All shall eat…Nowhere near the Promised Land

Dominica News Online

Empty-hollow-overkill, rhetoric, unsubstantiated innuendo, mischief, misdirection, deflection, shock and awe.

These words effectively define the art of communication DLP style, post December 18th 2009.

Unlike the flowery courtship lyrics used on the hustings to flirt with and ‘sweet talk’ the voters, the language of this Administration has soured over the last fourteen months as one by one the members lose their composure and reveal themselves to the populace as arrogant, incompetent, contemptuous opportunists.

With little or no successes to buoy them through the rough patches, this unimpressive Administration’s almost legendary failings are dragging them below the acceptable popularity index and is causing many diehard supporters to hide their heads in shame.

Is this what replaced the lion of DLP politics Rosie Douglas?

Even when hobbled and bleeding, his euphemisms lifted the listener and sent most scurrying for their dictionaries.

The lack of class displayed by the current Minister of Health is an indelible embarrassment on the national memory, as is the thuggish antics of Reginald Austrie in the House, the comic incendiary explosiveness of the Minister of Education and the forever ‘off the handle’ churlish attitude of the Prime Minister .

Charles Savarin’s handling of Jerry Brisbane on air for everyone to see was a display of grandiose perceived power that has never been effectively dealt with and has scarred the Skerrit administration possibly for life.

The appointments of under-qualified party hacks to State Boards only underscores the lack of professionalism in the hiring practices of this Government and goes to the heart of its incompetence.

It was never about Dominica.

It was packaged and sold to us as that, with a list of reasons that demonized the last Administration out of Office, but only so that the current group could enjoy the spoils.

Like many of my Freedom Party friends who still support the Dominica Labour Party, we are only in this pappyshow with one toe left, waiting for the last straw or for a better offer, because what we got into bed with under Rosie in 2000 is not who we woke up with on December 19th 2009.

Worse, it wasn’t just a one night stand, and we have to look at that line up day in and day out for at least another four more years barring some sort of miracle.

As it stands, the Public Sector workers are unhappy, the Private Sector is hurting, the poor are suffering and even the protective services are ready to rumble whenever the call for revolution is made, and all we’re still hearing is “Father Skerrit” from Petter St. Jean.

Seriously?

This Government does not appear to have any answers to the problems that plague our country and no one seems to be taking the Prime Minister’s explanations and platitudes seriously anymore.

Someone asked me in council if given the opportunity to advise the Prime Minister on a way forward what would I suggest, and for the first time I found myself completely stumped; I mean, what do you do, what do you say, when you realize that your Government’s best interest and your country’s best interest are  mutually exclusive properties?

Regardless of the talk, spin, rewrite, attack, defend, whatever, the unadulterated, cold-water-in-your-face, unvarnished truth is that this Government is perilously close to having failed in Office and even their own supporters have no idea how to defend them now.

It seems that they have found themselves completely up a river without a paddle and their major weapon has run out of steam.

Tony Astaphan, this is not about Eddo and the UWP anymore…

We are standing firm with our Prime Minister and the Dominica labour party. To all those who say the labour party is lossing power. go to the constituency and find out yourselves. Do a survey and lets see.

Even if a new party was to emerge soon, which is a reality, yes there is a new party in the marking but dominica are not stupid look at the people forming the new party, the ones who were once part of the DLP team and because they didnt get wat they wanted they decided to live and is now critizing the government.

My question is when you the sore grapes were part and parcel of the DLP wasn’t there any fault?

Why didnt you live before your wish wasn’t granted?

We are not stupid. we all no the truth.

    February 22, 2011

SOME ARE EATING ALL !!!! SOME ARE ENRICHING themselves BIG TIME, while the majority are getting POORER and POORER. The RURAL communities are BAWLING. Agriculture is on the BACK BURNER and declining. Just check our FOOD IMPORTS. Roseau is SWAMPED by Chinese businesses, while local Dominican businesses are slowly closing down. Now even when Dominica borrows money from China, it is Chinese construction Companies which are given the projects. Most of the money from the loan Dominicans have to pay back is REPATRIATED back to China.

