Drowning, fatal crash and fall among weekend’s fatalities

(L-R) Kendall Severin, Sherman Julien and Irvine Colaire

The Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force is now investigating four fatalities and a stabbing incident which occurred this weekend.

On June 17, 2023, Kendall Severin of La Plaine who was a patient at the Dominica China Friendship Hospital (DCFH) succumbed to a stab wound.

The wound was inflicted on Severin on June 3, 2023, in La Plaine. One individual is in police custody assisting with ongoing investigations.

Also on June 17, an infant is said to have drowned in a family pool at Morne Daniel.

Police say that once the male child was recovered from the pool, he was rushed to the DCHF but efforts to resuscitate him proved futile and he was later pronounced dead.

Investigations are also ongoing into a stabbing incident at Wesley on the night of June 17, which has resulted in one man nursing injuries at the hospital.

The following day, 44-year-old Sherman Belunga Julien of Newtown was the ill-fated victim of a road fatality.

Information is that the local entrepreneur who was popularly known for his Wapap beverage was driving in a northerly direction on the morning of June 18, in the Morne Espanol area, when the fatal crash occurred.

A few hours following Julien’s death, news broke that a man from Palm Tree Woodford Hill had died after falling from a pear tree.

The deceased has since been identified as Irvine Colaire.

The police say investigation into these fatalities are ongoing.
