NJAM calls  for a commission of inquiry into the Mehul Choski matter

Over the past six weeks the Dominican public has been intrigued by the mystery surrounding the arrival of Mr. Mehul Chinubhai Choksi in Dominica, including allegations of the involvement of the Government in cross border kidnapping, as well as rumors of complicity on the part of the leadership of the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force and the coast guard.

If anything, the curiosity has been heightened by the scanty, deliberately vague  and very unhelpful statements by the Government, and the decision by the police to be uncharacteristically silent on a matter of public interest.  And one may add, the interesting but unexplained  coincidence of an aircraft at Douglas-Charles that was rumored to have arrived here for the sole purpose of whisking Mr. Choksi to India.

The National Joint Action Movement (NJAM) has taken note of the numerous  pronouncements on the matter that have been made by Prime Minister Gaston Browne of Antigua and Barbuda, a letter dated 25th May  2021 and signed by Honourable Rayburn  Blackmore declaring Mr. Choksi to be a prohibited immigrant and Mr. Choksi claim that he was kidnapped, tortured, and brought to Dominica against his will.  Moreover, NJAM is mindful of the recent legal maneuvering in the courts and what was clearly an unambiguous reluctance on the part of local prosecutors to enable Mr. Choksi to depart to Antigua.

In a previous statement. NJAM deplored the denial of Mr. Choksi’s right to private medical consultation. NJAM therefore welcomes the decision to allow Mr. Choksi to travel to Antigua for medical treatment that may not be available in Dominica; although the Government claims that the Dominica Chinese Friendship Hospital is a state-of-the-art facility. But this course of action has not been accompanied by an explanation of the issues that are of paramount importance to this nation namely; what were the circumstances which culminated in Mr. Choksi’s arrival in Dominica and which individuals, or organizations were complicit.

NJAM believes that this Mehul Choksi affair is a matter of public interest for which answers must be provided to  key questions.  Failure to do this in a very timely manner would be  contrary to the norms in  a democratic society where Government is required to operate with transparency and accountability. NJAM therefore calls for the  immediate establishment of an independent commission of inquiry to undertake a full investigation into the events surrounding the arrival of Mehul Chinubhai Choksi in Dominica during the latter half of May 2021; and a detailed account of the  roles played by any Dominican individuals or organizations.

Under the Commission of Inquiry Act the President of Dominica may issue a commission into any matter in which an inquiry would be for the public welfare or into the conduct of any department of the public service.  In our view the experiences with the Choksi case makes such a course of action mandatory if Dominica is to retain its image as a responsible democracy that is governed by the rule of law.

Kid On The Block, I never said that money wasn’t important because every kindergarten kid knows that it is. However, for you it is what your focus is on. You believe that other people’s views are directed by their desire to grab more and more money. You are dead wrong. What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and to lose his humanity and his soul? I left Dominca not for money or a lack of money but I wanted to keep my family unit together and succeeded in doing that. We have better lives than we could have in Dominca especially since 2004. I realized also that the Dominican economy was going to be in a bad place because the mono-culture reliance on agriculture was going to crash with reality of the WTO. Here you go again impugning improper motives, believing that others are as obsessed as you with money, money. Family is very important, pal. Choksi is being sent to Antigua, why? America has the health care I need.

@Lin clown, when someone pays taxes in Dominca and also pays utility bills there also, isn’t that contributing to the coffers and helping development? Do you understand these complex issues? or as far as you are concerned one has got to physically be there in the”guyeh” to be considered contributing to development. Chew on that Lin.

That is it KID,these guys think we don’t know what is happening in Dominica.Jonathan Younglow St.Jean an agriculturist, left Dominica more than 30yrs ago. After spend his productive years in the development of a foreign country,he is now trying to tell us what to and not do.

Lin clown, I’m not in a foreign country, pal. I’m a bona fide American. You don’t even know that there is such a thing as dual citizenship. I’m contributing to the development of both my countries. You are of the view that the only way one can contribute is to physically be there, oh ye of a simple mind. I was smart enough to use my wisdom and intuition to realize that agriculture in Dominica wasn’t going to be anything other than a “shadel mui” self sufficiency joke because the British housewives were no longer willing to buy our bananas. Our government was not forward looking enough to put in place the things to propell agriculture to the level reguired, so I left. Besides the two crops which Geest helped Dominca break into the international market and lime before that, what other crop have we succeeded in penetrating the international market with. All we do is talk without prioritizing and taking concrete actions to get it done. I left in time, Lin.

“In our view the experiences with the Choksi case makes such a course of action mandatory if Dominica is to retain its image as a responsible democracy that is governed by the rule of law.”
Sadly, Dominica lost this image a long time ago with the association of Dominica and the sale of Dominica passports to criminals, by the current Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit led Dominica Labour Party! In Dominica, the rule of law has long been replaced by the will of the PM! The State has failed! Dominica is now a failed State where “no law and no constitution” rule.

