A nine-member jury consisting of seven women and two men has convicted a Haitian national residing in Dominica of Indecent Assault of a minor girl.
Following a one-week trial, Aziza Nelson was found not guilty of the Unlawful Sexual Intercourse (USI) but guilty of the lesser charge of Indecent Assault.
The incident occurred on September 25, 2016, when the female victim was 10 years old. Succeeding today’s verdict, Nelson was remanded into custody at the Dominica State Prison pending a bail application hearing scheduled for June 7, 2023.
The now-convicted man is represented by attorney-at-law Wayne Norde who is assisted by Gina Abraham-Thomas.
Nelson will be sentenced on July 14, 2023.
Go and look after your children, give them a proper education, food, clothing shelter and security instead of posting BS about Skerrit. Jacka. You cannot take Skerrit out of power with that level of stupidity.
What? It took 7 years ! Our justice system is broken, All hope is gone in this country. Something is seriously wrong with our legal system. When a criminal act committed against a child is only dealt with after seven years, the child basically is being traumatized
all over again.
Hope he is deported after he serves his time behind bars
6-7 yesrs after. Smh..our children just not safe God help us.
“…………..remanded into custody at the Dominica State Prison pending a bail application hearing scheduled for June 7, 2023.” Bail for what exactly? He is to be sentenced next month (July 14). I’m suggesting if this man is granted bail, he may likely flee.
That’s the new culture of Dominica that Skerrit, Blackmore and the labor cabal have kind of introduced to Dominica and sadly visitors , residents and locals all fall in line.
Two concerns here. Delayed justice is injustice. Why on average these cases take five to seven years to be heard and dispatched? Every system in Dominica is dysfunctional under this unfit and tainted administration.
Sexual abuse and rape of minors are much too prevalent in Dominica. Law enforcement must pursue this specific crime most rigorously with the intention of reducing it to negligible levels.
I hope the judge imposes the maximum punishment on this perpetrator in order to send an unmistakable to other like minded felons.
