we call it cacoa tea and fig in Dominica so who cares what other people call it. Of course some people think they civilised because they left DOminica and other people tell them what to call what we have at home. Who said they were right and we are wrong.

Never see come see come crazy. Love that song. That food looking goooood. I nice lamowee and fig. I myself I live in the States and put blows on my local food all the time. It doesn;t taste the same as our lovely dominican food but so be it. HAWASON is my fav.

Jennifer Baron, excellent photo of a Dominica dish. Did you have to do that to us? It looks so delicious. I can very well imagine that many of DON readers went out to purchase especially “the figs – green bananas and codfish.”
When I viewed the picture of the plate I said: Oh my! How beautiful and delicious!”
Viewing this plate made me so hungry, even though I was not hungry. If I could have taken that plate right out of the computer screen I would have done it.
Now you have us, especially those who reside overseas, going to the supermarket/grocery store to purchase especially the figs – green bananas and codfish. I did! Have not yet cooked it but I will soon. :)
I had previously purchased some codfish to make a green banana – fig pie which I am keeping for some other time.
After I saw your delicious breakfast plate, I purchased some codfish bits and bananas.
There is a grocery store near where I reside which stocks and sells some West Indian foods as bananas, sweet potatoes, figs, plantain, yellow and white yams, cassava etc. Occasionally I purchase some.
I must not forget pigs feet, hocks, oxtail and more… as red beans, pigeon and chick peas – I love cooking these. We have it all in Toronto.
There are times I feel that my body yearns for West Indian foods and so I purchase some. Our root vegetables are also tomatoes and cucumbers, red and green peppers, etc., directly grown from the soil. They are healthy to eat.
As in everything, moderation in eating is essential.
In this City of Toronto, we also have rice, potatoes, lasagna, pasta, the main meals of some people. Casseroles can also be made with these, no exception in Dominica. We have a variety to choose from.
Nothing beats our West Indian foods which are root vegetables and are healthy.
This is a challenge for Dominican residents. A mid-day meal is next and then a dinner? Making me hungry. :)

    @hmmm(the psycho…:) )
You must have no job to be going all over the place looking for ingredients to make homemade DA food. Its okay that you have no life. But some people that have a 9-5 and kids, school, work don’t have time for all this. Maybe you one of those Dominican in jersey that does do nothing. Well where I am codfis to expensive and as for fig..well you can’t find quality bananas down here. I buying them fig in the morning by the time I get home dem fig ripe…lol. I don’t know what del monte and chiquita doing to dem bananas. You know bloody well some of us don’t like fig stains on our hands. ME myself roseau I from and I never cut no fig in DA, so is not states I will come and peel no fig or dasheen etc. The most I does make in states is DA soup once in a blue moon. Other than that I eat out. Not kfc etc but at local greek, italian, resturants. Pre made food is best. lol Yes when it comes to house work I ‘m very lazy and proud to! Thats why I go to school so I pay them mexicans to clean my house. I doing my part for the betterment of society by employing them! Let people enjoy the little picture and doh be jealous just because you doh have a life and is cook you cooking whole day to make yourself feel important. Nice pic DNO

There is no need to insult those who comment on this Website. You do not know who they are, what their personal and work schedule is like. Therefore cease speculating and also assuming what they do with their time. It is none of your business anyway.
Eating U.S. Restaurant food consistently and bragging about it? This is nothing to brag about.
If I were you I would not brag about that. Do you know what is in that food, how it is prepared, under what conditions and by whom?
You would do well to save your money; cook some healthy meals at home which would give you strength and keep you healthy.
You stated that you are lazy? Time to overcome your laziness. Laziness will get you nowhere. Spending too much time sleeping and in futility, on the Internet, viewing TV, having a good time and not finding time to cook healthy meals and clean your place of residence? Shame on you!
In years to come, financially and healthily, you will live to regret it, always eating at restaurants. A treat at restaurants and for some good reasons, once in a while is not bad at all.
You should know that restaurants cost money. In the long run, as you age, it could add up to thousands of dollars, weight gain and certain illnesses.
Also paying people to do your housework could make you a poor person. Add the amount of money it costs you on a daily basis, weekly, monthly and annually. You will realize how much money you could have saved during the year and years to come which you could utilize for something important and necessary.
      I love home cooking!

They have cucumbers, codfish, tomatoes, plantains etc…(anything you can find at the market in Roseau) in supermarkets here. I am in the U.S and I don’t miss any of those foods because I spend time preparing the foods I used to eat back home to eat. Some of you so lazy to prepare a meal ],just live on mcdonalds , KFC, burgerking, pizza hut, dominoes etc and when you all see people adveritise their dishes want to come and say all you mouth watering or drooling or whatever. Mouth of the South, you need to shut up for once. You have to give a stupid and ignorant comment on everything. If you don’t have anything to say, just keep your mouth shut. Try not to be so negative towards your own fellow Dominicans. At least some of them can say they are planting their own fruits and vegetables, trying to support themselves. I wish you would do the same. STUPES.
