The Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force (CDPF) is currently in pursuit of a 29-year-old from Grand Fond serving a 28-year jail sentence after being convicted of manslaughter in the death of his father. Shockingly, Dailey managed to evade custody, making a successful escape from the Dominica State Prison on January 3, 2024.
This daring escape has prompted law enforcement to actively engage in the search for the fugitive. Dailey’s legal saga began on January 9, 2017, when, after a heated verbal altercation, he inflicted severe head and bodily injuries on his father, 62-year-old Maurice Murry Dailey, in the early morning hours in Grand Fond. Maurice was subsequently admitted to the Princess Margaret Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on February 21, 2017.
Six years later the matter was tried at the High Court, and on May 25, 2023, succeeding a seven-day trial, a nine-member jury deliberated for 1 hour and 48 minutes returning with a not guilty verdict for murder but found Dailey guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter.
The prosecution, which presented its case over seven days and called 11 witnesses to the stand, highlighted the severity of Maurice’s injuries, which were inflicted by his son.
Following the guilty verdict, then High Court Judge, Justice Thomas W. R. Astaphan, sentenced Dorian Dailey to 28 years, 9 months, and 22 days in prison. The gravity of the crime and the resulting sentence indicated the severity with which the court viewed Dorian’s actions. His expected release date was set for May 9, 2052.
However, the recent escape of Dailey from the Dominica State Prison has raised concerns about the security measures in place. When contacted, a prison official who requested anonymity stated, that law enforcement is working tirelessly to locate and apprehend the fugitive, given the potential threat he poses to the community.
The authorities are urging anyone with information about Dailey’s whereabouts to come forward, emphasizing the importance of ensuring his swift return to lawful confinement.

Please do not exaggerate about crime. Crime is everywhere and even more so in the bigger islands. We live in a modern society and we’re not immune to the things that make people kill each other, human beings who have moved away from the spiritual and are just about material things .
First thing you need to do is put his hands at his back in handcuffs. Not barring him from moving.
There is never a dull moment in Dominica. The country is replete with crime, social, political and economic problems.
When it is not murder, it’s wounding with intent, child sexual molestation, vehicular accidents, hit and run, prison escape, increase in taxes, electricity outages, electrical appliances being destroyed by power surges, unscheduled water interruptions, and the list of damning issues is inexhaustible.
The country needs an urgent change in governance. Dominicans need a government that cares, with vision, that is people centered, and one which uses the resources of the state equitably. Time for a new and proactive government that respects the rule of law. The lawlessness, greed, corruption and ineptitude are too pervasive.
We are not the only country with problems. USA. UK the smaller islands of the Caribbean come on 2024 New beginning stop crashing DA because you don”t live there. SHAME on you old DUCK.
Tell Fontaine so. It is right in his backyard, Grand Fond. This is the man who wants to discuss the future of Dominica whilst they are killing in Grand Fond. What he needs to do is to arrange a cease-fire in Grand Fond, not in Sudan.
