I saw the Photo of the Day submitted by Mr. Reid and read some comments by some folks not believing. Well, believe now. Here the Osprey is perched on the branch monitoring the river mullets. At the right opportunity it will swoop down and scoop a mullet or two with those claws and fly away with its meal.
Photo by worker at the airport.
Photographers – novice, amateur or professional – in Dominica are asked to submit photos, photographer credit and caption to [email protected] for consideration for the Photo of the Day feature, daily on dominicanewsonline.com or news.dm.
Submissions can be accompanied by a brief profile and contact information of the photographer. Submissions will be published in the order they were received.
Photos must be taken of Dominicans and things Dominican. Note that submissions advertising any form of business or business activity will not be published.
Dominica News Online also encourages the submission of a variety of photos, ranging from nature shots, people shots, weird shots, interesting human interest shots, and anything ‘newsy’.
No one is saying bird isn`t rea, or it has not been seen on the Islandl ,However Im questioning the person who said they took the photo. This picture looks very much like those published in magazines or on the internet. Dominica is naturally green ,beautiful blue skies, yet none of these are present in the picture. Reid you aint fooling me. By the way the two last photo published by DNO are believable, thats exactly the scenery you expect to see in Dominica. Green and beautiful.
wahappen people in da doh have work to do man?
everything you need to know about the bird is here.
http://www.da-academy.org/dagardens_osprey.html
let the bird eat in peace. its in dominica all the time!! but mos tppl never stop to appreciate nature if u do you will find lots more surprises!
That bird came all the way from North America or Mexico. They can fly long distances but. I think some took that picture from a magazine.
Magazine pictures are high resolution pictures…probably you never seen a magazone before
Maybe you have not come to the Melville Hall Airport in awhile. Do you need a picture of the tree itself wothout the bird? The pic is real Gen. Come to the airport. Don’t buy an airline ticket, you dont have to fly out. Just come.
this maybe is a sign that big planes will land soon. emben zoh arveg
Is that the first time that a subject made it twice in 48 hrs on Photo of the Day? BTW, does anyone know wthether we have scorpions on Dominica?
We have scorpions, I have seen samples at the forestry division at the gardens some years back. They were the little almost transparent type, common to regions of mexico. I do not think that they are common but scorpions are known to reproduce and adapt to quite well. If you think you saw one, maybe you actually did and what you should do is try to contact the wild life division or something. Note: the smaller the scorpions the more toxic they generally are. The Huge black ones are generally not as bad as the little ones.
can some one tell me what is so pretty about that bird
It has two big eyes and the color is so doll
most of our Birds r prettier
it’s not ugly but its defiantly not pretty

it flew
…since it couldn’t have come by LIAT it must be an American Eagle!
I may be came on American Eagle. lol
didn’t quite think that one through did you?
The bird not ugly. U should c a malfini. That’s a. Ice bird but what consequences will
It bring if it stays? Reproduce? Or more move in? We gotta think of that. Especially since it might kill off some form of animal species and may well fl back to wherever it’s from once it has. Let’s look into that dno
The Bird IS a malfini. Malfini is the local dominican name for this bird. The correct name is an Osprey. The guy from forestry division already said is an Osprey.
