WEEKEND FUN UPDATE: Is the mountain in the background located in Dominica?

weekend funThanks to all readers who participated in our last installment of Weekend Fun.

Some of you got the correct answer, or close to it.

The photo was taken slightly off the coast of Portsmouth. The mountain in the background is NOT located in Dominica but is actually a mountain in the neighboring French island of Guadeloupe.

Enjoy the weekend.

    I was well and truly wrong! Guadeloupe, amazing! Right next door and so close, yet like a different world where you can buy European goods , free from import tax (incl. cars). decent bread and cheese, quality tools at affordable prices and frequent daily flights direct to Europe at affordable prices. Where did we go wrong with our independence? Today we’re more dependent than ever and poor at the same time. Maybe we should ask France to adopt us as part of their country?

      So what you’re saying is that we were dependent on France, and chose to become independent from them? Look at any other country where Britain was the colonial master and tell me what good it does being dependent on Britain?

    DNO, Correction. Your explanation said that the photo was taken “slightly off the coast of Portsmouth”. Actually, I took that photo on 30th December 2008, from the edge of the Michael Douglas Blvd in Glanvillia, near one of the grounded cargo boats. The tallest peak in the background is La Soufriere, the tallest mountain in Guadeloupe. Seems like one of email contacts who I sent that pic to forwarded it to DNO.

      for all those saying that the pix was taken outside of Purple Turtle, that’s not correct. The photo was shot from right across Prince Ruperts Bay, south of the mouth of the Indian River but north of PBH and Long House. That day I could see La Soufriere from Pottersville. The shot was zoomed in quite a bit, hence the reason why some folks want to associate the pix with Purple Turtle.

    The only place in Dominica this photo would come close to matching, would be Portsmouth and to be specific PBH area past the long house. But there is one problem with the photo, the location of the sail boats towards the beach and the stoney beach in the background does not match the landscape. I’m sorry but this picture is not Portsmouth and therefore most definitely could not have been taken in Dominica. Just look at the angle if it was Portsmouth, the photo would have to be taken from lagoon area facing southwest towards picard/PBH/Coconut beach. It just dont match. NOT DOMINICA

      @IPO:

      Dominica comprise not only the physical land, but also the territorial water/sea and airspace. So if the photo was taken in some boat/yatch in the sea that is part of Dominica, then the photo WAS taken in Dominica.
