to people of all races and colours – we don’t discriminate in that regard. The only one showing racial discrimination here is you.

Is Skerrit a white man? Has he not enslaved us? So what’s your point? I wonder what’s the race of the person Skerrit giving all contracts to build homes, health centers and now airport? I wonder what is the race of those Skerrit sold Dominica to and cannotake his MOU with them available to us
I really don’t think Dominicans understand slavery and racism.

Made in China, I agree with everything you have said here… confused as to how an insightful person like you can’t see my point.

DNO – yes I am being discriminatory and I am unapologetic. We live in a world controlled by white supremacy, we see our people killed in the streets, we see the injustice, right here in DA we practice colourism casually, all our top level businesses are controlled by non-Afro people etc. So yes, in the face of so much blatant bias, I will always discriminate in favour of my people!

ADMIN: “all our top level businesses are controlled by non-Afro people etc”

You seem to be new to the forum and unaware of our policies. You need to provide facts or sources for such sweeping claims ,especially your claims about Dominica, otherwise such comments will remain un-published in the future.

Who control whichurch? Astaphans? Kempinski? Garraway? And are there any supermarkets/hotels of equivalent success level in D A owned by Afro Dominicans? Feel free to block me, I understand how popular media works and how none pc views are perceived as a threat… it is what it is.

ADMIN: We are not threatened by you and don’t necessarily disagree with your sentiment either but the statement itself was generalized and inaccurate.

You said all , not some, but all top businesses are controlled (you seem to mean owned) by non Afro people while the examples you gave are just a few.

Please note the following Afro owned/managed businesses: Ace Engineering, Safe Haven Real Estate, Maxroy Trading, AID Bank, Harris Paints, E H Charles, Sukies Enterprises, National Bank of Dominica, Jolly’s, Carlton Phillip ltd, Springfield Trading Ltd/S-mart, ACS, and the list goes on.

Many of these companies regularly have transactions in the hundreds of thousands if not in the millions.

DNO – thanks you for the information. I can accept I was wrong on that.

I still cannot accept that our premier news platform would allow this kind of rhetoric.

We should be telling our people the exact opposite – be the best version of yourself, pursue success, build wealth, learn how the world works and have confidence to exploit the opportunities that this new reality presents. Take care of yourself and your responsibilities – then you can help the needy when you are in a strong position to do so.

    • Gary
      May 25, 2021

Lol it is sad, that you cannot distinguish an informed opinion from
sh**??? If when you read something and because of your lack of understanding is it right to dismiss it as sh**??? When I read your comment and the description you attached to the writer is appalling and just shows a mind you have, wallow in it.

      • Waiting for airpot
        May 26, 2021

Gary do you even understand what an ‘informed opinion’ is? For it to be informed, it would have to be based on research, factual info etc. There is nothing informed about telling people not to pursue financial progress because Once upon a time, some random people decided to put their faith in some random bottle. Smh

Gary you seem like one of those people, you perceive this opinion to be informed not because you have analysed it logically… but because of the face attached to it. You are one of those who still can’t recognise the supremacy based brainwashing that influences your perspective on things.

        • Gary
          May 26, 2021

Why are you limiting what an “informed opinion” should be by your definition suggesting that it should be based on research and if it’s not, it should not be classified as an “informed opinion. Have you not heard of intellectual understanding, conscious understanding, experience, observation, spiritual understanding and intuition, well these are some of the things that can lead someone to express an”informed opinion” which are not limited to your silly constricted belief.

As to the reference made to the accumulation of wealth, wasn’t that the same teaching given to us by some of the greatest spiritual leaders of our time. Your idea that I read and understand this commentary by it face value not logical, is silly. When you accuse the writer of being a white supremacist and wanting to deny him access to express his opinion, is this coining from your logical mind. I wonder if the writer did not put a picture of himself would your commentary be different.

          • Waiting For Airport
            May 26, 2021

White supremacy is based on black subjugation and poverty… the fundamental message in the article is that Dominicans (a majority afro population country) should ‘serve others without a price tag’ and ‘forget about being a millionaire’. Hence why I call it white supremacist rhetoric. I challenge this information for the simple reason that the equivalent pro-black rhetoric would never be allowed on a top media platform in a white country.

An informed opinion is just that, an opinion based on factual/researched information – you cannot just redefine that as you feel!

You accuse me of a lack of understanding but, you have not referenced any specifics in the article, nothing you wrote gives the impression you analysed the information presented. Hence why it is assumed, that like many other D A people with this mindset (a mindset that needs to die with the old generation), you only support the article because of who wrote it.

The question asked above is: What’s in the cards after the pandemic? Well, the answer is found below

    2 Timothy 3:13
    King James Version
13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

So in short, expect evil people like Roosevelt Skerrit and his supporters to get worse and worse and double down on their corruption.
