Discipline absent in WI cricket team

By Pastor Rawls Pacquette

Praise the Lord.

Without  discipline West Indies cricket can never survive. First  of all, just because you are the best batsman doesn’t mean you have to be the captain. There are born leaders and there are leaders. Chris Gayle  is  a great talent but lacks  discipline as a leader. Then why aren’t the West Indies  selectors taking charge?

Why is the captain’s  hair  plaited when he is representing the West Indies? Victor Eddy was one of the best young  players in the 70s and 80s, but because he  had locks he was never considered  a test  prospect. You can never  play baseball  for the Yankees  with  long hair, ear rings or locks; discipline has to start at the top and don’t tell me this is not the USA; then why do cricketers like to  imitate  Americans? (IT’S ALL ABOUT THE GREEN, MONEY. THEY HAVE NO PRIDE ANYMORE).

Gayle  should  think of  batting at  no. 3 or 4 so he  can have  a better look at how things  are going when the West Indies are  struggling. What is the sense of  opening the  batting and  scoring  30 runs in three overs and getting out then start  criticizing  the other players? The selectors  must  give the captaincy  to Sammy or Bravo, then Gayle might become a better batsman, and this might help West Indies cricket.

The ICC should also take a good look at  test cricket. Why  are countries  like Bangladesh playing test cricket? In the 1970s, 80s and 90s, any second 11 team  the  West Indies selected could  wipe out the field with Bangladesh; now they beat the West Indies for their first  Tst  series win.(what a shame)

Zimbabwe  just beat India  a few  hours ago. They are not a more talented  team than the  West Indies, but they are  more disciplined than the  West  Indies team. The  problem  starts with the  biased  selectors  who are not  selecting  players from the  small islands  with   talent. Take a look at this young  player  from  Anguilla, Chesney Hughes,  who is playing in England  for  Derbyshire against  Gloucestershire. In the first inning  he scored 118, in the second  he came on when his  team was in trouble (down four wickets for fifteen)  and he scored 75 out of a score of 166.

These are the kinds of  batsmen that West  Indies  cricket needs – batsmen with discipline, patient, etc. The selectors should select this young  player before  it’s too late, and don’t say he has no  experience. There are players who have played  for the West Indies with no experience and still perform.

God  Bless.

The players should definitley start being held accountable for their actions, behaviors and performances. The selectors should start paying a little more attention to the team’s image….I believed that a group of well disciplined average players who respect the game, the supporters and themselves will be more successful that a bunch of pompous self serving great players.

A system of bonuses and performance incentives must be established….if taking a few $$ from them will make thenm buckle down and play the game like they should with a little more pride and passion, then it should be implemented.

Oh…BTW…I do not agree with the writers view about the looks, in particular the hair of Gayle…That statement tells me a little more about the dear pastor and his disdain for people with dreadlocks….Pastor please do not judge a man by his looks, color of his skin……but by the content of his character….although I agree that the team on a whole needs to be a little more disciplined, Gayles look should have been left out of this peice

Discipline and Coaching does not seem to be a part of the West Indies cricket formula. These players displayed a serious lack of fundamentals in all aspects of the game. Benn in particular has no idea how to bat correctly, standing in place flailing at balls outside the off stumps or attempting hook shots without first moving towards the offside to create more space for the shot. Also, what’s with taking the first run slow and then risking run out to take the second. Its common sense that it should be the other way around. Fundamentals Fundamentals!!!!!

Why are so many of the our players wearing heavy gold chains . ‘Should be worn after the game. Does the chain impede fielding?.

Pastor you seem to be a passionate supporter of West Indies cricket and an avid cricket fan on a whole but some of your claims are ill thought out and radical. Let us look at the captaincy of the West Indies cricket over the past decade. There have been eight Windies captains over the years, all of them incurred substantial losses with wins few and far in between. To people like you pastor I say that changing captains will hardly solve your problem in the short or long run. There has been a systematic failure of the West Indies cricket team for many years, Unless the entire system is overhauled then problems like lack of practice, ill-prepared players, unjustified selections and poor performances will continue to persist.

Secondly Gayle’s plaits have nothing to do with West Indies disciple. The man has the right to wear his hair in any many desired. Everybody can’t be bald-head or neatly trimmed to your whims and fancies. As I stated before disciplinary problems are only a product of the ineffective administration of West Indies cricket.

As soon as people realize that the pretentiously unrelated problems of West Indies cricket are all correlated to the West Indies Cricket Board and its administration then and only then can West Indies cricket move forward. Captaincy issues and embarrassing losses are all drops in the ocean.

The pastor is making a point about standards and not necessarily attackng locks or what have you.

It\s good that it is now evident the problem facing the west indies team. the team needs a complete overhaul, and discipline starts from the top. so if the cricket board does not demand it, why should the players try to display it?
Some recommendations for the west indies team:

    1. a curfew before games
2.no drinkin of alcoholic drinks while on tours
3.no bringing in of women picked up at bars and discos or on the streets to hotel rooms.
    4. 6 month contract to be renewed based on performance
    5. intensive training with US baseball coach

These guys have to be reminded that they are ambassadors of the entire west indies, and not ‘big men’ playing cricket having fun, free flights, top hotel accommodations etc.

They are on OUR time, we are not on theirs. They are paid to do a job, should get it done properly, and WORK according to OUR rules. West Indies cricket is not Coney Island for clowns, nor is it a vacation party cruise. It’s a JOB.

The history of cricket is based on the english culture and for years the players would reflect that discipline, but if a white man had platted hair or locks it would not be as noticeable as ablack man. but you see we were told to cut our hair as young men because that is the style. othere just seem to differ on what some hold as tradition.

What the hell the man hair have to do with Discipline? Pastor allu and allu white wash society and ideology. What the hell the man hair have to do with his discipline. Talk about the person character and his attitude…not his damn hair. Some of allu that does want to act all holier than though, and as if you better than everyone else who ever made error in their life. Pastor you never failed? The man still young, he will learn. Is some of our so called religious leaders and community leaders that have society like that. Cause where there is room for improvement and where there is an obvious cry for help, you all attack and criticize and condemn. Why not offer sound advice, why not search for alternative means instead of outright trashing the man and his looks. Tell me where in the bible it say that for a man to be disciplined his hair has to cut, or he cannot have locks. Allu pastor downpressors making society on a whole ugly based on your antics. Shame on your first pastor, not Chris Gayle!

This just goes to show the level of Hypocrays we live in. Having plaits or locks says nothing about your discipline. As a pastor you should learn not to Judge a book by it’s cover. Matter of fact you should not Judge period, Judgement is reserved for the one above.

interseting ,but we should also remember that if these same players are being paid on merit then the team will definitely play better….Old Method is selected=$5000 U.S , New proposed method is selected=$1000 U.S plus additional for good plays, runs scored, catches taken ,wickets taken etc etc…

I think that is the only solution.

currently west Indies is the worst performing team yet highest paid……CRAP CRAP CRAP!!

Very true. I keep saying they should be paid based on performance. Then they will actually try to play like we paying them to!!
