Less than a month after 22-year-old Samron Thomas of Montin Grand Bay was granted bail on a charge of murder, the double-murder-accused man is yet again remanded into custody.
Samron along with Jovani Thomas and Christel Jermaine all of Montin Grand Bay, as well as Dijon St. Rose of River Street, Roseau, appeared before the court on firearm charges preferred against them by the police.
Jermaine and St. Rose were jointly charged for having in their possession a Beretta 380 pistol in addition to 6 rounds of .380 mm ammunition on August 15, 2023, at Fond Baron, Loubiere.
On the same day, the pair is also accused of having in their possession a nine-round 40mm capacity magazine and nine rounds of 40mm ammunition at Bath Road, Roseau.
At the hearing, Jermaine and St. Rose opted for a summary trial in the Magistrate’s court and Jermaine pleaded guilty to the two charges which occurred at Fond Baron, Loubiere, whilst St. Rose pleaded guilty to the additional charges which occurred at Bath Road, Roseau.
The matter was adjourned to August 22, 2023, for facts and sentencing and both men were remanded into custody at the Dominica State Prison until such time.
Meanwhile, Samron and Jovani Thomas who also appeared before the court on similar charges will stand trial in their matter.
The charge of the police is that, on August 15, 2023, at Fond Baron, Loubiere, the pair had in possession 19 rounds of 40mm ammunition as well as, a 22-round capacity 40 calibre magazine.
The men elected a summary trial and Jovani pleaded guilty to both charges whilst Samron pleaded not guilty.
However, Police Prosecutor, Sergeant David Andrew Jr. opted for a trial and objected to bail when the issue arose, citing section 6:1 of the Bail Act.
Chief Magistrate Candia Carrette-George who is presiding over the matters granted the prosecution’s objection and added that due to the nature of the offense, the court will not grant bail to the men.
Samron and Jovani were remanded into custody pending their trial which is set to begin on October 31, 2023.
The four men are represented by attorney-at-law Joshua Francis and Wayne Norde.

Alas! I grew up in Montin and I from Montin. What happened? What went wrong? Where are the parents?
Do not only look for the parents, look for the ‘man in charge’. See what he has done to our beautiful island and to top it all, he is working very hard at the moment to take away all your last hope to get rid of him legitimately. Sack this person. He has done nothing for DA he has done nothing for Dominica. He only cares for himself.

Wrong use of ammunition. These ammunitions should be used against the Satan that has come to STEAL, KILL AND DESTROY
Residents of Tetemorne, and indeed Dominica, are lucky this guy did not commit his [alleged] THIRD MURDER……I am one who was more than SHOCKED, a guy committing 2 [alleged] murders was on bail….This is incontrovertible evidence that our criminal justice system needs serious overhaul, because people’s lives are not valued, as it should be in this country.. Gangsters are at will to kill, law abiding citizens are at their mercy, yet still those rascals are being given slap on their wrists for their crimes.
This is a sick country….
A failed criminal justice system!
You saw him commit the murder? Do like our police force and justice system and just work on beff and hear say and do not produce facts and believe you all are going to hold down poor people. Our Country is being run by gangsters you all not removing them, but is poor people children you all fixated on? ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… All you think all you easy in that commonwealth? The treasury have no money and how much passports were sold ( this is a fact) all you not saying anything, a person cannot get a check above $1000.00, but you all want to condemn a young man based on here say and beff? If there is no evidence there is no basis to keep him locked up!!! and that’s the law!!!

Since guns are the preferred weapons of choice and they are not manufactured in Dominica, border security, surveillance and detection must be given top priority.
The penalty for the possession of illegal guns and ammunition must be harsh. Twenty plus years imprisonment should be the sentence. By giving these guys a slap on the wrist when found in possession of these deadly weapons, the court is aiding and abetting gun crimes.
Grand Bay folks againnnnnnnnnn!
Garson put water in you all wine. STOP bringing that community further down. What happen, you all death, dumb and blind?

I hope the attorneys don’t come before the court and plead that they are first time offenders and ask for mercy. These types belong in prison
For what honestly they do nothing
