If all goes as planned, a new political party will be officially launched in Dominica in May this year.
According to the information received by Dominica News Online (DNO), The Alternative Peoples’ Party (APP), which describes itself as a centrist, law-abiding political organization, was formed in December 2019 and in an article on its Facebook page, states, “The Alternative Peoples’ Party (APP) is a political movement which is founded on the principle of coexistence, democracy and justice. We seek greater involvement of youth and women in electoral politics on the island of Dominica, and among Dominicans in the diaspora.APP aims to unite Dominicans under one common goal – prosperity for all irrespective of party affiliations, spiritual beliefs and financial circumstances.”
Based on reports that political observer Alex Bruno is part of this new political movement, DNO contacted Bruno who would neither confirm nor deny his involvement. However, when pressed, Bruno who was associated with the United Workers Party’s politics in the last general election, remarked, “If there is a meaningful and well-intended political movement which focuses on the overall good of our youth – today’s leaders – women and the wider citizenry of the nature isles, I will – without hesitation – be involved. I will also offer my expertise, represent, support and be identified with such a movement because this is exactly what the people need now.”
He added, “Quite apart from the badly needed repair which the Dominican electoral system is shouting for, there is also urgent need for a broad level opposition coalition that would better respond to the challenges faced by the current, seemingly lone opposition voice – the United Workers Party.”
According to sources, the new party has attracted several young Dominicans many of whom had no serious prior involvement in partisan politics on the island. Our information also reveals that a young woman now serves as interim president.
The official launch of the three months old movement is carded for sometime around the middle May 2020 in the town of Portsmouth which, we are told, has been earmarked to be the party’s base of operations.
Our sources reveal that the party’s focus is on youth and women and that several young people, mainly women, are already involved in early planning and that plans for the APP’s first Summer Youth Engagement and National Convention are already in the works.
The party is engaged in the process of applying for registration with the Electoral Commission of Dominica and hopes that this will materialize ahead of its May launch, our sources say.
Bruno is of the view that the APP should be taken seriously.
“I believe that the nation is ready for the resetting of the electoral political clock because, quite frankly, the incumbent party in the governing apparatus has overstayed and the decadence which has befallen the system is very apparent,” he posited.
The APP has formulated its electoral reform policy for Dominica which has been posted on the party’s Facebook page.
We the people of Dominica, including those overseas are fed up and sick with failed corrupted labour Government under this immature, weak, incompetent Skerrit and his failed questionable Labour Government. We no longer need them. We need them out of Dominica`s business. There is absolutely no need for a new Political Party in Dominica. From what I am reading there is no justification nor evidence to justify this silly action. Who on earth in Dominica is suggesting this. Don`t we have enough issues with fake failed Skerrit and his corrupted DLP government?
We have an exceedingly well positioned decent UWP Party in Opposition with a great Team, lead with high level of decency by Hon Lennox Linton. While I strongly believe Lennox is the best suited man to run Dca and bring her back to her glory days (assisted by Ken Vital – I know he is Freedom by that can change), diversity is healthy in any democratic society. I was all in favour of a new political party to be launched just to get rid of that nasty opposition crap but reading further down the line I came across a name Alex Bruno, then I realised this isn’t a new political party as claimed to be! I love it .. The women have had enough and its time we follow them to greater days for Dominica. Men have done nothing but steal and lie and protect other men for much worse… I will gladly listen to the APP … Lets hope Dominicans realize a good thing when it watching them in their face!
Nooo, we are a very small island, but bigger than Barbados and if they Barbados are able to discipline themselves and put Country first before party and the interest, these failed DLP politicians are missing the point of how we move on together as a people.
If there are faults and misgivings in either party (in particular failed Labour Party, after 20years have failed us with a failed Prime Minister, then get them the hell out of our Government- too much known Bobols, as our people suffer). Then join in and be a UWP member and play your part in the interest of Dominica and its people.
We need decent, professionals, dedicated and committed Party (UWP) to take over the helm in managing, administering this poverty island of ours, where there is no Bobol. Our people need to be disciplined about the workings of government and professionalism. There must be no corruption, devious Red Clinic Bobol etc, and no abuse of our money, reference “Skerrit`s Red Corrupt Clinic” Skerrit must Go.
Is it always going to be called an ‘Alternative’ Party? Even if it gets into office? If it is formed now, we already know that it is an alternative to what exists now…a given. But will that always be its identity? The alternative party?
The name could be a little less obvious.
For a small island, we just do not need a new party in place. We already have three political Parties in place and therefore we as Dominicans have a choice to determine who is most eligible and decent with some level of high professionalism to govern and manage our ailing and poverty stricken Dominica by this failed Labour government who has ruined our island and have our people in deep poverty. The leadership of the DLP is worthless, incompetent, immature and knows nothing of socio economic development. This is just a Labour boyish fanfare weird government, where we know that this failed PM will have our people coming to him to receive loyalty and corrupted cash, whereas we have a Welfare Division Team whose job is it to assess and address the issues of our families who are in need of help which is managed by our dedicated Welfare Officers for years and not fake Skerrit abusing and taking advantage of our vulnerable people. It`s political abuse administered by Skerrit. Shame Skerro.

I am not in this thing just for talking sake and on personalities of who we hate or love. That is not and must not be the issue. The open issue is this, that this current Labour party and its leader, PM, has failed us, who is extremely immature, visionless and has ruined our economy, killed our agricultural sector and have our farmers in poverty and begging. Skerrit and this failed Labour government must not remain nor return to our government for the 50 years. They must go to a symposium and medicate and outburst where and how this Labour party has failed Dominica
overwhelmingly. Well, it is due to Bobols, an immaturity- failed PM in Skerrit and too many shut your mouths within the Labour Party. Skerrit is not Labour, everyone who are members are the core of any political party, but labour has been weak and corrupt.
