Acting Police Chief Lincoln Corbette said police in Dominica “will not tolerate any nonsense” during the staging of the 25th Edition of the World Creole Music Festival (WCMF), and that includes public smoking of cannabis.
The ‘three nights of pulsating rhythms ‘ are scheduled for tonight (October 24) to October 26, beginning 8:00 PM at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium.
According to Corbette, during a recent press release, the police force is mandated every year to ensure that all activities planned during the festive season are properly policed.
“You will see this year, as likewise, an increased presence of the police in and around the event,” he said. “So you will see more officers throughout the city. You have heard the ACP Maximea speak at a press conference, [we] won’t tolerate any nonsense at the festival.”
He continued, “If you break the law, it’s very likely to find yourself being arrested and put away until the end of the events.”
In this regard, the acting chief took the opportunity to remind the public that although individuals are allowed to carry 28 grams or less of cannabis, it is still an offense to smoke cannabis in public.
“A lot of states around the world you cannot smoke cannabis anywhere,” he remarked. “ In Dominica, you have the privilege to smoke in the privacy of your home, but not in the public space.”
Corbette added, “Officers will approach you, and deal with you according to the law if you insist on smoking in the public.”
Furthermore, he called on members of the public to cooperate with the police since congestion of traffic is expected at this time.
Corbette urged, “Please enjoy yourself in a very clean, peaceful atmosphere.”
No cannabis? so how people who smoke and don’t drink crap and crash going to enjoy, it’s a fet isn’t it, people can’t all just drink and get drunk. One needs desperately to get more sophisticated, why the discrimination on behalf of those k*ller big countries when they allow it themselves?

Problem is he has compromised himself for the Dca royal family and that is saddening.

Mr Corbette please,people smoke weed in public all the time,not only during the World Creole Music Festival,and your police do nothing.Another thing is people have been using police authorised reserve parking on the public road 24/7 and the police do not ask reserve for who or reserve for what.People put reserve parking all over the place,they even reserve entire blocks.They put all kinds of objects on the road without police authority to reserve parking and the police do nothing.Reserve parking has become a damn joke in this country and the thing is they do not pay a cent for parking on the public road.Go tell your police do their damn job and do it properly.
