COMMENTARY: A response from the gay community in Dominica

miridomIn response to the recent media coverage in Dominica about gays and lesbians, MiRiDom decided to ask members of Dominica’s homosexual community what they thought of the responses to the media coverage on the issue. In general, they felt that much of the public response was characterized by an irrational fear of homosexuals, which translates into hatred, while there was also misunderstanding about the lifestyles of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) people. However, many people were impressed by some of the thoughtful reactions by people from many walks of life.

They were pleased, for example, with the response given by the Catholic Bishop of Roseau (DNO 21st May 2013) regarding MiRiDom’s campaign to decriminalise the anti-buggery laws, and were pleased that Sir Brian Alleyne addressed the issue during his lecture on Faith and the Legal System (June 18th 2013). They also recognized the support given by Mark Marie (DA Vibes 27 May, 2013) who called for the decriminalisation of homosexual conduct. The Prime Minister’s response (DNO 27th May, 2013) was less clear but he did seem to suggest that while buggery was a crime, he said “As it is now, anybody who wants to engage in whatever activities can do so in the privacy of his home but one should not believe that the government is prepared, or thinking of or wanting to make this a public affair.”

However, what the lesbian and gay community found particularly disturbing was the article by Ian Jackson (17 June 2013, Artistes: Give no comfort to MiRiDom). They thought that it reeked of hatred and intolerance, and wondered, as a teacher, how he would treat students struggling to resolve their sexuality in the Catholic secondary school where he works. Mr. Jackson’s article was, however, dealt with in a stern response by freelance columnist Michael Norris (The Sun, June 25th 2013).

Members of Dominica’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender (LGBT) community also drew attention to Evangelical church leaders who, it appeared, seem to base their objections on Biblical quotes that castigate those who practice homosexuality. However, these ancient quotes are not based on modern scientific and sociological evidence. Homosexuality is not a matter of choice, as scientific research has revealed in recent years, it is a characteristic that has been found to be both innate and immutable, a possible combination of natural influences and predispositions that help form one’s identity.

Other concerns of Dominica’s same-gender loving community are:

1.    The association of homosexuality with pedophilia. One middle-aged man from the north of the island said: “There are people in the society who try to associate homosexuality with pedophilia. In reality they have nothing in common.” Homosexual people are no more likely to sexually abuse children than heterosexual people. The same applies to ‘child predators’ and ‘recruiters’.

1.2.    The notion that homosexual people are inherently promiscuous. There is a common belief that gay people cannot control their sexual desires. However, like heterosexuals, some gay and lesbian people are promiscuous; most are not. While it is true that irresponsible sexual behaviour is a danger to society because of the public health implications, this is applicable to all sexually active persons, not homosexuals singularly. Perpetuating the idea that it is only homosexuals that have multiple partners creates a false sense of security for the majority of sexually active persons who are in fact heterosexual. HIV and other STD’s do not discriminate based on sexual orientation. All are at risk and all should take the necessary precautions.

2.3.    The idea that gay relationships do not last. Like heterosexuals, most homosexuals would like to have long-lasting romantic relationships but, as one middle-aged lesbian said: “Due to the intolerance shown to us by the wider society, we find it difficult to have relationships that are sustainable.” Hostility and lack of support from family, colleagues, neighbours, and friends often make it challenging for same-sex couples to build the kind of bonds that heterosexual couples take for granted. Where a community supports a relationship it can easily prosper and for many same-sex couples that kind of support from loved ones and from the wider community is absent.

3.4.    The notion that all gay people are gender non-conforming. Many people wrongly believe that most gay men and women display traits opposite to the traditionally assigned gender traits of the society in which they live. This is not the case: most people who identify as gay or lesbian in Dominica (or, indeed, anywhere else) are not visibly “feminine” (homosexual men) or “masculine” (homosexual women). The general public is largely unaware of the identities of sexual and gender minorities in Dominica and as such they generalize based on stereotypes from popular media. Gay people are diverse and cannot be limited to caricatures.

4.5.    The stereotyping of gay people means that they are all thought to be fashionable, have skilled jobs, speak properly and have good manners. This is not always the case. As a young professional gay man put it: “Gay people run the gamut of the society… from the vagrant beggars to the most important decision-making people in the society”.

Overall, gay and lesbian Dominicans thought that for the most part the comments in the media were not concerned with understanding the “Gay Reality” in Dominica. Everyone will have family and friends who are gay and there is nothing that they can do about eliminating the situation; sooner or later we will all have to deal with it. Gay people have always been part of Dominican society and will continue to be.

MiRiDom was encouraged in many ways by the response from the Dominica LGBT community, and from some heterosexuals. There were many comments thanking MiRiDom for their bravery in taking the issue to the public for discussion, and they look forward to the day when section 16 of the Sexual Offences Act will be repealed.

MiRiDom continues to keep its ‘ears to the ground’ on how we can assist in ensuring that human rights are granted to all Dominicans in a reasonable and responsible manner. And it continues with its campaign to “Respect everyone’s right to be”.

    Before people can give any credence to MIRIDOM they should know more about this organization. Why does DNO not gives us the names of its current executive officers? Questions come to mind that should be answered and the answers should be made public.

    What are their qualifications? MIRODOM is challenging the integrity of the Bible, and criticising our dependence upon the “ancients texts” that forbid homosexuality. This is done using language and terminology that makes a mockery of the texts. If they wish to discuss the texts I would be happy to do this but we do not have space on DNO.

    We would also like to know if the MIRIDOM people have successful marriages and orderly happy families. People who reject the light of the Holy Scriptures regarding sexuality usually have their problems. Nowhere does this show up more than in their home life. To be a leader in my field I have to demonstrate that what I teach is working in my life.

