Minister of Housing, Land & Urban Development, Melissa Poponne-Skerrit has revealed that 50 families will soon receive keys to their new homes.
She made the announcement during the annual President’s Charities Foundation cheque presentation ceremony held at the State House Conference Centre on Monday.
“As the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, usually I push towards the end of the year to provide the ultimate gift, the gift of home, and we have been successful this year again and soon in a couple of weeks we will be handing over 50 homes that are ready to give out to deserving families,” she said.
According to Poponne-Skerrit, this initiative is a testament to the government’s commitment to ensuring that everyone has a place to call a home, “a foundation from which they can thrive and flourish.”
Furthermore, she announced that her ministry is gearing up to spread some Christmas cheer in every corner in the “vibrant City of Roseau.”
“Our annual Christmas Village at the Botanic Gardens which has blossomed into a beloved tradition since the inception in 2019, will once again be an exciting hub of joy welcoming visitors from all walks of life,” Poponne-Skerrit stated.
She describes the ‘Christmas Village’ as a magical place where families come together, laughter fills the air and the true essence of the season shines brightly.
Meanwhile, she added, the government is getting set to launch the grand opening of the former Dominica Club to bring speciality sports to the city

Well, as much as I despise this evil regime, I have to say that the Christmas village in the gardens and on the Bayfront are lovely ideas. I take advantage every year since its inception because when it comes to Christmas I am a big kid at heart.
I encourage all to visit the gardens once its ready.

Take the keys, don’t worry about the title. All this government housing is done so cheaply that they’ll start becoming a maintenance nighmare/getto in a couple of years.Live there rent free, save some cash and walk away. Just look at Bellevue Chopin and the apartments at Castle Bruce. All falling apart.

“Fifty families to receive keys to new homes.” Wouldn’t it be quite better if the statement read, “Fifty families will OWN new homes and would be able to use them as collateral to procure loans.”
Honestly, these people will probably live in a more comfortable physical space. However, they will still remain dispossessed. Along with paying through their noses for high water and electricity rates, buying new furniture on hire-purchase, already burdened with daily rising cost of food and necessities, having to contend with the starvation sages and high unemployment rate, life will be even more onerous for most.

like how families for keys on the riverside apartments by grammar school. The kinds of big rides that does be parked outside there. No rent paid eh. I know of one woman, she alone living in one of those 3 bedroom apartment. But they trying to make it seem like is destitute families that urgently need help that getting those apartments. lies, their friends they giving apartment on behalf of the state. No rent no insurance to be paid. no down payment no nothing. just sell your soul.
