A lot of you are blogging; but don’t remember the history of the Caribbean airports, how they come to have an international airport, 60% of the Caribbean airport build throughout World War 2. By American & European country

My husband is from the us and he knows more about DA than me, it is called research. He had better not be that ignorant about my country, nor is he suppress, Some advise my brother maybe her next degree should be in economy or geography , that would help. And one. More thing teach your children about your country we may not be reach but we are proud Dominicans and my children that were born in the US with all DA parts are proud to say that old rough country is home.

Maybe she will give you some English and spelling classes first. You ignorant people praises a stadium in the middle of town occupying important real estate. You shout improvements, improvements…you did not worry about nature and all that when the messed up the gardens to built it. now they are building that road from town to Portsmouth. You do not have any problems with it. You call it improvements but you fight against an international airport claiming nature to be your main and only reason?

If you love Da so much, why did you have your kids in the US? If your love DA so much in all it’s natural splendor, then move back home. Not live in the US make US dollars, go Dominica for two days play big and as soon as the money running out and you start seeing the real Dominica you park up and run.

I love da. that’s why monthly i send over 1500 USD home to my family but I say what is happening in DA is bull. We need to fix the country and we need to do so now. But don’t worry. take my word. All the hile they did not wanted the airport at londonderry because poor black people would benefit. you know what happen….rumors have it that the “bojours” hoever you spell that. now own all the cron land from Woodfordhill to marigot. The airport coming…Just watch my word

        ‘praise’ not ‘praises’
        ‘they’ not ‘the’
‘its’ not ‘it’s’ – i’ll give you that one because so many people make that mistake
        ‘pack’ not ‘park’
        ‘while’ not ‘hile’
        ‘want’ not ‘wanted’
        ‘bourgeois’ not ‘bojours’
        ‘however’ not ‘hoever’
        ‘corn’ not ‘cron’
‘mark my words’ not ‘watch my word’

you know seeing as you’re railing on the other person for some spelling mistakes…

by the way…i know it is illegal in to take photos while in departure of the runway…(but who follow this nowadays)

OK so we dont have an International Airport. Yes it would be nice if we did, but we dont, so lets appreciate what we have until we get our much awaited, much deserved International Airport (bet we argue about what it should be called).

I suppose I should feel deprived, as I have never seen cows or goats grazing at Melville Hall.

My daughter does a lot of travelling in her job, and on her visits here, she has never complained about the size or state of M H. If anything she complains about the airport/service in Antigua.

Any constant visitor to Dominica must admit that the Airport has improved tremendously.

So true! These people have not been home in years. I was last home in April 2010 and there’s been such big improvements at the airport and all around Dominica. I’ve heard that improvements are still being made. Constructive criticism is not a bad thing but when things are already being done to make improvements, we need to just sit back and encourage them.

Did you note any improvement to people’s standard of living? did you note any improvement to employment? did you note any improvement to health care? did you note any improvement to education? what about agriculture? Tourism? You think giving people little plywood house every 5 years is improvement?

Why don’t you move back home?

          February 15, 2011

people should be responsible for improving their own standard of living. some dominicans too dama&& and like to wait on government to put project to give them money while they spending all what they have on useless traveling, clothes, shoes, sewo and other unecesary cr#&. we need people in dominica to be more frugal and try to improve their own selves. my and my family’s standard of living has improved because of our own efforts

We want international airport because AA and BA just can’t wait to land a 747 in Dominica. Most times LIAT only has 5 people dropping off in Dominica. How many of you can afford to travel often enough to fill a 737?

They have it, so we want it too. We cannot even afford to fill pothole in the road, but is interntional airport we want. This remonds me of the people who eating Mac & cheese for dinner, but have a new BMW parked in the driveway of the house they renting.

PIPER!!anything is possible. Have you ever thought that if there was an International Airport at home life would be better? We do not need an International Airport for us to travel but for TOURISM, which is where the REVENUE is coming from. With that REVENUE the potholes will be fixed. Without TOURISM there is no REVENUE. How do you think other countries are developed? Other countries are begging for tourism.

LMAO!!you should be thankful that your relatives are getting a plywood house every five years. It is true that some people are eating mac&cheese for dinner so they can have a BMW in their driveway of their rental homes. Don’t you know some people just HAVE to HAVE it. Never see come see come crazy. They rather mac&cheese over banana. I still love my banana and my yellow yam and I do not own a BMW. Dominica is still my home.

    @ Damn.

tell your wife don’t come back. At some point we have to realize that some places like Dominica are meant to remain as authentic as possible. Yes they need to paint and get organized in this country but I love DA with little tourist as possible. Because you know what a bigger airport would do? Bring more snobby and ignorant people like your wife. Hopefully where ever all you living, you don’t have to take out big loan to keep her living at the so called “good life” to which she’s accustomed to. The airport is fine just a little more renovating, some good customer service enhancement and the place will be great. This is DA! Perfectly natural!

@mal vat… well with a name like that you know is just sh*& you talking! Diahorrea of the mouth to be exact! DA is a jungle people. Thats where you from! Be proud of it and campaign for the ministers to make better improvements of. Stop acting all fra in the spot when I’m sure you don’t live in no palace!

My wife has two degrees, one of which is in structural engineering. She was not asking to belittle me or my country; she was asking because she has a genuine interest in these types of structures.

seems like i touched the nerves of many people here. i am sure that those persons who are saying da is ok are those who are well off. But trust me, when they travel they bawl just like me. Ask the college or university student on the side of the road if dominica needs development then come back to me sir….that’s all i will say about that.

Damn. That’s it? When my wife came to Dominica she asked me if this was a minor airport. i said to her that it was not. She asked if there was another . I told her there was one smaller than this but only a few planes go there.

This reminds me of some make shift airport that you see in war movies, or in drug movies, up in the bushes in columbia. A st. Lucian once asked me what was wrong with Da. note that was in 2006. He indicated that when he landed in the airport that there place was filled with grass and that there were cows grazing inside the perimeter thereof.

How can we be serious about taking dominica to “The Next Level” and not want an international airport? V.C Bird tricked Mamo into not building one, then he went on to building one……the rest is history.

Nothing to be ashamed off! We are doing our best with what the Great Architect blessed us with and that happens to be a very mountainous country. I doubt your St. Lucian friend encountered cows within the airport perimeter in 2006. It certainly was fenced then, although goats were not an unusal sight till the late 60’s.
It’s no thanks to mr. V. Bird that Antigua has its international airport. It was constructed by the U.S armed forces duriing WWII and became operational in 1941 as Coolidge Air Force Base, a name it kept till 1985 when its was renamed V.Bird, after Antigua’s firs prime minister, during his life time – he certainly was no stranger to vanity! St. Lucia likewise owes its international airport, Hewanora to the same benefactor. That too opened in 1941, as Beane Field (Army Airfield). I am sure the U.S.A. would have constructed one in Dominica if they had found a location with adequate flat ground and unobstructed approaches but they were faced with the same obstacles we are still facing today.
Our neighbours in Antigua and St. Lucia were lucky but that is no reason to belittle us