      Satan’s strategy to get people to break God’s commandments is to first get them to doubt the Word of God. In the Garden of Eden when the devil tempted Eve to eat the forbidden fruit he used this approach by asking her “Hath God said?” when she told him God had told them not to eat the fruit from the tree in the midst of the garden.

      Today we have the advocates of homosexuality casting doubt on the inspiration of the scriptures by raising questions about the dependability of the “ancient texts”.

      The following are among many facts that should be taken into consideration about the New Testament texts.

      The events recorded in the New Testament were written within 70 years of when they actually happened.
      This cannot be said of many other pieces of ancient literature which are believed today and taken at face value.

      When the New Testament was written many of the people who witnessed the events were still living.

        Before you challenged the validity of the “ancients texts” you should have thought about this!
        The people who actually witnessed the miracles Jesus performed, along with those who saw Him crucified, and those who saw Him after He rose from the dead were still living when the New Testament was written.

        Even in the first century A.D. these sacred letters and books were copied and circulated widely.
        They were read in the churches (congregations) on the first day of every week and available for public inspection. If what they contained were lies there were many hundreds of people who could have come forward and exposed them as false! The world has absolutely no record or report of this happening from the first century.

    I think some of you guys just need to relax a bit on homosexuality. Its like your stuck in a time warp while the rest of the world continues. To be a mother or a father who would rather turn a blind eye,ignore or be in denial of their own flesh and blood being gay is very selfish. To let your child live an unhappy unsatisfying life because you are to stubborn to change and adapting is ignorant. Your Island is full of beautiful happy RELAXED people so how can you have all of this uneducated disgust. C’monnnnnn give your heads a shake. You want a tourism boost than you gotta clean up your thought process. Having a gay man or lesbian woman be comfortable being who they are and living free without worrying will not affect YOUR life and YOUR home. Who CARES who someone chooses to whine up on. lol Live in the now not the cowboy and indian days.

      As long as organizations like MIRIDom are promoting the gay agenda and DNO is printing news items like this there will be concerned people who type in comments speaking for the other side.

      Each time a nation decriminalizes homosexuality or legalizes same sex marriages the greater the pressure such lobby groups put on nations like Dominica to change its position.

      And the fact that so many other nations are celebrating this abomination is a strong argument that will win the day unless people can be awaken and motivated to think for themselves.

      Years ago in Canada governments licensed the manufacture and sale of cigarettes. It was “cool” to smoke. Even doctors and nurses smoked. I remember our family doctor lighting in our home when I was a kid. But guess who was against smoking? It was the evangelical Christians. Guess who spoke out against it? Not the doctors with all their education! It was the Protestant pastors and evangelists! Especially the shouting, Bible thumping Pentecostal preachers. Oh, how they irked people! They didn’t have any science to use against smoking in those days. They just said silly things like “If God wanted you to smoke He would have made you with a smoke stack on your head!” People laughed. Some lit up. Others butted out.

      Now we know cigarettes cause various types of cancer and many other diseases. Go for a medical check-up and the doctor will ask if you smoke. Try to buy an insurance policy and the agent will want to know if you smoke.

      In my province in Canada (Ontario) 13,000 people die every year from tobacco smoke. Across Canada from province to province governments have brought in laws to limit tobacco adverting and the places where people are allowed to smoke. They are spending a fortune of tax payer’s money to get people to quite smoking.

      Excuse me, but this shows how stupid, stupid, stupid some governments can be! Please remember this when a militant homosexual lobby group tells you of all the countries whose governments have abolished their ant-gay laws and legalized same sex marriages.

      Let all who know better continue to speak out. Let them continue to write their comments. But more important they should take action at election time. Find out where their candidates stand on these moral issues. If they don’t at first make it know you ASK them! Get it out in the open. Rally the troops! Vote for those candidates who let you have laws that are in harmony with God’s laws.

      We lost the battle in Canada at least for the time being because we didn’t move soon enough. Dominica can do better.

    All sin is equal in the eyes of God and I ask forgiveness everyday for mine. I try not to repeat them but things happen and that’s no excuse. I can’t tell someone who to love. The same thing in me that ticks when I see a drop dead gorgeous memember of the opposit sex is the same thing in them I guess that ticks when they see a memeber of the same sex. I am not God I can’t judge. I can only pray that at in the end we will all be glorifying in heaven.

      Pac: You are sincere and your comments are worth considering. Please allow me to add the following. :idea:

      (1) All sin IS equal in the sight of God in this sense. Every sin is a violation of God’s commandments and will bring undesired consequences unless the individual repents. :-|

      (2) All sin is NOT equal in this sense. Some sins are in a class by themselves because of the harm they do to those who commit them and to other people. Some sins are a greater assault on the purposes of God than others. Because of these differences such sins will be punished more severely. :cry:

      (3) :idea: For example nobody would say stealing a loaf of bread is equal to murder, or that throwing a stone through a neighbor’s window is as bad as burning a neighbor’s house down.

      (4) Homosexuality is in a class by itself because: (a) God says it is “against nature” in Romans 1:26-27. (b) Homosexuality violates the model for marriage – the cornerstone of civilized society – which God has given the human race according to Matthew 19:4-6. :evil:

      (5) God has shown that homosexuality is more serious than the other more common sexual sins by destroying at least four cities including Sodom and Gomorrha and by telling us that this is intended to be an EXAMPLE to all who would indulge in this perversion in Jude vs. 7. :!:

      (6) Most of us are tempted at times by wrong thoughts and feelings. We should stay away from places and out of situations where we are likely to be tempted. But being human we sometimes fail. If we are Christians we can confess our sins to God and be sure of His forgiveness according to 1 John 1:7,9. Of course we must try to avoid letting it happen again.

