Government expresses solidarity with China over killing of Chinese national

The government has expressed solidarity with China over  the death of Chinese national Zing Jian Yong, describing the incident as “unfortunate”. Yong was shot in Picard, Portsmouth on Tuesday night.

In a statement on Thursday, Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Kenneth Darroux said, however, the incident was “isolated”.

He said it was with “intense sadness and concern” that the government learnt of the shooting of the 49-year-old man.

“As one can imagine this is indeed a sad time for the family and friends of the victim, the entire Chinese community in Dominica and of course all Dominicans who have enjoyed peaceful coexistence with our Chinese brothers and sisters for many years,” he said.

Since the incident, the government met with officials of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to express their condolences.

He also used the opportunity to reiterate that Dominica has enjoyed diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China for the better part of 16 years.

And according to him, since establishing relations, several technical and economic agreements have been signed between the government of the Commonwealth of Dominica and the People’s Republic of China.

Additionally, Darroux said the Government of Dominica acknowledges the People’s Republic of China and all citizens as true friends.

The Foreign Affairs Minister reassured all Chinese nationals who have settled into the country’s local communities that Dominica still remains one of the safest places in the world to live and work.

“And we will continue to be each other’s keeper,” he stated.

He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the One China Policy and “to state clearly and unapologetically that we stand firm with them through thick and thin…”

Police are investigating the matter and are expected to present the facts of the incident soon.

Authorities have also said that they have no doubt that the perpetrator or perpetrators of “this horrible crime will be swiftly apprehended and brought to justice”.

I heard that one-man corrupt rogue regime minister reading that speech and I swear it was a child learning to read! This man for his status just can’t speak or read! Here it is these rogues are kissing the rear of another set of rogues called chinese government, but ready to destroy Nationals who are making meaningful contributions to the Island. Killing of a Chinese or anyone else is not something I condone, though I want to see these Chinese out. What happens to Nationals who find themselves in similar and other situations, does the rogues respond in such manner :?: What about the attempted assassination of the late G.O.N Emmanuel and his wife and the roguish way the one-man corrupt rogue regime reacted :?: This one-man corrupt rogue regime has a severe judgement awaiting them!!

The Chinese come, buy or lease property, make money off the People while isolating themselves, it is the same where ever they touch base. Their lack of Social Skils, have forced People from other Climes to be very Animalistic towards them. All should not be about investments and the new day exploitation of the Worlds natural resources. We must not be blinded.

    I know it is called “The Act of Contrition” but seems like Dr. Darroux has just turned it around to The Act of COUNTRYCIAN. So let’s pray The act of Countrycian with father Dr Kenneth Darroux;

Of my god (China) I don’t want you to turn away from us,
for we know with the killing of a Chinese, we don’t deserve the international airport
But our god (china) you know our eyes are on you
So please help us to be nice to our Chinese brothers and sisters amongst us
We renew our One China policy
We will continue to be each other’s keeper
We continue to stand faithful before you
We confess that your god is our god, and your people are our people according to Ruth 1:6
So please forgive us for our sin and we promised to do all in our power to ensure we never commit this sin again amen.

while I am very sorry for the murder of the Chinese national, I want you to know that Dominica was a better country before all you entered into that one China policy. we are hurt by being one…

All you behaving as if there was NO Dominica before China yet I not seeing nothing we now have that we didn’t have b4 the One China thing. China met us with everything except maybe the stadium that Skerrit played his politics with.
A human being got killed by a national and it is sad, whether it was an American, Chinese, Haitian, Cuban or even Iranian. It’s bad to kill somebody to steal his belongings.
I am not upset the government reached out to the Chinese embassy because it is indeed the right thing to do; but dear God, we don’t have to go on our knees as it were and confess all our sins to China man. We have to confess our belief in the “One China Policy”, confess program s signed between the two countries; confess it’s an isolated incident, confess we are still the safest place on earth and all that nonsense as if the Chinese threatened to not deliver on a promise because of that? Man honestly speaking all you behaving like hungry hyenas according to Al Jazeera.

I wish I could hear the Government of Dominica expressing such concerns and condolences when local native Dominicans are murdered and when illegal firearms are found in the possession of friends of this Government! Chickens coming home to roost!

    Dr Darroux,
Why did you have to come out and say all these things? The investigations are on going:- just say that.
We do not know why this crime happened, we do not know if it’s the guys fault. We do not know if it was self defense.
Right away you talking and making it sound like the Chinese people are innocent. Please stop it. Let the Police do their investigations or make some comment before you say these kinds of things.

Some parliamentarians may have brandished their sniper skills with their gun in parliament so citizens will follow. Leadership is everything!

Why is the government being apologetic about this stuff? Do they apologize to the Dominican families of victims of crimes like this? As if China will take all their marbles home if the crime is not given national attention? As unfortunate as this was, Chinese citizens are subject to the high and lows of Dominican life… crime being one of them.
Gov’t have themselves to blame – if Skerrit can break the law, then why not the average Dominican, eh? Remember, as the head goes, so goes everything else. The government should fix the crime issue for all Dominicans… not just Chinese. And the police or national security folks should start with the allegations that Skerrit broke the laws in siphoning millions into his personal coffers. I know the two issues (murder of Chinese vs Skerrit stealing) may not seem related, but criminals feel empowered, especially if they feel their leader is commiting high crimes.
