DOMLEC urges consumers to file claims for appliances affected by outages

Adina Bellot-Valentine

Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the island’s sole electricity provider, (DOMLEC) Adina Bellot-Valentine is urging customers whose appliances have been damaged as a result of the frequent unscheduled outages to file a claim.

She made the announcement while addressing a press conference this week.

According to Bellot-Valentine, claims can be sent to the customers via email, or they can visit the DOMLEC’s main offices in Roseau and Portsmouth to receive a claim.

“Customers who have appliances that have been affected as a result of some of the unscheduled outages that we have had, there is a process in which they can claim,” she said.

She continued, “Of course, there is some information that you must have accurately to file the claim as to when the outage occurred. If you can give us a timespan within the time the outage occurred–because we must clarify everything before we can accept reliability for the claims.”

Customers are asked to contact DOMLEC via WhatsApp at telephone numbers 275-7083, 275-5694, or 275-0502.

Meanwhile, Bellot-Valentine advised customers to ensure that a DOMLEC technician inspects the appliance/appliances that were damaged.

“You file the claim, there is a process. The technicians have to go out to inspect whatever it is that you claim that has been damaged,” she stated. “So, customers please if you are filing a claim do not get your own technician to come in and look at your appliance and then ask us for a claim on it.”

Bellot-Valentine added, “We need to see it for ourselves to verify that it is as a result of the power outage that your appliance was damaged.”

You all can file claims infact you are encouraged to do so. The telling question is as follows, when will these claims be looked at and even more to the point, when will they be settled. My educated guess: just before the next election.

What you can’t claim for is loss of business due to power outages. Damage to appliances is peanuts by comparison.

I know, but we have to start somewhere, everything can’t be done at once. Although since people didn’t get covid relief it’s another opportunity to make amends with businesses.

Hot debate. What do you think? Thumb up 1 Thumb down 7

You ask for compensation for damage to your appliances caused by DOMLEC power surges, the powers that be will take you round and round the Mulberry Bush. This public statement is heavily laced with deception.