      (7) Here is the difference.

      When we sin we know it is a sin.

      We don’t deny the act was sinful.

      We don’t try to justify the sin by saying we “were born that way”. Even though we were all born sinners we know we are responsible for our actions.

      We don’t defend ourselves by saying people who condemn our actions are “phobic”, or “hateful”, or “bias”, or are “discriminating” against us.

      We don’t try to entice others – especially children and young people -to commit the same sins. :-x

      A few weeks ago I talked with the parents of a nine year old boy in Canada who came home from school and told them, “Today I learned all about gays. The teacher taught us how to come out of the closet.” I talked to the parents of a fourteen year old girl in Canada. She came home from school and told them, “Today we learned how gays do it and how lesbians do it. The teacher showed us how to put a condom on a banana.”

      (8 When I went to school only heterosexual marriages were legal. We NEVER heard this kind of teaching in the classroom even regarding heterosexual relationships. We got the basics of anatomy and physiology. Our parents taught us that sex belonged in marriage. The church reinforced this. Where the students worse off for not getting the kind of morally bankrupt perverted sex “education” they are throwing at the kids now? You judge. :wink: My wife and I celebrated our fiftieth wedding anniversary April 20, 2013 :-D :-D

      In Canada (Province of Ontario) schools are being FORCED to give the students this kind of “education”. Plans are underway to make it mandatory for every school to have a “club” that meets on a regular basis to make sure health classes and phys-ed classes are teaching homosexuality and introducing same sex marriages as an alternative to heterosexual marriages. No exception is made for Catholic schools or private Christian schools. Of course we are fighting back and the end is not yet. :-|

      One school brought two lesbians into a classroom to tell the students about the beauty of same sex relationships.

      (This is what to expect in a nation when homosexuality is decriminalized and same sex marriages are legalized. Please don’t let it happen in the beautiful island nation of Dominica. At election time know where your candidates stand on these moral issues and vote for those most likely to uphold the laws of God. If they don’t tell you what their position is on the anti-gay laws you ask them :!: Get it out in the open and do the right thing for your nation. :oops:

      (9) Nobody is having a pride parade to draw people’s attention to any of the other sexual sins. Can you imagine a parade to celebrate fornication or adultery? People guilty of these sins know their behavior is wrong and have enough sense to be ashamed.

        As a resident of Ontario, Canada, I think it important to correct the highly garbled version of events in Canada presented by Rev Hill. The law to which Rev Hill refers prevents schools from banning Gay-Straight Alliances (GSAs). GSAs are student groups, open to everyone of any sexual orientation, that work against the harassment and bullying of other students because of their gender or perceived sexual orientation. Since bullying of students perceived to be gay or lesbian is a very serious issue in Canadian schools, this student-led initiative, supported by the Ontario government, should be celebrated by everyone who believes that all school children should be safe and feel safe while at school. Secondly social research shows that awareness of HIV and safer sex is actually declining among Canadian students. Any school that is educating its students about how to avoid HIV is doing an valuable job in educating youth. Finally, Ontario is a place where many different communities can and do celebrate their cultures. Two of the largest celebrations are Caribana where Caribbean Canadians celebrate island culture and Pride where LGBT Canadians celebrate their culture. Many tens of thousands of people come out to help both communities party and just have fun. This celebration of diversity should be welcomed by all.

Yes we need to pray for the gay community so that people will stop judging them and making their lives a misery but also to pray for you so that you will accept that gay people are children of God – indeed we were made in God’s own image and likeness.         Homosexuality is demonic.

        Homosexual men cruise the streets, parks, bars, and baths looking for partners. They usually are not looking for even a “one night stand”. They want a “casual contact”, somebody they can duck into the washroom or the bushes with for a few minutes. Often they don’t even get his name. If they met their partner on the street the next day they wouldn’t recognize him.

        There is no love or romance in this kind of “relationship”. We have reviewed cases of “gay” men who have had – some of them – sex with a hundred or more partners without settling down with one of them.

        There is no romance or love in this lifestyle. It is demonic lust.

        But thank God a homosexual can be forgiven and set free through faith in Christ and the power of His blood! There are former homosexual who are now happily married and have families of their own.

        You are right about buggery. It is not about love or romance.

        A man sits in a bar waiting to make eye contact with another man. If it happens at the nod of a head or the flick of a wrist they head to the washroom for a few minutes of private time.

        Often the men don’t even get each other’s names. If  they saw each other a week or two later one may not recognize the other.

        You can argue that such behavior takes place among heterosexuals with prostitutes and their clients. This is true. But it is much more common among homosexuals. It is the gay lifestyle.

        A gay man cruises to make a contact. Who it is makes no difference because it is a one time thing. Many homosexuals have had hundreds of partners. The warmth and caring of a true loving relationship like that found among heterosexual couples is sadly lacking.

        Please read Matthew 19:4-6, Romans 1:26,28.

    all sin is sin so if God says it is a sin then it is a sin. the lord who create the hold universe said that it is an abomination. who says that they cannot change. i have herd of those who have change when they met Jesus the creator of this world. the truth is that what you all and all other sin are not natural and not what God expects from us. God said man and woman and that is the way he wanted it. the truth is that God is very sad of what has happen to his creators and one they all that will change. do it in private it is an abomination do it in public it is an abomination and shameful. God is not pleased with us and how we treat his words. just for you to practice your sin you say it is ancient come on. anytime you have to change the truth which is God word to live well you are in big trouble and on your way to hell. to all weather you are guy or hetero if you are not living the bible way there is hope for you. he said come unto me all he that labor and heavy laden and God will give you rest. repent from your sin for he is faithful and just forgive you and Clarence you from all unrighteousness.

