Dominica is reporting 5 active Covid-19 cases.
The announcement was made by National Epidemiologist, Dr. Shallaudin Ahmed during a press briefing on Wednesday.
“As of today our active cases are 5,” he said. “Total recovered cases are 192 and to-date there have been no deaths due to Covid-19.”
According to him, all the active cases are imported ones and are asymptomatic.
“So far Covid transmission remains sporadic in Dominica,” Dr. Ahmed revealed. “Our surveillance continues.”
Regarding online screening, Dr. Ahmed reminds passengers that they must upload and submit a valid negative PCR result.
“This is regardless of your vaccination status,” he remarked. “If you are vaccinated it’s good for you, if you are not vaccinated both groups are required to upload a negative PCR result.”
He made it clear that an Antigen test result would not be accepted.
Dr. Ahmed said so far a total of 19,612 PCR tests have been completed with a positivity rate of 1 percent.
“This is to say we have very low transmission, because lower the rate you are in a better situation,” he stated.
Meanwhile, concerning the country’s vaccination campaign, he said at present 19,138 people are fully vaccinated and an additional 1300 are partially vaccinated.
“So far 27 percent of our population is fully vaccinated,” Dr. Ahmed revealed.
Admin: People like me who like to talk and criticize other people I have to be able to prove what I say; I can’t remember when last I lied, and if I lie it is not too often and might be in some joke.
Otherwise, I try to be accurate as often as I can.

ADMIN: That article seems to have been taken down. If you have another source you can try resubmitting the comment.
Yes, they took it down; I discovered that this morning; it is no longer there in the Trinidad Express.
Sorry!
Once again Admin; I see you censor my submission regarding the crap this man keeps writing.
This is the same man who claimed that Dominica was free from COVID-19, and there were never more than 5 or 15 cases on the island; how do we arrive at the following?
““Total recovered cases are 192 and to date, there have been no deaths due to Covid-19.”
You see just because one has the title of docrtor does not mean they cannot lie!
And doctors who lie have no credibility!
I can scout your site and find all the comments he and Clarisa wrote; once written it is somewhere on the Internet; it is never lost or go away.
ADMIN: There have never been more than a handful of active cases at any one time but the the cumulative cases from the start of the pandemic will always be much more. For example, to date, there are 5 active cases, with 194 recovered and 199 total cases overall.
Exactly; so you got my point: I am concern about the way they portrayed Dominica, using words such as “Dominica has done well against the virus” as if to say they have a cure developed in Dominica.
I doubt these people know how many cases are now existing in the country, or how many of our people died from it.
The thing that bothers me most about that man, is the fact he does not know; nevertheless, he told Dominicans “the virus does not cause blood clots, not knowing while he was talking four people had died as a result of one of the vaccines.
I will not mention the specific vaccine, so as not to cause people to panic in Dominica and not get vaccinated because that’s people’s only hope; but in rare cases, people have died weeks after getting inoculated.
It happened in Europe and in the United States. Recently a Trinidad-born Indian doctor less than fifty years old died in Irland where he lived and work two weeks after he got vaccinated.
Read The Trinidad…
How many were fully vaccinated?
Did you even read the article??
My two Cents. whether or not Dominicans are full vaccinated the world and Dominica is going to gradually resume operations in order to sustain the economies.
As Dominica is continually welcoming and promoting immigration from other poor nations, and with those nationals being employed Dominica and sending money abroad, the spending power in Dominica is reduced.
With Dominica’s economy being one of the poorest of the Caribbean countries, and with its largest GDP being the tourism industry (can’t count CBI because we dont know the actual figures) a restart is necessary now.
The tourism industry has been stagnant for too long, that sector most be revitalized.
5 imported cases eh!
Is it possible that one of those coming in …… escaped quarantine?
How about the person that came in from Venezuela, while we were all praying and fasting? Was that person, that was completely enveloped in the usual smoke screen, put in quarantine? Is it still the case of one rule for one and an other rule for others. Never mind, at least we all love our PM.
Is it a simple case of you all do as I tell you and I do what I want to. Dominicans too stupid.
Good work so far, Dr Ahmed, but this is the time to be firm in advising against changing course now. It’s not over yet. It’s too early to abandon the restrictions that worked so well for us since this pandemic started. Negative PCR tests mean nothing after you step into an airport or get on a plane. Please push to reinstate quarantine at least until we see how delta changes the game. An outstanding practitioner tells people what they need to hear – not necessarily what they want to hear. That last part is sometimes the difference between a successful public health outcome vs one that fades at the finish line. Once again, great job!
5 cases for now, but they have opened the flood gates with the no quarantine for vaccinated people… I guess the 73% will have to fight the coming battles, since the vaccinated can spread it with little or no symptoms
