I took this photo at the (Melville Hall) airport.
Mr. Eagle just pull up, chilling and overlooking the operation as passengers arrived. It’s the first time a bird like this has been seen on the island. It looks like a North American eagle so I took this just for DNO research and post.

i agree with A girl
The bird was correctly identified as an osprey, irrespective of some of the subsquent comments posted by the non-believers, some of who thought that the photo was pulled off the net, an other such unfortunate comments. As was noted on this page, those birds (like the “begas”, gli-gli and many other species) migrate to Dominica from North America, and we find them here twice a year. And for the non-believers, and other who may be interested, about 2/3 of the number of species of birds that have been documented for Dominica are migrants. The Forestry Division has a book on Dominica’s Birds for sale. I have a copy!!!!
what a lovely bird ! i cant say its mischivous at all. but anyway looks are desciving
Dawn Reid? You lying! DA is known for its greenery; no sign of a leaf? This is a copy and paste off the internet. I can tell a genuine photo when I see one. That leafless tree seems to have been up in the sky. You did not even capture a mountain in the background?
come to the airport u will see if ur self or maybe if u had check marpin news u would have seen it on the same branch
well now i know dominica have some jack….. i saw that bird yesterday at the airport so it is there for real. and because of the angle jack… u will not see green or how much the pic was zoom for good photo. and u call urself dominican calling de man a lier jack…
This is a true photograph of the osprey bird. if you copy the link below and paste it in the address bar you will see the same bird.

One of the largest birds of prey in North America, the Osprey eats almost exclusively fish. It is one of the most widespread birds in the world, found on all continents except Antarctica.
I saw this bird in Canefield once I thought to my self it looks like a hawk or an eagle I asked my uncle and he said it was an Osprey There was another bird I saw once up Trafalgar that I never saw anywhere else. It was a black bird with red green and yellow stripes on its feather It almost looked like Liberating colours. Real pretty I still don’t know the name of this one. If I see it again ill snap a pic.
since last week i see that story on marpin….
they had a forestry guy saying its an osprey..
and they have a few that come to the island round this time of year…..
Am baffled did u not see this “Photographers – novice, amateur or professional – in Dominica are asked to submit photos, photographer credit and caption to [email protected] for consideration for the Photo of the Day feature, daily on dominicanewsonline.com or news.dm.

this is not a Dno story therefore
Gosh. What will people like you come up with next??? Get a damn life! The bird obviously migrated to Dominica, the photo was captured near the Melville Hall Airport and that still isn’t enough?
This is definitely an Osprey. Nice pic.
Hmmm if this picture was taken around Melville Hall Airport why dont I see a more natural background scenery. Something doesn`t seem right
So a tree branch is not natural?
It is obvious the photographer is shooting up into the sky, so if there are no obstacles in the way, with the zoom fully extended, all you are going to see are the branch, the bird and the sky.
I agree with you 100% looks like a fake to me.
well its legit cuz i was there when those pics were taken since i work on the airport. if you think these are fake then i feel sad for you cuz you’ve lost touch with reality.
the pic is real,i took pics also
Excellent Shots! It is a beautiful creature which ever breed it is. To the photographer, you do have an eye for beauty.
its not an eagle if half of these ppl giving stupids comments watch marpin news they would know what this bird was
The Osprey (Pandion haliaetus), sometimes known as the sea hawk or fish eagle, is a diurnal, fish-eating bird of prey
i betting you feeeling stupid right now
so who are you to call ppl stupid
Mr lie he took this picture off the internet.
LOL LOL LOL
How come the branches doe have leaves? This photo looks like it was taken in North America since trees in DA don’t shed all their leaves at once. This is a fake!
GOOD OBSERVATION !!
So right
Good observation i agree with you. im sure that photo is on some other sight. that does not look like Melvin Hall any where near the airport.
cme to the airport now i ill show u the bird, all now w feeding th fishes with brea so the can can get a fish. the other sight is Mr L Charles camera.
is because of the angle people i was right there when it was taken, and if someone can show me that bird anywhere else in Dominica i paying that person. only at the Airport
dat one should stay here to keep an eye on skerro’s where abouts,,,,lol,,,u all know it got radio devices hooked up to it to send signal to mr linton n vice versa so we not playing hhhmmmm should i have let that out,,,,oh well u all know already we in all seen
man you sick !
It’s a pretty bird. I just hope it’s not mischievous
This does not look like an eagle at all.
I hope they capture the bird and preserve it so we can breed eagles here.. This is such a beautiful bird! wow wow… Tourist division… we need this bird to stay in Dominica, that would add value to our beautiful island.
This looks like a malfini: got all the features too.
u should know cause u maybe looking like one……..hahahahahahaha….allu Dominicans not easy
I think you all need to stop your ignorance. Instead of ridiculing other people’s thoughts(not facts), maybe you need to find out exactly what it is. I see we still have so many small-minded people in Dominica that refuse to remove their heads from the gutter. I pity people like yourself you are always out for somebody else when they’re only sharing their personal thought, rather than assuming. find more constructive criticism to do!!!
All malfine (chicken hawk) are dullish brown in colour. Ospreys are widespread but not native to Dominica. Where are the botanists and biologists we have in Dominica? Rupert Sorhaindo? Arlington James and Dr Bannis. Throw some light on this!
wow! awesome.man, look at those claws!well those millay at the melville hall river in serious trouble!
BE CAREFUL! This might be an invasive species that attacks our endemic species and wipes them out.
You think so nooo; why not say a seahawk….malfinni lamere,is dat I see it looking like en.
Yea, “malfini lame” is the Dominican local name for the osprey.
this is not a fake because i saw the bird at the airport myself and i was there when Dawn Reid was taking the picture of the bird. from the position we were and because he had to zoom in on the bird that’s why the pic appear like that. it was sitting on a branch high up on a tree on the other side of the river. there are two birds but when Dawn was taking the photo there was only one at the time
Dawn, This looks more like an Osprey (a.k.a. fish hawk), and not an eagle. Ospreys migrate to Dominica evey year, twice a year, when they are on their south-bound migration and again when they are moving back up to North America (which is what is happening now, and the reason why you saw this bird at that time). They are spotted over Roseau from time to time, and even as far inland as Freshwater Lake
Excellent shots, even with a zoom lens.
yea it is an Osprey its a species of the eagle family. but if you can tell me or show me a pic of one in Roseau
Really appreciate this info
