A cache of firearms has been surrendered to police by a civilian, reports Ag Police Chief

Acting Police Chief Lincoln Corbette has announced that a citizen of Dominica has handed over nine firearms to a police officer.

He made the announcement during a press conference held recently.

“I am very pleased to report that a citizen of Dominica handed [them] over to Sergeant Yankey.  Nine firearms including rifles, pistols, and revolvers,” he revealed. “And 216 rounds of ammunition.”

Sergeant Yankey works at the St Joseph station.

“I am extremely proud of that officer,” Corbette stated. “And if you know the gentleman well, he is very meticulous,  professional…”

Furthermore, he said the police announced the largest drug bust in Dominica’s history, of over 46 million dollars worth of cocaine.

“I think that might be the biggest haul ever in Dominica,” he said, “I remember in 1981, 1982, thereabout we had a seizure of about 3,000 pounds of cocaine. We’ve dwarfed that.”

He continued, “So we seized 1,730 kilos of cocaine with a street value estimated at EC$46.764 million. The largest haul ever in Dominica.”

Corbette congratulated the police officers who were part of  ‘Operation Clean Street’.

Launched in late September 2025, the Regional Security System (RSS) and the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force (CDPF) implemented “Operation Clean Street”, a sweeping regional crackdown on illegal firearms, narcotics, and violent crime.

“That is 46 million dollars that will not be in the hands of the criminals to cause damage and danger to our citizens,” he remarked. “Cocaine is a very dangerous substance.”

Meanwhile, the Acting Police Chief revealed that 24 arrests were made, and a large amount of cash and firearms were seized as a result of ‘Operation Clean Street’.

“We have arrested 19 males and five females in this operation, and they have been charged for various offences. During the exercise, we’ve seized in excess of US$10,000, 800 Bajan dollars, 400 Euros and EC$30,507,” he revealed. “We seized and recovered two shotguns, one submachine gun, one nine millimetre Taurus pistol, seven air rifles, two imitation Glock pistols, one imitation rifle.”

He mentioned further that several rounds of ammunition were also seized.

Hello Dominicans and congratulations to the police force to confiscate such enormous amount of drugs and illigal firearms. I am curious to know what the legislation is like in Dominica, regarding firearms. If someone could post here a link to the laws, I would be grateful. In my country (Iceland) handguns are completely illegal. Fulfilling special requirements, a few people are allowed to own handguns for competitive sport use. They can not be used outside shooting ranges and such. Automatic weapons are illegal. To own a hunting weapon (shotgun, rifle), one must complete a three evening course on weapon safety and hunting regulations. It is mandatory to keep all weapons in approved locked steel-cabinet in your home. Number of weapons per capita is similar to Finland, Switzerland and Sweden, but homicides and other crimes involving weapons are almost unheard of. One fundamental thing is that self-defence with a weapon in not allowed and not accepted by the public.

I am a poto Labour,I have said it before S cd Boycott Yankee should be an ASP instead of sergeant. The guy is being victimized because he does not support DLP.
The police force is a force of slackers because UWP made it so,when they dismissed Chief of Police Desmond Blanchard and his Deputy Hansel Valarie. That also led to the victimization of one of the Caribbean best police officers Philsbert Alfred by the DLP.

I smell some dead rats! Corbette is congratulating the police officer and not the person who surrendered the firearms? What more did the officer do apart from accepting what was surrendered?

Biggest drug bust… no arrests reported?

Great job officers and kuddos to Sgt Yanky for a job well done.

I know it took a lot of convincing to get that individual to give up those weapons. We all know you are not one the my-parl-rep-sent -me officers and look forward to seeing you in garbadine soon. Yes I will dare to say you are one of the good ones.

Again, when I said here Corbette may have his ways but he is a no nonsense guy I was castigated. Yes, the guy has made mistakes and is now seen as a lapdog to Mrs. Gravitate and huzzy but, I still believe with a new command staff (no JJ, No Taytaylay, No Maximea) and a new national security minister (Fire Poo-Poo-U) he can turn this wayward ship around. Believe me, under Corbette the said ZONE ROUGE GNAG day will soon come. Mark my words!

I also recommend @Labour Power as an advisor to the Chief 8)

The drug trade fuels the abundance of illegal firearms in the country as guns and drugs are twin brothers.

It’s therefore imperative that strategies and measures be put in place to reduce or even eradicate the illegal drug trade. Treatment and rehabilitation centers to treat addiction. Gainful employment particularly for the young and middle aged. Tighter security and more vigilance by security officers at ports of entry.

Community policing is another integral strategy in the overall scheme of things in crime fighting. Police need assistance from the public to solve crime.

Well, well, well, it’s like Dominica is Ukraine or Russia, Iran or Yemen?Which? Guess there are numerous other ‘high powered’ and easily concealed smaller guns out there.
I don’t often congratulate the police, because politics and poor top management has reduced the CDPF to a shell of what it was before, but the squad that’s hunting down the guns, kudos to you all.👏👏👏👏👏👏 Who knows, i could innocently be caught up in exchanges of gang fire, so that’s good news.
How did we arrive there though? Were the police asleep playing politics or fighting for promotion most dont deserve? Were they just lazy? Were custom officers asleep? Do we need more patrol boats? Instead of just using or frittering our money away, to stay in office, why Skerrit (the compulsive liar), can’t use the same money to look after our safety? Equip the police and replace Blackmore.

Well when the boats get stopped in open waters jackheads like you come and say that they were fishing boats and is U.S. trying to invade Venezuela and what not. Nowhere in the caribbean is there any significant cocaine production. It all comes from south america – mostly colombia. They ship them up on those same boats like the one that got blown up in open water.

And you know, for a fact, that those blown-up boats carried cocaine, right? Be careful with your answer because not even those who blew up the boats are certain that they contained cocaine.