      There we go again, this is a human rights issue and not a moral Biblical issue. People have the right to exist even if they do not believe in your interpretation of the Bible. All sin is sin so why should some be selected as a crime when it does not affect anyone else? is it because they are not a majority?

        Zagaya:

        Thank you for sharing your opinion and asking a couple of pointed questions. These are the kind of comments that make us think and that is good. Please allow me to respond with these few thoughts.

        Everybody is entitled to their opinion even if some opinions are right and others are wrong. Exchanging opinions is one way we learn and grow. Each of us will evaluate the other comments by our own terms of reference: hopefully that which we believe and have confidence in.

        I will not try to hide my bias. I am a Christian and an ordained minister. As such I believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God. My preaching, counseling, and writings are based upon the Bible.

        Homosexuality is NOT a human rights issue. It IS a moral issue because there IS a difference between right and wrong when it comes to sexual behavior. It IS a Biblical issue because God Almighty – the Creator of the heavens and the earth – DOES have a right – to tell us what we may and may not do! No human being has a right to rebel against God and disobey His commandments. He will ALLOW us to make choices for right or wrong in this life. But He will hold us accountable on the judgment day.

        People who reject the Word of God do NOT have a RIGHT to exist. Worst still, we are ALL sinners. None of us (myself included) have a RIGHT to exist! But God is love. He is a God of mercy and grace. He sent His Son to die for our sins. He has provided – through the shed blood and death of Christ – salvation for all who believe the gospel and receive Him as their personal Savior! He ALLOWS us to exist so we will have an opportunity to be saved. Then he ALLOWS believers to exist so we will have the joy of serving Him for a while in this world!

        There are certain rules we must follow when it
        comes to interpreting the Bible. Our pastors spend years in college or seminary learning the rules of Biblical interpretation and how the scriptures apply to our lives. There are millions and millions and millions of Christians (born again people) in the world. We do not all agree on certain details. Yes, there are differences between us when it comes to non-essentials. But we DO agree on the basic, fundamental, and essential truths! These things include the moral laws of God.

        All sin is sin but not all sins can be made crimes because it would be impossible to know who is committing the more common transgressions or where. The police, courts, and jails could not handle the workload. But until recently almost all civilized nations had laws that made homosexuality a crime. This is because God says it is against nature in Romans 1:26-28 and it violates the model God has given the human race for marriage in Matthew 19:4-6. Marriage is the cornerstone of civilized society. Marriage was given to us by God our loving Creator. It is not an institution that gradually developed to meet a social need. No human government has the authority to redefine marriage. It is not theirs to redefine!

        We do not despise or treat anybody differently because they are a minority. Evangelical Christians themselves are a minority in every nation and in some places are being persecuted and put to death for their faith. In most parts of Canada Black people are still a minority. But my wife and I are members of a church that has 700 (sometimes more) people in attendance most Sunday mornings. From time to time I have the honor of preaching at this Sunday morning service. We are happy to report that 50% or better of our congregation are Black people. We have a terrific Black minister on our pastoral staff (with a M.Div. in Counseling after his name) and Black people working for the lord in every department of the church!

        When I visit other countries as an evangelist I am often in a place where I am in the minority as far as race is concerned. Some of my best crusade services have been in large Pentecostal churches in Caribbean nations. Earlier this year I conducted 13 services in Dominica Republic. I was
        sometimes the only White man in in a capacity crowd that filled the church to overflowing! Words could never describe the love I felt coming from those folks and the undeserved kindness they showed me! That was my fourth visit to their country to preach the gospel.

        As a people Evangelical Christians are known to champion the cause of minorities. But when people alienate themselves by rebelling against God and pursing sinful lifestyles they place themselves at a disadvantage. Unfortunately when they break the law they make it difficult for others to relate to them as they would normally do. The solution to this is certainly NOT to do away with the law. It is for the offenders to change their ways.

        It is also because homosexuality is (a) against nature (Romans 1:26,27) and (b) it is contrary to God’s model for marriage and human sexuality. (Matthew 19:4-6)

        It is because homosexuality is not conductive a happy and healthy life. God has our best interests at heart. He wants what is best for us. This is why He has forbidden some types of behavior. It is not to rob us of our joy. It is to guide us into an abundant life.

        Homosexuals have more mental health issues. They have a higher rate of alcoholism. They have a higher suicide rate. They have a shorter lifespan.

        Once a man crosses the line into the dark world of same sex relationships he is prone to experiment with other types of alternative sexuality. These men sometimes become involved in the most horrendous of crimes.

But my question is, why do the gays and lesbians want the world to know that they are who they are? We all know that they exist from “time immemorial”. Straight people do not go around stating how straight they are. They should not be discriminated against, neither should people hate them. But truly, they could behave normally and enjoy themselves like everyone else without this public outcry.

        The public outcry is coming from people who do not believe anybody has a right to tell them they cannot engage in certain types of sexual behavior. They object to any laws that would restrict their sexual activity.

        Two things should be understood.

        First, God Almighty who created us does have the right to tell us how to live. He has given us laws to govern our behavior. These laws are mandatory not optional. The New Testament (not the Old Testament) contains the Divine laws for the entire human race during this present age. These include prohibitions that forbid certain types of sexual activity including homosexuality. These passages in the New Testament are Romans 1:26-28, 1 Corinthians 6:9,10, 1 Timothy 1:9,10, and Jude vs. 7.

