The annual Adult Education Division, National Skills Exhibition was held on Friday at the division’s office on Kennedy Avenue, Roseau, and featured various products made by program participants. The National Skills Exhibition is one of the activities for Adult Education Month observed in September. This year’s theme is ‘Empowering Growth, Building Skills, and Promoting Continuing Education to Strengthen Communities.’
Speaking with Dominica News Online (DNO), Head of Adult Education Division (Ag.) Carol Charles White said the aim of the exhibition is to highlight the work done by the participants from all across Dominica who have taken part in the different programs that the division offers to the public.
“It is a form of promotion for participants, as some may have plans of starting up a business with the skills they have acquired. This platform to showcase and highlight products will assist them, as the public will get the opportunity to view firsthand what they have done. Also, it is a form of promotion for Adult Education Divison as the public will be aware as to what the division offers,” White stated.
White said approximately 369 persons participated in the programs for the year 2023/2024.
“The Adult Education Division is open to everyone. There is no discrimination. We cater for the needs of all persons. It is a way for persons to empower and develop themselves. I urge the public to learn a new skill or enroll in the various academic classes that we offer. Visit our office and further inquire as to what we have to offer. That would be beneficial to you,” White added.
The Adult Education Division skills program offered to the public and showcased at the exhibition includes, wig installation, hair braiding, cake decorating, sewing, nail application, pastry making, carpentry, solar installation, punch making, massage, and make-up amongst others.