SOME AR EATING ALL, ALL, ALL. Dominicans are becoming 3 CLASS citizens in their own land. Before one expresses concerns or hold a different opinion as relates to how the country is governed, or speaks out against illegalities or corruption in ‘HIGH PLACES’, he or she is demonised, ostracised, ridiculed. The CONSTITUTION, the Laws of our LAND are being disrespected daily. The ELITE class is WELL PROTECTED. What about the VOICELESS, the MARGINALISED, THE POOR? They may get some CRUMBS, or NOTHING. They go EMPTY HANDED. Dominicans know it. Dominicans are FEELING IT, SOME ARE EATING ALL, ALL, ALL Let’s be frank. You all cannot DENY THOSE FACTS. The TRUTH is a stubborn thing to admit. Some Dominicans REFUSE to be SET FREE by the TRUTH. TIME WILL TELL.

    February 21, 2011

it is utterly repulsive to see that there is still alot of bashment going towards the labour party.it is not because of them that the country isn’t exceeding at its best, its the constant hatred and battering that holds back this country all this negativity needs to end cause we dominicans too like to thrive on what else can be done.I believe you can give dominica heaven and people will still seek to find faults in it,in order for development to take place money must be spent in order to make money, change cannot come suddenly, rome was not built in one day and the uwp must understand that because they keep pointin out the dlp mistakes but they do not point out theres
it is time to unite as a country put all differences aside and stick to matters that really are of concern

    February 21, 2011

I fail to see not even one shred of truth in the above statement. The labour government is not perfect but it is by far the best government Dominica has ever had. Dominica continue to make progress under this administration. Dominicans who have eyes will see and acknowledge progress. The blind and biased ones will continue to critisize. Constuctive criticism is good because there is always room for improvement but the above article is totally biased. And while we are at it I would also like to add that Jerry Brisbane was out of line as he still is now. Just because you disagree with a decision that the gorvernment makes does not mean you are right.
You made a lot of claims please back them up with facts.

You said “Someone asked me in council if given the opportunity to advise the Prime Minister on a way forward what would I suggest, and for the first time I found myself completely stumped; I mean, what do you do, what do you say, when you realize that your Government’s best interest and your country’s best interest are mutually exclusive properties?”

You sure know what to say when you want to criticize but if given the opportunity to advice on a better way forward then you are stumped. I would assume that as a responsible Dominican like you would want us to believe then you would advise the PM to put the country interest first. if you are honest in what you are saying you would give the PM alternatives, tell him how to do it better. Not just criticize.

You wrote an entire article but not one recommendation. You sound like a labourite that did not get what you wanted. You people need to just shout up.

      February 22, 2011

Very good observation. This is what I often say and this is what I noticed in this piece. These guys always criticize but are never able to say how things should be done differently. Men, if you are the advisers of then UWP, you are the reason for their demise and as the PM said if you do not change direction you will be in the political wilderness for a very long time.I for one won’t follow any group just because they point out want is wrong with your opponent. They need to tell me how will they do things differently.
If you are not going to do the west coast road as it is done now, what would you do?
If you are not going to build houses for the poor, what would you do?
If you are not going to send multitudes abroard to study, what would you do?
If you are not going to help local students get to various academic institutions on island, what would you do?

If you are not going to upgrade the melvillehall airport and the road leading to it what would you do?
And you know all the rest.
As I was listing a few of the governments achievements I just realised if this is failure, I hope I’ll be a failure.

Amen to the truth, for only the truth will set Dominicans free. I call it the gospel of the truth to the labourites who are blind and lost. Undoubtedly, there are those who may see it as an attack on the current administration. But in the sight of God, they know that the article rings a bell that will live to haunt them in the future. With all what is taking place in the world today, it’s rather sad that our little island nation continues to support corruption, compounded with arrogance by its leaders, and it’s Okay. The few who dare to complain, are accused of not being patriotic. I firmly believe that one day, Skerrit and his associates will pay for their crimes just as those before them. And for the supporters who think that their leaders do no wrong because they profit from their evil deeds, will surely pay a hefty price. Lougaoo will stand for the truth in the woods of Tete’ Morne while he prays for a change in his beloved land.