        Second, God has delegated to human governments the responsibility to make and enforce laws that will give us an orderly society according to Romans 13:1-4. For hundreds of years nations with a Christian heritage have had laws that honor the will of God regarding human sexuality as He has expressed it in the New Testament.

        It has not been possible for practical reasons to criminalize the more common sexual sins like fornication and adultery. It would not be possible to know who is committing these sins or where. The police and the courts could not handle the workload. But nations have had laws against homosexuality. There are things that place it in a class by itself. (a) God says it is against nature in Romans 1:26. (b) It strikes at the model God gave the human race for marriage which is the very cornerstone of civilization in Matthew 19:4-6.

        However, a person who has been in trouble with the law for ANY reason should not be treated rudely. What they did is a matter between them, whoever they offended, the police, and the court. We should interact with them no differently than we would with anybody else. We should treat every person kindly and if possible extend a helping hand. Nothing less than this is Christianity!

        Even in a nation that has laws against homosexuality very few homosexuals have been in trouble with the law. They probably will not be unless they flaunt their sexuality in public which sends a message that something God condemns and the law forbids is O.K.

        This does not negate the need to use wisdom. There are some people a merchant should not leave in charge of his store. And their are people a parent should not let babysit their children.

        Marriage is defined in the scriptures as being the union of one man and one woman hopefully for life according to Matthew 19:4-6. Because marriage is the cornerstone of civilized society we
        have laws to protect it based upon the Bible. This has been the way it has been in all nations with a Christian heritage for hundreds of years.

        It has only been for a few decades that same sex ”marriages” have been legally accommodated
        in some nations. This change was not because of research or any new knowledge. It was entirely political. Genuine Christians do not accept the change because they are committed to God and the Word of God which has not changed.

        Some nations still base their laws upon the Holy Scriptures. If people break these laws naturally that makes them criminals but unfortunately that is their problem.

        Our Lord Jesus said “Bless them who persecute you. Do good to them who despitefully use you. If your enemy is hungry give him to eat. If he is thirsty give him to drink.”

        When he hung on the cross, his back lashed and bleeding, a crown of thorns on his head, and nails in his hands and feet, and his tongue and lips dry and parched, he prayed for his enemies saying “Father forgive them. They do not know what they are doing.”

        This is the teaching and practice of Christianity. It is NOT the way of Islam!

        Islam is a belief system (I won’t call it a religion) of hate, violence, blood shed, rape, and murder not only directed towards foreigners, strangers, and outsiders, but towards other Muslims who have defected from their own faith, and those who belong to different Muslims sects.

        Just a Few Thoughts:

        When it comes to animals no consent is needed. When we slaughter an animal for food we don’t ask for its consent. Animals are to be used but not abused.

        Beastility is raw lust with no claim being made for romance or love. There are homosexuals who are with a partner they claim to care for and truly love. But there is a whole other side to the gay life. Compared to heterosexuals there is a much larger percentage of men who cruise the bars and baths looking for “quickies” or one night stands. Some have had a hundred, two or three hundred, and more partners. Many of them never know their partner’s name. Thankfully, you may not be seeing this in God blessed Dominica. But in big North American cities where the laws against homosexuality have been lifted it is happening big time.

        Homosexuality has some things in common with beastility.

        Both acts are forbidden in the Bible.

        Both acts are contrary to nature.

        Neither acts create a family.

        Both acts have men claiming they were “born that way” or saying it is their “orientation”.

        Both acts have produced a subculture even if beastility is still underground in nations that have legalized homosexuality. There are illegal dealers in their shabby back alley shops selling both types of porn under the counter.

        Both types of people have those who are bi. There are men who swing back and forth from women to men. There are men who can swing back and forth from women to an animal. The same applies to women who go from men to women and women who go from men to an animal.

        Some believe once a person has crossed the line into the world of same sex relationships having broken one social taboo it is easier for them to commit any of the more scary sexual practices and even horrific crimes.

        Those who are trapped in this dark world of sexual perversion go from one new adventure to another looking for the ultimate trip. The good news is that God loves them. Christ died for them. They need deliverance and they CAN be set free though the power of the shed blood of Jesus Christ.

The was a revision of the bible from the old testament to the New Testament. half of the things that the bible teaches are no longer used in our modern day society. the bible is a good guide to our existence, but as we become more knowledgeable there will be need to question some of the writings. For example; we do not keep slaves anymore, we wear cloths of more than three different materials, we shave our hair, we eat shell fish, we do not make animal sacrifices etc.

        The things you mention in the last two lines of your comment belonged to the Old Testament law God gave Moses for the Nation of Israel. It ended at the cross when Christ as crucified.

        Some pastors in Dominica have not done a good job of teaching this to their congregations judging from the comments I read on DNO but it is elementary.         Those who advocate for homosexuality show a great lack of objectivity and logic. I find it almost impossible to reason with them.

        Years ago I had a friend who left his wife and two sons to live with a male bank manager in Toronto’s gay village. He was an educated medical professional with a job in a hospital. Chuck told me the scriptures that forbid homosexuality were not forbidding what we call homosexuality today but refer to something altogether different. It broke my heart to see him being swallowed up by the darkness and sliding into depravity.

        I tried to reason with Chuck from a Christian perspective but facts and reality meant nothing to him. Several years later he died with AIDS of a self inflicted gunshot wound. It was so sad.

        If you are involved in this destructive lifestyle I hope you will surrender to Christ. God will save you. Not only that but He will deliver and set you free.

