As bus drivers continue to protest over what they consider to be unfair conditions and a lack of assistance from government, at least one individual has been shot by police, according to reports.
Information reaching Dominica News Online (DNO) indicates that a rubber bullet was used in the incident but one police officer told DNO that the bullet may have caused some injury to the bus driver because of the short distance from which it was fired.
The incident occurred close to the twin bridges in the vicinity of Auto Trade at Canefield, earlier this morning.
An eye witness told DNO that a police officer entered the bus of one of the protestors and attempted to move the vehicle which resulted in a scuffle between police officers and bus drivers.
According to the source, weapons were drawn and one individual is said to have been shot.
DNO understands that the individual has been transported to the Dominica China Friendship Hospital.
The first video below shows the altercation and subsequent shooting. The second video shows the man being carried away.
DNO will contimue to follow this story and provide more information as it becomes available.

You see, I don’t think policeman are properly reprimanded for their actions. Here we see, what…7 police officers on one man. They punch him up, kick him in his head, give him a bal. Use of firearms in civil law and order protection in Dominica is a very dangerous example. It can be argued that weaponizing the local police force sets a very upsetting trend in how the criminally minded individuals see the police force as an armed opponent — not a benign civil protection agency and the protector of law and order in the society. It encourages brutality and violence and could encourage the use of illegal firearms in the society. Recent news from Dominica indicate that illegal import of guns and use of guns in society is a growing problem. Maybe the legislation is defect and the authorities to lean on punishment. At least, all effort should be used to refrain from the US model of looking at guns as a protection measure and control tool for the police. It should only be used on special occations when dealing with armed felons. Not to injure a pissed-off bus drive protesting poor work conditions.

I could not help noticing how irrationale that police officer who shot the driver is. Apart from the unnecessary brutality, he discharged a gun in the melee amidst his colleagues, showing disregard for the their safety; he could have easily hit one of the officers.

A police officer opens fire on an individual at close range as there is a scuffle with five of his fellow officers surrounding. The only people carrying guns are the other officers. This is one trigger happy fool who has basically put the life of the citizens and other officers at risk. The only thing that fool needs to do is go clean the drains in roseau.
