Dominica is not among the countries whose citizens are now eligible for visa-free access to Canada.
Tuesday, Sean Fraser, the Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship, announced the addition of 13 countries to the electronic travel authorization or ETA program.
Travelers from these countries who have either held a Canadian visa in the last 10 years or who currently hold a valid United States non-immigrant visa can now apply for an ETA instead of a visa when traveling to Canada by air. Effective today, eligible travelers from these countries can benefit from the program:
- Antigua and Barbuda
- Argentina
- Costa Rica
- Morocco
- Panama
- Philippines
- St. Kitts and Nevis
- St. Lucia
- St. Vincent and the Grenadines
- Seychelles
- Thailand
- Trinidad and Tobago
- Uruguay
The Canadian government said introducing visa-free air travel will make it faster, easier, and more affordable for thousands of travellers to visit Canada for up to six months for either business or leisure.
They said it will also help grow Canada’s economy by facilitating more travel, tourism, and international business, and by strengthening Canada’s relationships with these countries while keeping Canadians safe.
This decision, according to the Canadian government will also divert thousands of applications from Canada’s visa caseload, allowing them to process visa applications more efficiently, which will benefit all visa applicants.
Individuals who already have a valid visa can continue to use it to travel to Canada.

Edison James, a biological relative of mine was in power in Dominica for less than five years, perhaps just over four years when he sort a Mandate from the people by calling an election!
Within that brief period, he built how many Secondary in the country, including the one at Castle Bruce, and Wesley. Not only that he secured a loan from the government of Trinidad & Tobago, and entered the first phase of the building of an International Airport.
The UWP lost the election by not gaining a majority of the votes, so too the Labor Party did not get a majority either. So, what people like Athie and Roosevelt Rosie Douglas did was form a coalition government and siege power from the UWP. There was nothing James did within his four or less year tenure to cause any nation in the world to look down on Dominica.
Contradict me by naming one issue, of corruption the UWP was involved into!

This has wider consequences, affecting our faltering economy:
– It reduces the value of our passport, making it less attractive for prospective citizenship candidates.
– most of our passport sellers are hard nosed business people, looking for maximum returns and will now now concentrate on second citizenships that are easier to shift, relegating our Dominican passport to second choice at best.
– It makes it more likely that European Schengen countries and the U.K. reconsider their position and join Canada in their visa decision.
Should our government reduce the fees for a Dominican citizenship in a desperate attempt to generate more sales this would only lower the image of our
passport to that of a cheap bargain-basement document, which carries little or prestige.

Dominicans can apply can apply on line for a Canadian visa.

St. Kitts and Nevis, Antigua and St. Lucia all have a passport program like Dominica and there are always questions about individuals who who obtain these passports. Guyana and Jamaica don’t have passport program and they are not included on this list. Canada and Canada alone can decide how people enter their country. Since 2001 Dominica has been surviving without visa free access to Canada, it was removed at a time when the government had suspended the program…….
What a shame Dominica is not on this list. We must do doing something very wrong which other countries are not doing.

It is not surprising that countries like Canada would not extend visa free status to Dominican citizens. With the CBI system Dominica has, how can Canada or any
other country actually determine if that person really does live in Dominica? Or actually comes/lives in a country that is on a list that Canadians restrict access from.
You do realize that many of the islands on that list also have CBI programmes, most of which are ranked lower than ours, right? Nah, maybe you did not know this.

Don’t be disheartened my fellow Dominicans, in the next couple of months Canada will up date the list and Doiminica will be listed amongst these countries not requiring visas. However, you will need to show your Labour Party ID cards.