        Denis: The rules you have referred to were part of a much larger law that God gave Moses. In the New Testament it is simply called “the law”.

        The law was given for a specified people known as the Nation of Israel. It was binding on those who were born into that nation and those who joined themselves to it.

        It was in force during a limited time period in their history: from when it was given to Moses on Mt. Sinai until Christ died on Mt. Calvary.

        This law contained many rules and regulations that don’t make sense to us today. But it was suited to the people in the time period for which it was intended. It was a “teaching tool”, rich in symbolism that pointed to better things to come.

        When Christ died on the cross this Old Testament law ended. A New era of faith began which includes both Jews and Gentiles. Please read John 19:30, Romans 10:4, Colossians 2:14-17.

        The law that included the rules forbidding the eating of shellfish and shrimp no longer exists. Please read the story in The Acts 10:9-16

        However, the moral commandments in the Old Testament law that reflect the holiness of God’s unchanging character are carried forward and are part of the New Testament. The New Testament also forbids homosexuality in Romans 1:24-28, 1 Corinthians 6:9,10, 1 Timothy 1:9,10, and Jude vs. 7.

        The New Testament is now for all people in every nation. The commandments and prohibitions in the New testament are mandatory and binding upon us all.

      If they don’t believe what the Bible says about homosexuality what parts of the Bible do they believe? 8-O How can they trust the other passages of scripture?

      If homosexuals and those who advocate for homosexuality believe the scriptures against homosexuality are ancient texts with no basis in science why would they believe any part of the Bible? How can they know which parts to believe?

      Do these people go to church? Are they members of a church? Do they receive communion and go through the outward acts of worship? :twisted: If so I wonder if their pastors, priests, or other church leaders know they don’t believe in the faith?

      In Canada we have churches that ordain homosexuals to the ministry. How do they deal with scriptures like Romans 1:24-28? Let me tell you how. Years ago these churches began to change. They moved away from a “literal interpretation” of the scriptures. They began to say it wasn’t necessary to believe that the Bible is inspired. Gradually they were preaching less and less from the Bible and talking more and more about philosophy and social action. Now anybody can be a member. They don’t require you to even believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God! These “churches” are very accepting of all alternative lifestyles. But in spite of their break-neck effort to please everybody and offend none these churches are not growing! In the big cities it’s not unusual for two of their congregations to amalgamate and sell one of the big buildings. It is often bought by a hand clapping, shouting, Bible thumping congregation that outgrew their last building. :lol:

      It is a sign of the times we live in. The Apostle Paul wrote: “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers having itching ears; And shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.” (2 Timothy 4:3,4) :cry:

      I encourage you to find a Bible believing church that preaches the old fashioned gospel: a church that teaches holiness of life and requires people to be “born again” before they can be members. Support that that church because it is the work of God. There your soul will be fed. :-P

    I agree gay people should be respected and treated as human beings. Only God judges and you have a right to do what you want as long as you do not infringe on the rights of others.

    Yes the Catholic church is for the humane treatment of everyone including gays and Lesbians it it against immoral acts: stealing, killing, adultery, fornication, childabuse, buggery……etc. The last i checked dominica was still a “christian” society so it is not going to be easy to force lifestyle on people.
    We all know there have been gay people in dominica who have been open and have held high posts. None of then have been arrested. If this is about repealing buggery laws its a waste of time cause the closet gays are there because they are not comfortable wit who they are

Some of them are married. This must be so painful for them. Leave them alone so that they can get on with their lives. There are closet gays suffering in households. Gays are like any citizen.         There are people who rape, commit incest, and people who have sex with animals.

        There are men who have sex with men. There are women who have sex with women.

        There are men who have more than one wife, not just two or three, but ten or twenty.

        God has given us a moral code to live by to save us from ourselves and prevent the total destruction of society in passages of scriptures like Romans 1:26,27, 1 Corinthians 6:9,10, and Galatians 5:19-25. Those who live by the Word of God have a better life and a higher level of mental health than those who live in rebellion against God.

        How can some of you be so foolish as to even think that a person’s sexual preference is their own business or that we should not “judge” them for practicing such perversions? Actually, we are not “judging” them. We are telling them what God (the judge) says so they can have a better life, and if they will trust the Lord Jesus they will be saved.

      The Roman Catholic Church is opposed to all these immoral practices at least officially.

      At the same time the R.C.C. is for the humane treatment of all people. Even law breakers should be treated humanely. The punishment of criminals should be humane.

      Even if homosexuality is decriminalized many gays will stay in the closet because they know what they do is sinful, shameful, and an abomination.

      What all homosexuals should know is that God loves them. On the cross Christ shed His blood and died to pay the debt for their sins. Please read Isaiah 53:5,6 with Romans 5:6-8. If they will believe this they will be saved! See John 3:16,17, 36. When God saves a man or woman he removes the guilt of heir sins according to Hebrews 8:12.     Very good article. Essentially the only main difference between Homosexuals, Bisexuals and Heterosexuals are the sex of the person(s) they sleep with. For the most part they are very much alike, hence the reason the live in society unknown to many. A random sampling of 59 serial killers in the US after 1060 was collected, and studied. Of these convicted murderers 39 were gay, 66%.     Homosexuality has existed in DOMINICA for ages. There were women living together whom I thought were sisters. Lo and behold – they were lovers!! They harmed no one nor did they wear a badge saying “I’m gay”. Just like I don’t wear a badge saying “I’m heterosexual”. Mum’s hairdresser was gay as is mine.-Lovely DOMINICANS!!! If they choose to tell the world it’s up to them. They have as much right as any of us. Even Pope Francis accepts that Gay people are not a ‘problem’ but no priest shoul be actively Homosexual. I would love to see a gay pride parade in DA. Also it’s the married men who hide behind marriage that we should protect children from. Not those who come out!!! Gay men are not the predators!!!         Fornicating hetersexuals and practicing homosexuals will burn in the same hell and spend eternity together in the same lake of fire unless they repent of their sins and receive Christ as their Saviour. (Romans 1:21-32) (1 Corinthians 6:9,10) (Acts 17:30) (St. John 1:11,12)

