I see a young woman’s heart. A heart that has been hurt so many times in the past, it is now guarded heart with prickles for protection.

Let me get serious now! It is a seed pod. We do not have Venus Fly Traps in Dominica, but at first glance I suppose that it does look like one.

It is the pod of a spiney vine that grows along the dry west coast. One place is near St.Joseph and Mero. It bears two large smooth grey seeds. We used to rub them hard on a stone and put them fast on a ‘friend’ and it would burn them. Its sceintific name is Caesalpinia bonduc. In Kweole we call it: l’epini, or kash-kash.

Reason, I agree with you, that this is a seedpod of the kach-kach. The plant makes yellow flowers, and the even the stem also has prickles. It grows as a sort of vine.

Kach-kach seeds are commonly used in “botanical jewelry”, for producing earrings and chokers.
