In a heartening display of community spirit, residents of Dublanc in the Parish of Saint Peter have come together to rally support for Nickese Morancie, a determined contestant in the upcoming Miss Dominica pageant. The 21-year-old, who is the sole participant in the competition without corporate sponsorship, has received an outpouring of encouragement from her community as they stood united to assist her as she encounters sponsorship challenges.
The vibrant display of solidarity took centre stage during Nickese’s official village launch, yesterday, Sunday, January 21, where residents from Dublanc, Bioche, Colihaut and environs along with those in the diaspora came together to pledge various amounts, pooling their resources together to assist their very own in funding her journey to the Miss Dominica stage.
While exuding gratitude for the overwhelming community backing, Nickese seized the moment to appeal to potential sponsors. She invited them to join her cause, assuring them that their investment would be meaningful and impactful. In the same breath, she made it clear that she is committed to doing everything within her power to give her best performance on the night of February 8 and bring the crown home to the West Coast.
As the Miss Dominica pageant looms, just 17 days away, Nickese’s team shared with Dominica News Online (DNO) the significant challenge they face in acquiring essential items due to the absence of sponsorship. DNO has also attempted to contact the Dominica Festival Committee (DFC) to inquire about the existence of any measures in place to ensure the provision of support to her, but our quest for answers was unsuccessful.
Nickese, who will hit the stage as contestant number two, and represent the cultural community of Dublanc previously earned accolades as the winner of the Miss Wob Dwiyet 2022 competition. On her journey to the coveted title, she aims to bring attention to critical ecological issues through her platform, “The Preservation, Conservation and Promotion of the Environment and Wildlife.”
For those willing to contribute and assist Nickese on her journey, donations can be made through MoBanking using the following details: account number 300019547, telephone 7673152459.
Team Nickese extends a special thank you for the overwhelming support that she has received thus far.