        Even those who have remained sexually pure have committed other sins. The Word of God says “…there is no difference: For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:22,23)

        God has provided salvation for all regardless of what sins they have committed. Jesus Himself said “For God so loved the WORLD, that WHOSOEVER believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved.” (John 3:16,17)

        God provided this salvation by sending His Son to Calvary’s cross to die as a substitute for ALL our sins. He raised Him from the dead to show that He had accepted that sacrifice as the payment in full for our salvation. The Apostle Paul wrote “… …Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures. (1 Corinthians 15:3,4)

        This sacrifice was so perfect it never had to be repeated. (Hebresws 10:10) It was so complete no other sacrifice was ever neceassary. Hebrews 10:12. On the cross moments before He expired Jesus He cried with a loud voice “It is finished.” (St. John 19:30) This meant the price was paid! We cannot earn salvation. It must be received as a gift. The Apostle Paul wrote “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8,9)

        It is all wrapped up in Jesus Christ the Son of God. We must believe and receive Him as our Saviour. It is written “…God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is IN his Son. He that HATH the Son HATH life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.” (1 John 5:11, 12) Look closely at this scripture. Note: “He that hath the Son HATH life.” The word HATH or HAS in our modern day English means you HAVE something NOW as a PRESENT possession!

        Jesus said “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will dine with him, and he with me.” (Revelation 3:20)

        Heterosexuals, lesbians, bisexuals, transexuals, and straights, the “whosoever” incudes YOU! God is not “homophobic”! He loves you enough to accept you as you are. But He loves you too much to leave you that way. He is able to deliver and set you free.     MiRiDom is doing very professional PR and no one is taking the time to respond appropriately. It is just a matter of time before they get what they want. A disruption in the economy, a close election, sanctions or anythings disruptive can make this blow away like the wind. Is this about sex or morality? Or, privacy versus human rights?       According to the Word of God the moral condition of the world will rapidly deteriate in the last days. It appears that those who are fighting for the decriminalization of homosexuality and the legalization of same sex marriages may eventually get what they want in many places. This will happen just as the sale of tobbaco and alcoholic products along with gambling are already legal almost world wide and prostitution is becoming legal in country after country. :twisted:

      Those of us who know the prophetical scriptures are encouraged by what is happening! According to the Bible things will get worse before they get better. Actually, things appear to be right on schedule! 8-O

      The Bible says “…in the last days perilous times shall come…” (2 Timothy 3:1) “…evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.” (2 Timothy 3:13) :evil:

      It says “…many shall follow their pernicious ways;…”(2 Peter 2:2)

      “And because iniquity shall abound the love of many shall wax cold.” (St. Matthew 24:12)

      Jesus Himself said conditions on earth would be like Sodom and Gomorrha before He returns. He said “…the same day Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.” (St. Luke 17:29,30) :(

      By being “the salt of the earth and the light of he world” as Christians are mandated to be in St. Matthew 5:13,14 we can prevent the corruption and dispel the darkness for a while. We can slow down the incoming tide of iniquity but we cannot prevent it. Does it discourage us as Christians to see satan willing a battle here and there? Are we overwhelmed by the advancing darkness? Absolutely not! It encourages us! What we are seeing is Bible prophecy being fulfilled! Fulfilled prophecies are like the finger prints of God all over the Bible. We have read the last chapter of the book and we know that we win! :lol:

      When things on earth cannot get any worse “…the Lord Jesus shal be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction…” (2 Thessalonians 1:7-9) In that glorious day “…at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, … and ever tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:11) :lol:

      Christians have something better to look forward to! :idea: “…we…look for a new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.” (2 Peter 3:13) :-D

      Of course there are many today who do not believe that Jesus Christ will return to receive His people to Himself, and punish the wicked. They :-P mock :-P us when we tell them that there is a new world coming. The Apostle Peter wrote “… there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after there own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming?…” (2 Peter 3:3,4) 8-O

      Anybody who attends a gay parade hoping to see some indication that homosexuality is a healthy alternative lifestyle will be disappointed. :cry:

      In most places a gay parade is called the GAY PRIDE PARADE. In the beginning of these parades curious non-judgmental people went to see what the homosexuals had to be PROUD of. Some of them thought they might see 8-O presentations representing the contributions made by gay people to the arts, and sciences, to education, politics, and the military.

      Instead they saw 8-O near naked men with only a loin cloth covering their privates, partially nude women embracing and fondling each other, men dressed in feathers, dykes and female impersonators. They saw a near naked man on his knees and a man standing over him dressed in leather with a whip in his hand. They saw a man dressed in feathers, fishnet stockings and high heels with a whip in his hand leading another man down the street on a leash. :roll: :evil:

      Not what you would want to take your children to :!:

      And the purpose of a gay parade is to convince us that homosexuality is normal? To sell the community on the idea that it is a healthy alternative lifestyle? To make us believe that it is on par with heterosexuality? :?:

      The parades are a demonstration of how out of proportion and exaggerated sexuality is to these people and a good indication that thy know nothing about true love, marriage, and family life.

