Dominica State College welcomes freshmen with exciting Freshers’ Week

Roseau, DOMINICA- On the heels of hosting its 23rd Orientation Ceremony, the Dominica State College (DSC) presents a rebranded Freshers’ Week – SOAR, Student Orientation, and Registration activities from today, August 28 to September 1, 2023, marking the arrival of the 2025 Graduating Class. With more than 600 eager freshmen expected to join the DSC community, this week promises to equip learners with academic success resources and serve as a dynamic introduction to college life. The orientation is essential to the College’s commitment to providing new students a smooth transition into college life.

“Freshers” Week is more than just an introduction to College life; it’s a time where learners can make friends, build confidence, and explore the diverse offerings of the Dominica State College. It’s a unique experience that brings together students from different backgrounds, cultures, and high schools, fostering a sense of community and camaraderie. The week is filled with various events across Campus aimed at helping students familiarize themselves with our new surroundings while having a lot of fun. So, to all new students, seize this opportunity – make your Freshers Week 2023 one to remember,” said Monelle Alexis, Public Relations and Student Recruitment Officer, DSC.

This week’s activities will be as follows:

 On Monday, August 28, 2023, Dominica State College invites parents and families to their Parent and Family Orientation. Parents and families will comprehensively understand what to expect during their child’s time at the College. Their session also includes a campus tour, an opportunity to interact with the dedicated management and faculty, and financial talks from local experts. Parents and families are expected to be on Campus from 2:30 p.m.

 Tuesday, August 29, 2023, marks the New Student Orientation at the College. All new students are required to receive their exclusive Freshers’ packet, attend a convocation ceremony, explore the academic resources fair, and learn how to navigate the student portal (Classes). The day’s activity begins at 8:00 a.m.

 Wednesday, August 30, 2023, is dedicated to the Freshers’ seminars at the College. Students will engage in informative sessions covering essential topics such as Transitioning to College, Starting Off Right, Academic Skills Toolkit, Getting Involved, and a Faculty Orientation within their respective Faculty. Sessions begin at 8:30 a.m.

 Thursday, August 31, 2023, promises a day filled with exciting activities at the College. Students will explore the campus through guided tours, receive essential academic advice from Program Advisors, enjoy the Business League Barbeque, participate in Freshers’ workshops, challenge their minds with a game of Chess, indulge in an ice cream social, explore financial resources at the fair, showcase their athletic abilities at the sports meet, and enroll in their classes. The session starts at 8: 30 a.m.

 Finally, on Friday, September 1, 2023, students can unwind and relax with Movies on the Green from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

DSC eagerly anticipates the arrival of its 2025 Graduating Class during Freshers’ Week, fostering a sense of unity and empowerment right from the start. With a commitment to a seamless transition and a vibrant college life, Dominica State College invites students and families to partake in these enriching activities, forging connections that will last throughout their academic journey and beyond.

    I love our college and all it is doing and represents for us. However, being a predominantly black college in this part of the earth we should have a Black history class if not department.
    We have a Chinese(Confucius) classroom, I’m even open to a Gandhi classroom but it’s your people getting a bad rap worldwide because of not knowing themselves, and ancestors but the ancestors of others as we speak. The little that you can begin with now, will do a lot for students lives.

    Love the natural hair Monelle, you rock! Self love, self appreciation, you are the Black queen! Hope the female students learn from your positive example and role model to drop the weave and false hair obsession with Black women!
