D.G.S to reopen on September 15th, 1 week after start of new academic year

Dr. Jeffrey Blaize

Chief Education Officer Dr. Jeffrey Blaize has announced that the new academic year will begin on Monday September, 8 2025. However, he said the Dominica Grammar School which was also set to open its doors on Monday will reopen on Monday, September 15.

“ On Monday, 8th September, our students will be reporting for duty and as far as we are aware, we have been monitoring [and] everything seems to be pretty much OK for us in education,” he told the media. “We have settled our teachers. They have done the professional development training over the past two days.  We are keenly anticipating the presence of our students on Monday, because  we are going to start implementing some aspects of our reform,  particularly the revised timetable,  ensuring that schools adhere to that.”

According to Dr. Blaize the Ministry of Education had a very good principals’ engagement on Wednesday , August 27 where they were sensitized on some of the aspects of reform.

“They are well aware of the aspects, but we had to go over some of them to make sure that everybody understood and received additional feedback even from our principals, but they really embraced the areas that we are going to be considering for reform,” he explained. “ So all our schools will be on board. The only exception, as you might have aware is the Dominical Grammar School that will resume on the 15th of September for our students.”

Dr. Blaize added, “ But our teachers have reported for school, even at the Dominical Grammar School as we speak, so they are preparing for the students.”

Meanwhile, he noted that the Ministry of Education will  hold its National Principal’s Meeting where both primary and secondary school principals will be invited.

He said there are 58 primary schools and 15 secondary schools.

As I recollect, an independent structural engineer, in addition to conducting a full investigation of the DGS auditorium roof collapse, was to make a comprehensive assessment of all structures under construction at the site.

I trust that the engineer’s report, when made available, will state that all other structures by the same architect, contractor and management team, are in fact safe.

Did the investigation assess “all other structures by the same architect, contractor and management team?” If I buy one crappy art piece from you, should I then conclude that all your other art pieces are crappy?! SMFH!

Neither parents nor the public have received any credible information about the real cause of the collapse of the roof as promised y the serial Liar (Roosevelt). Dominica is a country of sheep governed by a pack of rabid wolves.

How can the country remain so quiet and indifferent after such a near manmade disaster? Dominicans! You deserve Lying Roosevelt as your shepherd.

Hot debate. What do you think? Thumb up 7 Thumb down 5
