That picture is amazing….I love it
allu more gave english lessons about the caption than the photo. its called “photo of the day”. not “caption of the day.” headaches with you guy s mayne…..
beautiful pic
mr J u never cease to amaze me… i missing those adventure club trips sigh…. while my fellow dominicans havng an english lesson i’ll sit here n embrace the essence of the pic…. true nature isle
ohhh i love dis pic me n my girls
the look like they are running from a tidal wave
wow loving that pic, this looking like something from and high end magazine.and the beach is sooo marjestic and beautiful
wish i was dr lolzz
People people stop making a big thing out of nothing fine something positive to say rather than critizing every comment posted get a real life or a job.
still waiting for BIG’s ‘this reminds me of KFC’ – WHERE R U
against here means ‘vs’ or ‘versus’. i.e. who will reach the shore first them or the waves…
oh! all u english people give me headaches.
(correct me too – tell me its ‘you’ not ‘u’
oh lovely dominica!! This country is so bless, this picture so reminds me of my track and field school days at the goodwill savannah!!
It is actually a race to see who will arrive at the shore first.. the girls or the wave!!! So the caption is very correct. Common people get a sense of humour and stop trying to justify everything point for point.
If we going to to have a race, you and me. Don’t you say, “I am going to have a race against you?” There are two competitors, you and me, hence technically, we are going to run a race against each other.
The title of this photo is a play on words. I saw that from the time I open the photo but some people are just to simple-minded and don’t see how words can be used in different forms.
maybe thy’re running backwards
actually its neither along nor against. it is supposed to be with. Against would be them entering the sea, along would be like going across it horizontally.Anyways, enough of the english lesson. Lol. Beautiful beach
Beautiful.
I did not get a good grade in English at school, but aren’t these girls not running along with the waves? In quite opposition to what the title states. “AGAINST”
Lovely beach though.
I just wanted to say “GREAT PIC” but you had to get my fingers and brain more work.
Base on your interpretation of the caption! I guess when Usain Bolt is competing in a 200 m race he is running along his competitors verses against. Along indicates there is a mutual benefit, company or synergy. Against indicate in contrariety to: as against reason; against law; to run a race against time etc.
ALL THE MUMBLING ASIDE – The challenge is to get to the shore before the wave – so they are indeed running against the wave.
@economist. you are so correct – had time post mine before yours showed.
Oh those english specialist!!! headaches, headaches.
Economist, you are very logical! Im thinking along our lines and not against them.
Well I may be wrong at this but it says it’s a race against the waves, not a run. Like the famous phrase “race against time”