      Nothing has done more to open people’s eyes to the abnormality and pathological nature of homosexuality than the gay parades.

      Imagine these guys are prepared to brush aside the biblical RULES of guidance from our GOD and creator in favor for the scientific “THEORIES” of MAN to justify their indiscretions. It’s one thing to believe and engage in any activity you so desire in the privacy of your own space (that’s your choice) but it becomes totally offensive when you decide to flamboyantly parade with such activities in the public where the majority of persons don’t subscribe to that belief especially in the sight of the impressionable minds of children

      I think that this is their point, you choose to try to trash their opinions in a high handed way that does not contribute to trying to understand the condition or contributing to a debate. MiRiDom may have a plausible point but you will never know if you do not contribute to a fruitful conversation.
      The interpretation of the bible has been proven wrong before which has given rise to a reinterpretation, eg. slavery.

        The slavery you refer to in the Old Testament was not the slavery you know about today.

        The slavery in Israel during Old Testament times was suitable for the people of that day because of social situations. It was a qualified slavery governed by certain laws. Nevertheless,
        the Old Testament law God gave Israel for that Nation which included the instructions regarding slavery ended when Christ died on the cross according to John 19:30, Romans 10:4, Colossians 2:14,15, etc.

        The Old Testament moral commandments which reflected the unchanging holiness of God’s character were carried forward (or repeated) in the New Testament. The New Testament also forbids and condemns homosexuality. Please read:

        1 Corinthians 6:9,10
        1 Timothy 1:9,10
        Jude vs.7

      Since when did Almighty God need scientists or sociologists to validate what He says :?:

      Jesus Christ prophesied His own death and told how He would die. He also said he would rise from the dead on the third day.

      When Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John wrote the reports of His birth, His miracles, and His resurrection in the first century A.D., and when St. Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 15 that Jesus was seen of over 500 people at one time after He rose most of the eye witnesses were still living
      and could have come forward and contradicted their claims. None ever did in spite of the fact that the Jewish authorities AND the Roman government would have DONE or GIVEN anything to stop the spread of Christianity :!:

      (In fact all anybody had to do to stop the spread of Christianity was to produce the crucified dead body of Jesus Christ!)

      It didn’t stop there :!:

      He claimed to be the ONLY way to heaven when He said “…I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man cometh unto the Father but by me.” (St. John 14:6)

      If you want scientific evidence for the validity of the Biblical accounts in the Old Testament Book of Genesis I recomend that you that you read
      THE SCIENCE OF GOD by Gerald Schroder, Ph.D., then GENESIS AND THE BIG BANG by the same author. Dr. Schroder is no Bible thumping evangelical preacher (like I am). He is a Jewish scientist with his Ph.D. from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T), in a white lab coat, whose work is held in high regard by his peers.

      There are many other such books. I’ll be happy to recommend them to anybody who cares enough to pursue this. I expect the problem with most DNO commentators who speak in a slanderous way about th Holy Scriptures is the few who are educated were educated in humanistic insitutions. They were pumped full of liberalism and scepticism and have never acquainted themselves with the other side of the issue. They simply live in a very small world in spite of their education. :cry:

      Dr. Francis A. Schaeffer, 1912 – 1984, was such a man. A university professor with an atheistic worldview, he found the courage to take a look at the other side. Schaeffer encountered Christ and became a fervant disciple of the Nazarene! :lol: He began writing in defence of the Bible and Christian morality. His books have been translated into more than 25 languages with more than 3 million in prnt. What I have on my library shelf are The Complete Works of Francis A. Schaeffer – A Christian Worldview in five volumns.

      Dr. and Mrs. Schaeffer founded a retreat and 8-O teaching centre called L’Abri Fellowship with branches in Switzerland, Holland, Sweden, and the USA.

      Until you have done the necessary research and given honest consideration to the claims of the Christian faith I am asking you and other
      commentators to refrain from mocking the Bible – especially the Genesis account of creation – and the claims of Christ. These things are dear to millions of Christians world wide. Many of our people have given their lives for the faith. :-|

      You should know – and DNO should know – these are not things we take lightly. Objective debate is educational and makes good reading. But silly and slanderous statements only show that the writer doesn’t have the facts on his/her side and is grasping at straws. While we pity the writers we find his/her statements offensive.

      “To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word it is because there is no light in them.” (Isaiah 8:20)

      You talk as if Christians are uneducated fools and believe the “ancient texts” because they don’t know any better. In many cases the opposite is true. In 2013 I received my Ph.D. in Biblical Studies. My thesis was

    Hmph… Why do you all want to live a life contrary to the one God intended for us! I hope you all keep in mind how God destroyed Sodom and Gomara for the same unatural behaviors that they seemed to enjoy. God will surely pour his wrath on the gays and lesbians and I say it with no remorse because you all are hardened and set in your ways that you refuse to acknowledge that it is wrong in the sight of God

        When any nation’s cup of iniquity is full and overflowing God may pour out His wrath upon it.

        Personally, I don’t think Dominica is there yet. There are many good people in Dominica. A significant number of people want what is righteous in the sight of God for the nation.

        Only fools make a mockery of the Word of God. It should be honored in the homes, churches, and schools of the nation. Its precepts are mandatory not optional. Nations that have disregarded the Bible and the commandments of God have not done well. It is wise to heed the warnings found in the scriptures.

        God has destroyed cities and whole territories because of homosexuality. When those who practiced this abomination perished those who advocated for their cause went down with them. The same punishment will eventually befall all those in Canada (my own country) and Dominica who commit – and those who condone – this perversion.
