I hope the active cases of the Covid-19 will dwindle to zero as soon as possible. This virus is causing too much physical, emotional and economical pain. It’s tearing the social fabric of the society apart resulting in intractable divisions.

Who is to blame for this rapid rise in the number of cases? Are the members of the boneheaded Cabinet? Mr. Skerrit hogged all the praise when the Civic cases were low. If he took the praise he must take the blame also.

@Ibo France, My deceased grand mother often had this expression: “You can take the cow to the river but you can’t force it to drink” Obviously, this was said in patois but i am not as adept in writing in patois as speaking it so i won’t embarrass myself on DNO.
Anyway, The government have gone out of their way to procure vaccines for Dominicans yet more than half the population remain unvaccinated. If the vaccines are available and people are reluctant to take them how can you blame the Government? You would be the first to come on DNO to call the government autocratic or dictatorial if they decide to make vaccines mandatory. It’s the likes of you that are playing politics with peoples lives and blaming others when things go wrong. You should stop with your mischief and help save lives.

This delta variant of covid is now running rampant throughout our community. Already in the past few weeks, three Dominican friends I have known for over 20 years have died suddenly of covid – all unvaccinated, whilst dozens more remain seriously ill – again all unvaccinated. I fear I might loose more of my friends to this deadly disease if vaccine hesitancy continues to prevail. I’d also like to see the visits of cruise ships curtailed, before some traveler brings to Dominica the new mu variant from St Vincent, where it has already been identified, or elsewhere.

We need to go back to the travel restrictions that worked for us, but that won’t happen without the people demanding it. Tourists want to come? Sell a yachting vacation package – with no disembarking within the quarantine period! The benefits of exposing ourselves repeatedly to people who spend only a few hours here are dubious at the best of times (https://www.caribbean-council.org/reassessing-the-role-of-cruise-tourism/) but during a pandemic the risk isn’t worth it.
