Nice pics. I have never really seen them at rest myself. Yes as one writer even Hummingbirds do take a rest.
Unlike popular beliefs these birds take quite a bit of rest. Those of us who grew up working the banana and coffee fields have seen them in all their glory. I have had my fair share of roast foofoo. My catapault and cocoyeas with laglee were always at hand in the fields. We would catch them when they were sucking the flowers from the porport fig. By days end we would have a little bird fry…hmmmm. Beautiful bird I must say.
I killed so many of these birds with my catapult when i was a boy..I have regretted!!!!!!!!
@Patti: Thank you for the iformation. Very interesting. The other comment was sent by my husband and was mistakenly sent to you.
@MangoSweet: How cynical the world has become! This photo was was not altered in any way. All I did was point, zoom & shoot.
As far as I know, no living thing is in a state of constant motion. Even hummingbirds take a break.
This is not real. This is computer generated – right???
BTW, thats a female purple-throated carib hummingbird (locally called “fal-wouj” “madere” and foufou madere) and that is the largest of the four species of hummingbird on Dominica. Just tghought I would share this little birdy tip.
