Oh for the love of an Avocado or a Pear, the latter we would call it. At first I thought they looked bigger than I knew them in Dominica.
Jamaican avocados which are sold at grocery stores in Toronto are double the size of the other avocados which are sold here. The latter are small.
Jamaican avocados are sold by the pound/ kilo.
Would love to have a few. If only we could grow them in Canada. 5 of these little avocados are sold for $4.99. When it is on sale it could be $3.99/$3.29 or 1 for $1.25/0.99cents. There are times I do not purchase them if they are not on sale. Dollar for dollar we in Canada/Toronto find them too expensive. It hurts my heart to pay $4.99 for them. Usually I wait when they go on sale. However, depending on how I feel, I may purchase the package for $4.99.
There is a lot of wastage at those grocery stores. Many people will not purchase the avocadoes due to the cost. What happens? Eventually, they may go on sale and by then they are not good and have to be thrown out. Sad, isn’t it? I have informed the Manager that he should not allow them to go bad and to reduce them. I also make jokes and state that “I should be your Buyer and Manager.”
I downloaded an article on Avocado which details the health benefit of eating Avocadoes. The Website is besthealth.com. There are many interesting health articles and recipes on that site.

@ Truth & Justice – Why don`t you set up a greenhouse and grow your own Avocados/Zabocas in Toronto. Heard there is a Dominican with a productive Avocado tree in Scaborough.

Sensible, intelligent, loving, kind and godly people know that this Website is for amicable dialogue between those who provide their comments on it. It is not and should not be used to attack people, state incorrect things about them and derogatory words and for no reason.
For one, you do not know the person or anything about the person who made the comment. Based on their comments, if you possess basic common sense, you should have a fair knowledge of who they are and their intelligence. You act like the pot calling the kettle black. This is just what you people have depicted.
If you are going to make a comment, make a godly one. Always be kind and in your words. You are showing yourselves to be, what and who you are – not nice people.
You are the stupid ones. You give me a bad taste about you.  Do you have any intelligence to comprehend the difference in commenting intelligently and not?
What is so wrong about what I have written to deserve your foolish statements?  You are sick people – sick of heart and mind.
My writing is in praise of Dominica and its fruit, namely, the Pear – Avocado. Did I criticize it? You are really foolish people to make such comments.  You lack basic common sense, knowledge and intelligence.
You should be reprimanded by all sensible people when you write such garbage and attacking others on this Website and for no reason, just because they provide their sensible and loving comments.
It appears to me that you possess the ungodly spirit of Satan himself for all unloving, unkind words generate straight from the jaws of Satan and the jaws of Hell.
Be careful! By your words which are imbedded in your heart and soul, you do not end up in his eternal cauldron of everlasting fire. You cannot enter Heaven with this attitude.
Your minds are warped and by no means are godly ones.
It is so sad that you people do not have the sense to appreciate the good things which people state. You cannot be a genuine loving and practicing Christian.
Are you not aware that every thought which crosses your mind, every word that you state to anyone and on this Website, for and against (pro and con) that God takes note of them? This will be your judgment and as you age to eternity.
Our Lord has stated, “By your words you will be acquitted and by your words you will be condemned.”
Do you want to live a happy and peaceful life? Then be kind also in your words.
Do you want to be a saint? A godly person, long departed stated: “Be kind! Be Kind! And you will be a saint.”
Do not attack people and do not be critical of those who comment respectfully on this Website. They have a right just as much as you to comment. They are not seeking your approval or your critic. You lack godly appreciation and are out-of-place and tune.
Pray to God for His blessing, graces and virtues to practice same to everyone be it on this Website as you expect of others.

As he saying, fair is fair. We may not agree on everything but I do agree with you on this one.
…Or unpaid one. They do not utilize their computers respectfully. Some of them should not even have one for they do not know how to use them and respectfully so.
There is such a thing as On-Line etiquette – respect and for others when On-Line and commenting/responding which they obviously have not yet learned and need to learn. We need to set them straight that they may learn.

I am sorry you are from Tete Morne…I understand your frustration.

Why would a grown man have a phone in his ear and having some other dude take his picture.

It’s just a little creepy to me….what is he saying to the other person. And why this has to be photographed?

Lastly, the Avocado is not due to be picked, so why the hell he wants to squeeze it for.

And whats up with that big head of hair and unshaved Goatee?

        I don’t get it…its a complicated photo

There is a notable difference though between the two. There is nothing called an avocado pear, ok. Its either one or the other.

But I certainly agree, just an arms length away and you can be filled with a fresh fruit or a stone’s throw. Only in D/ca

Some language! Some of it is difficult to comprehend. Is this French patois/creole – broken French language/Jamaican patois? I know French patois and also noted some broken English.

      August 24, 2011

      @ D/aMassive

In Dominica it is called Pear. This is how I knew it then and expect this is how it is called although the real word is Avocado.
Americans, Canadians of all call it Avocado. Pear in those countries is a smaller and different type of fruit.
I have no idea why our ancestors called it pear and we obviously followed suit. It will always be pear for me even though in Canada I sometimes state, avocado. It all depends who I am talking to. When speaking to Dominicans in Canada I say “Pear”.
It would be interesting to know why Dominicans call it Pear.

no i’ve heard it as both. what’s the big deal eh?

        @ Anonymous

        No problem!
Some people make “A mountain out of a molehill” and also miss the point.
We should contend ourselves with, if we or others wish, to call it a Pear or an Avocado with no criticism from others.
To us Dominicans, it is one and the same, be it a different name. This is what we knew it was called and still is today. It is nothing to dispute about. However, there are certain people with certain minds who will dispute about everything and even sway far away from the topic. They will give others thumbs down when they write sensibly and provide their sensible comments. Something is wrong with them.
It is a picture which someone took of him. I do think it is a good picture. Why should it be disputed about if the man is picking/holding/touching a Pear – Avocado and is on the telephone? Those are small minds who do and who miss the point. It is a picture which someone took of him. I do think it is a good picture.
I have a picture which someone took of me on one of my visits to Dominica when I went on a picnic. I decided to hold a branch of an Almond tree near the sea. When the picture was processed I noted a scenery of Dominica in the background. It made for a better picture. It is another one which I will always cherish.
Some people do not see the beauty, the reasons for it and overlook it. Something must be wrong with their mind and eyes. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder and some people fail to see it and sadly so.
