Former Cabinet Secretary Ambassador Steve Ferrol will soon move to Washington to represent Dominica as the new Ambassador to the United States (US).
The announcement was made by the Minister responsible for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Vince Henderson.
“We are hoping that we can see a new ambassador taking office in Washington very soon,” he said. “Ambassador Steve Ferrol, former secretary to the Cabinet, will be moving to Washington soon to represent Dominica as our Ambassador to the United States.”
He continued, “The US being our neighbour and very close friend, we expect to strengthen our relations with the United States.”
Dr. Henderson added that he is happy that Dominica has been able to work very closely with the Department of state on the development of geothermal energy.
“They have provided us with technical support to assist us in negotiating the final term of the development of geothermal,” he stated.
He mentioned further that the US is also assisting Dominica in mobilizing resources through various facilities, such as the Global Environmental Facility.
“We are working on an eight-million-dollar grant for geothermal development,” he noted. “With their assistance, we are also working together on getting support from IRENA, the International Renewable Energy Agency based in Abu Dhabi based in the UAE, but the US being a member of the board is assisting us with that.”
Furthermore, he noted that Dominica was able to collaborate with the US on renewable energy.
“There is also an ambitious agricultural development program between CARICOM and the US and we are hoping that our Ambassador will be able to assist us in pushing this agenda further in Washington together with the other initiatives on security and some other bilateral areas that we are exploring,” he indicated.
Herein lies the problem with the government and political party I once supported. The man is retired. Leave him in retirement and find a suitable candidate who is able to perform in the position. You all keep doing this. You all just keep giving a selected few opportunities. So one group of people are extremely wealthy, while the middle class is erased and the majority are destitute. There are sensible men and women in the government. Stop making people take allu for Teheh.

What to study to become an ambassador?
Even though educational requirements to become an ambassador are not specific, like with many specialist positions, a graduate degree is preferred or required with the Foreign Service. Most ambassadors hold a degree in political science, international relations, history, or other related disciplines. A master’s degree or Ph.D. can accelerate the diplomatic career of aspiring ambassadors.

Steve Ferrell isa long time Skerrit trustee, I know that but something is not clear. Vince Henderson became our ambassador to the USA in Oct. 2016 but he left that post more than a year ago. Why did he leave and when exactly? Does it mean that we did not have an ambassador to the USA for all that time? I am not aware we appointed a new person between Vince and Steve now. Was there a hiatus? Surely that can not be so with the USA bring such a close partner and having such a large population of Dominican descent. Something is missing here, or am I mistaken? Can someone fill in the holes please?

The last sham election was a perfect case of recycling these docile hangers-on. All of the former members of Cabinet who were excluded from contesting the last bogus election, were made advisers or placed somewhere in prominent positions in the public service.
In this present dispensation, the Haves are licensed to vulgarly enrich themselves while the Have-Nots continue to be marginalised. The disparity in income grows. The few privileged, well-connected are given carte-blanch access to state resources, while the poor vast majority of citizens are being severely deprived.

Wow. I grew up with Steve Ferrol in Paix Bouche and this young man was so highly respected. He was deeply involved in his church and was the only member of the “Red eyes” band that would not touch a spiff, let alone to do wrong. But Alas how this man made a 360 degree turn around since Skerrit became PM. No wonder he is made an ambassador by Skerrit to do Skerrit’s dirty work for him. Your day in court and imprisonment will come Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit. You have the protection of your diplomatic status as Prime Minister for now. Notice you and your wife don’t do holidays in the US anymore with your American children, only official visits as PM. Time will tell. Your time is almost up.
