Meritta Hyacinth

Education Minister, Octavia Alfred said she is confident that the new President of Junior Chamber International (JCI) West Indies, Meritta Hyacinth will further amplify the organization’s mission and inspire a new generation of leaders to actively participate in the betterment of society.

Miss Hyacinth was installed as president during the 63rd JCI West Indies National Convention held in Antigua and Barbuda recently and is the first Dominican to hold this position.

“The Ministry of Education applauds Miss Hyacinth’s outstanding dedication and congratulates her on this well-deserved achievement,” Alfred said. “We are confident that she will do well as the JCI West Indies president and she will further amplify the organization and inspire a new generation of leaders to actively participate in the betterment of our community and society at large.”

She continued, “Miss Hyacinth’s remarkable achievement as the first Dominican to be elected into this prestigious position in the 64-year history of JCI in the West Indies serves as a testament to her excellence, leadership, and her unwavering commitment to serve.”

According to Alfred, Junior Chamber International has played a fundamental role in fostering leadership development and promoting social responsibility, not only within the Caribbean region but also on a global scale. Through its emphasis on international cooperation and sustainable development, JCI has left a permanent mark on communities, fostering collaboration and empowering young leaders to drive positive change.

Miss Hyacinth currently serves as the senior programme officer at the Ministry of Education and has demonstrated an exceptional passion for community service and a profound commitment to preserving the cultural heritage of Dominica.

“Her efforts to nurture growth and unity within our communities have served as an inspiration to many,” Alfred stated. “The spirit of proactive leadership and social responsibility is a mark that she will leave.”

Amen. I fully agree with your comment. If they were serious about gender equality they would focus on young boys in these times. Best they reterm is as the advancement of women.
