This is ( cilantrillo) the spanish name of course, My wife is hispanic and it is usually a key ingredient in the sanchoco soup she prepares for our family. I often jokingly tell her that this little weed that she buys grows all over dominica especially where you find a black ant nest; It’s a shame she has to pay for it.

All i know is that my uncle and his friends used to smoke it when they were younger. It is commonly smoked in many asian countries and gives you a high similar to that of taking lower grade cannabis but it is far more bitter to the taste so not as popular.

Should it be regarded as a drug or not? Or we waiting for America to tell us??

  50. realdominican
    January 31, 2014

It is used all over the world medicinally for treating flu, burns, constipation, diarrhea, fever, chills, worms, snake bite, scorpion stings, and even diabetes. Its name fitweed comes from its use in treating seizures and epilepsy.
It is high in calcium, iron, carotene, and riboflavin and acts as an appetite stimulant, so it has many culinary uses as well. The taste is very similar to cilantro, but stronger and it can be used in chutneys, marinades, sauces, salsas, meat and vegetable dishes.

  65. Just sayin'
    January 31, 2014

Well, yes I can though I will not…people will come to my place and “borrow” it for their one-pot. It has at least two names: If you infuse it in a bottle of Mahaut Whiskey…chook …oops almost gave that one away. In food it is a good (better) substitute for celantro. However, I know these things from reading books and the inter-webs…I do not have it growing in my herb garden, or down by the river, or outside the window where things sometimes land when I am too lazy to compost….so, do not come around looking forr that myssterious un-known herb.
