DPC POETRY: BEAUTY? It must be the water!

It must be the water…
The elixir of the gods
Clear, pristine
That heaven-spun brew
The gods drew
And poured into the Atlantic stream
Combined with the verdant green
That created a people of
Glowing skin
Buttery sheen
Radiating from within.
A purity
reflected in
African
Kalinago
Mulatto
Diversified makeup
An ancestry steeped in
A colored history;
Genetic mystery
Trapped in whispered dew that
Pervades the coalescing mountains.

It must be the water…
That nourishing
Nurturing
Sustaining element
Rewarding
The fertile soil
The basket of all:
They ate from Eden’s bounty
Emanating an ethereal beauty
Natural
Spiritual
Rich
Like the Caribbean sea
Hotbed of diversity.

It must be the water…
Azure clarity
Waves of possibility
Borne out of the fertility
And probability
Of genetic fusions
Without question
An artistic expression
Of tonal manipulations
Creating facial features
That flaunt
The desire to want
Faces that impress
With features of finesse
Which I must confess
Are some of the best
So I stand in awe
Looking at maléwé to bourgeois
Noting without par
The poetic interpretations they inspire
How could it be, I ponder
It must be the water…

Ron, this piece is one of homage. Indeed, it is in the water; our natural resource.