The Freedom party was truly the best Government to ever run the affairs of the Commonwealth of Dominica.
The truth is you don’t know what you have untill you loss it.
However we still have the power to vote Freedom again into Office. The Freedom party was the best Political party,The best Political Party there is today and will be the best Political there will ever be in Dominica.
    Why?
Well the Freedom party stand for Justice and always put people before Power, pride and politics.

The UWP kill Dominica and this current Labour Party is hosting the funeral and on its way to do the burial.
We need to come together and forget about the threats of Freedom want to join UWP.
The Freedom party is an independent party and is willing and ready to form the next Government to bring Democracy back and Freedom of speech back to our sweet Dominica.
    VOTE FREEDOM

    • NONSENSE
      February 21, 2011

I was a strong freedomite in mamo days but to be honest with you freedom never helped anybody in my community. Nobody got help with a job or their home. The elderly and poor remained poor. Their social status did not improve. Freedom was for the bourgeois and their children like Brian Alleyne. How many kids of poor families got scholarships to study in freedom time??? U had to have surname!!! And we NEVER saw mamo come by to visit. Dont even talk about huggin poor people. She was unreachable. So I switched to Labour and I can see the poor elderly people being taken care of, their homes being fixed. And that makes me happy.

    • hmmm
      February 21, 2011

Do you know your history???? In the early days it was Labour … 10 to 1 is murder. The whole country was Labour and only the Soufriere consistuency was DUPP (Dominica United Peoples Party). No party is indispensible. Freedom evolved when the Freedom Fighters joined with the DUPP Leader at that time -Mr Moise. So what I amsaying is that people change and so persons do vote who they want. Do you remember that Judiana Henderson won Grandbay constituency on a Freedom ticket . So when one says that Freedomites voted the DLP, I wonder….

Back to the first point I made. Let the country takes its course … We are democratice.. Aren’t we …? we can still vote and pray that we will continue to vote.. so Dominicans (majority) will vote whatever party they want at General Election,

Reminder that the next one will be in 2014 so the parties should build their parties and put alternative plans and actions on the Table. Voting will be in 2014 so the Opposition and the other new party(s) do what you are supposed to do to bring yourself forward.

Another reminder .. Time really runs quickly…

Of course the Freedom Party was best. Best at preventing qualified Dominicans from getting overseas jobs that they were qualified for and had in fact been accepted for but blocked by the most wonderful lady who ever lived. Best at blocking scholarships until one international agency had to pull its scholarchip scheme from Dominica. Best at telling you like it is ‘I will take care of those who voted for me’, but left the Scotts Head/Soufriere road almost impassible. O yes. Best at taking care of certain family names. Best at spending all the Independence package she received from England. Best at utilizing all the Hurricane David Relief Funds, and when it finish Best at telling the world that we will go into Marijuana. Pleanty to be said but let it rest. No doubt about it, the Freedom Party was the best.

Carbon sounds more like UWP, Bosso should retire and they should regroup and change direction STOP BEING THE UWP BOOM BOOM FLY FOR GOODNESS SAKE! I feel you bro because these are the concerns I have and whenever I try to call it as I see it, they call me all kinds of names. I have always been a proud labourite but I just cannot support what Mr Skerrit and others have turned the DLP into today. This DLP administration is copletely different from the DLP that inspired us in the 80’s. The DLP of Rosie and Mike Douglas made fighting for the poor their goal. They were so committed to that cause that Rosie would take from his own pocket to help the poor. Today we have a DLP that is just using the poor and the good platform of the DLP to get rich overnight. The big question is, are these guys really labourites? Since when Charles Savrin is a labourite? Isn’t this the same gentleman that did all in his power to keep Rosie down and totally destroy the DLP? Yet, this is the man dressed in red and directing the affairs of the DLP. What about the PM since when he became a DLP? This man grew up in the home of a poto freedom and was a key member of the YFM. Rosie used him in the 2000 elections just to win the seat and did not even intend to make him a minister. In fact he was only made minister after he and Savrin gave Rosie hell. No one in Vielle case hated DLP as Skerrit. What about Charles Maynard and the other big boys that are leading the party? Are they labourites? These guys who are now running the party are nothing but a set of greedy oppotunists that are just using the platform of the DLP to promote themselves and become rich overnight. They stand very far from the core vision of the DLP and if we are not careful, they will bring down the DLP to the point of no return.