  5. July 19, 2021

More talk talk talk. In the mean time Skerrit (Dominica ) goes untouched. No crane, No Backo, No talk talk talk can grade this Skerrit (Dominica) out. Where ever and who ever in Benin, Malta, Morocco, Haiti etc. touched him he was well touched. But unfortunately nothing is forever.

I commend NJAM for calling for an inquiry into the Choksi matter. However, we will have to wait till the cows come home because I know that the track record of this regime is not one of transparency and rule of law but of rogue- ish -ness. Institutions no longer function like they used to and the apple cart has been overturned by the bulls running through the china shop. The China model is very much alive and well in the Caribbean region not only Dominca. However, we and history will not forget this period of our lives and the glaring nightmares attendant to this period of our development. Our grandchildren must be told because even the tallest mountains weep for Dominca as it meanders in the wilderness led by Skerritt and Angelo.

Boy, boy, boy, NJAM get a life! Who are these useless bigots. Why don’t you volunteer your time to the home for the aged, or be a mentor to the many mental deranged walking the streets with hopelessness seeking answers. Some of you want answers as long as it is politically motivated, what a bag of worms NJAM is!

      @Thanks
No he/she or NJAM does not have to do any voluntary work.. You must go and do such, since NJAM is writing and calling for what we would see in Dominica prior to 2004 when liar Skerrit came in and failed this country. Are you embarrassed because of the characters who were involved????

  8. July 19, 2021

Dominica p.m will soon tell you all go to hell..
His a very very coward bad freightened man..can’t walk down the road with a host of security…a stupid leader is not a wreckless man but a wreckmore man…go to hell..

I want ALLLLL the facts! Bring everybody out. I thought Scotland Yard was here investigating. what is the report. So between the Slobby matter and Mehul Choksi, the Police force is a real real tie up there in 2021. Thats what happens when your police force doesnt follow the laws they swear to protect. What we have here is another defense force like how Patrick John had. a gang of henchmen in uniform.

The Commission of Enquiry is a good call, and this would be obtained in a real country, that is not as corrupt as Dominica. Remember from 2004 what we have seen in Dominica is a progressively decaying society, where some people deliberately flout the law with impunity.
What i do know is that with the plethora of information re the Chuksi matter, everyone above age 5 years in Dominica, Antigua and India, know exactly what happened to Choksi and who were the characters involved.
    A Brown Paperbag????
    A liar in Chief???
    A corrupt Indian????.

  13. KID ON THE BLOCK

But why is Choski so much of great interest and importance to some groups or individuals in Dominica? Is it because THEY hear he has money?

    • Jonathan Y St Jean
      July 20, 2021

Kid On The Block, you seem to be obsessed about money. Looks like that is what drives you, well others don’t live there lives focused as much as you on money. Many people, me included, live with and for principles. There are also principles dealing with money, how to obtain it, how to invest it, how to manage it. Is it the money centered focus why some people can’t see the right and wrong in issues of law and the constitution, and humanity so they support the party in power no matter what they do?

      • KID ON THE BLOCK
        July 20, 2021

        Boss, question to you.
Why did you leave Dominica? What was the your motive? First thing on your mind was money. Now you damn well know who is obsessed about money. Think it over, beginning with yourself and your leader.

          July 20, 2021

@Kid On The Block, your idol and “do no wrong” leader had his children born in America rather than in Dominca, where he’s the prime minister and tells the world how well Dominca is doing, I’m sure his motive isn’t only about money. Ask him about the $1.2 billion he promised to give account for. I know you care a lot about money.

No kid its because of the involvement of the liar, the paperbag and the Indian.

    • lol
      July 20, 2021

It is because he is an indian man who recieved Antiguan citizenship, making him a CARICOM citizen through the CBI program of Antigua (similar to Dominicas). that man was (allegedly) mugged, kidnapped, tortured, and trafficked illegally into Dominica and met by the top brass of our police force before the boat had even landed. Which suggests that the police and the high up knew of his arrival and where he would land. He was then taken to the police station and denied any human right for contact with an attorney. He didnt complete any immigration forms, and i bet the police never asked for his passport. the intention was to snuggle him onto an Indian jetplane by force and have him flown to India to answer ALLEGATIONS of theft. The involvement of Dominica’s government and police force is of the highest importance in this international crime. We do not want his money. As far as we know most of his assets have been seized and businesses halted. Maybe money is your weakness, but not for many of us.

Sorry to throw icy water on the call for a commission of inquiry into this malevolent incident involving Mr. Mehul Choksi. Nothing will come of it. The courts are too corrupt, civil society is too afraid and the citizenry too apathetic.

However, something has to give as the whole county will implode as there’s a limit to how much people can take. Even a timid cat will lash out at its tormentor when the abuse is too much. I’m one who believes in Karma and Karma is a B-word.
