REDjet gets go-ahead in five more Caribbean countries

Five more Caribbean nations have given permission for low-cost carrier REDjet to operate flights from their countries.

This was revealed by REDjet chief executive Ian Burns at a news conference yesterday at the Crowne Plaza, Port-of-Spain.

The conference was held to launch the partnership between the airline and shipping company Laparkan Trinidad Ltd. Laparkan will now be responsible for the sale and distribution of REDjet tickets to travel agencies in T&T. St Kitts, Grenada, St Lucia, Antigua and St Maarten have been added to the four countries REDjet currently has permission to operate in.

What happen to Dominica? Can someone tell me? It’s time we open our eyes and be a better nation. At least as good as we use to be before this government got into office. Every other island is moving foward but we are moving back. What’s wrong with us. Are we just beeing vindictive to ourselves?

Ppl with no clue as to what it takes to have an international airport. Where are they going to have this aiport? Dominicans think they are smarter than the Prime Minister. You all are standing on the outside just giving stupid comments. Night landing is one step to better things. Redjet not coming to DA is not a problem. American Eagle gets there if Redjet wanted to come the would.Too many assumptions ppl without fact or even having knowledge on the issu @ hand.

because skerrit is prime minister makes him smarter than you not me. i am smart enough to know that if the labour party had continued what the previous government had started by now we would have been accepting red jet.

Red jet and american eagle are different DUMB DUMB eagle is a plane whers as red jet is a jet with more powerful engines that need a longer air strip. But i guess you wouldn’t know that because according to you the Prime minister is smarter than you.

You people still don’t get it do you? the project that could have singly brought some economic respectability to dominica was the international airport but according to you the smarter than everybody prime minister of yours preferred to waste money on melleville hall. But then again that wouldn’t make sense to you because you are not the prime minister so you are not smart

I knew the night landing vision from our gov was outdated and a waste of time in 21st century. Now i hope its becoming obvious to other Dominicans.

Dominica setback is lack of vision, both from the leaders and the people.

The word backward comes to mind….

I don’t know why you are getting thumbs down? I keep telling these people with no risks comes no reward!

Get investors form our favorite countries, CHINA, VENEZUELA… if these countries are so interested in investing in Dominica ( state house, Alba house, roads, Chinese restaurants), then have them build an airport.

But the narrow- minded people keep saying how will it be sustained.?
Market Dominica- we are always seeing articles where Domibica is the most eco- friendly, romantic destination). Have the tourism dept go out and work for the country…

Investors will come if there is a means of attracting business. FOR TOO LONG WE IN DOMINICA THINK IN REVERSE. We want the investors to come then we will build an airport. Guess what Dominica will be the archaic Island in the Caribbean and countries like SvG will keep saying dont develop yourself while they leave us behind!

Ralph, the PM of St. Vincent supported Roosie dem claim for the 2000 election that D/a does not need an Int’l airport, they won, which I don’t mind. Now he is building one, and will be adding Red Jet as soon as his Int’l airport is finished.

    Thanks Ralph.

It’s very unfortunate that Dominica is not on that list. I guess at the moment we are unable to attract Redjet as a result of the present facilities, but I am sure something is being worked out.

I am happy SXM is on but D/CA should be on too,so I would take red jet to come D/CA. Would be much cheaper for me than LIAT

      October 14, 2011

You are not obliged to use LIAT from SMX to DOM. You can travel on BVI Air instead (direct flight).

Any lock for Dominica? Since Dominica is bigger than St Lucia, St. Kitts, St Marteen, Grenada, and Antigua I thought Dominica was in a position to attract REDjet since we just spent millions on our airport and we have a RED government, I cannot believe we were not able to get RED…Jet to come in.

Although Dominica is bigger than the countries mentioned. The run way is too small for the plane also to short . When your government was renovating the air port instead of making an international air port they didnt consider to fix and expand the bloody run way to accomodate such planes. Dominica must always be the country bookie country always behind ,and they want to make this a tourist destination? we cannot even accomplish getting an air line to make flying easier and affordable for its nationals. Go ahead and continue to allow this Government to bogga you all.

Just a FYI whomever you are! Dominica is bigger ‘en masse’ but most of DOMINICA’S land is on mountain sides. Additionally population- wise these countries have more people hence they are a more viable destination.

Thirdly, they all have runways that can accommodate large passenger aircrafts safely.

So even if Dominica is the largest Windward Island, it is disadvantaged because of the above mentioned factors.

Options for the other Islands. Not for Dominica. We are stuck with LIAT. WEith all the talk about night landing for Melville Hall, REDJET does not even have Dominica on its regular daytime schedule. What were the millions of Dollars spent at Melville for?

      • iwannabeapilot
        October 16, 2011

        bribery.

        Need I say more?
