Alfa Nero sold to former Google CEO

Antigua and Barbuda has successfully sold the Alfa Nero; a Superyacht that has been abandoned since February of last year.

Former Google Chief Executive Officer Eric Schmidt bought the 81.3-meter vessel at US$67.6 Million. The boat was auctioned a few days ago.

Manager of the Antigua and Barbuda Port Authority, Darwin Telemaque, noted that if the new owner does not conclude the winning bid in seven days, the sale offer will be transferred to the second highest bidder.

While the vessel was being auctioned the Eastern Caribbean Court of Appeal was hearing an emergency application to stop the sale. It was however rejected at the last minute.

The Antiguan government seized the yacht in April and had US sanctions removed from the vessel weeks later.

The boat has racked up hundreds of thousands in debt since it was moored in Antigua, including more than five hundred thousand dollars worth of fuel during her stay in Antigua.

The Gaston Browne-led administration said funds from the sale will be used to pay the yacht’s captain and crew as well as other creditors that have been providing fuel and supplies.

The Antigua government is seriously cash strapped. It’s external debts are mind-bogglingly reckless. So it was determined by this tax, borrow and spend administration to pass swift legislation, in parliament, to confiscate and sell another’s person property.

The sale of this luxury commodity may not be a done deal as the owner is presently petitioning the court to make him whole again.

The sale of the vessel was a desperate effort by this ‘broke’ aristocracy to make a small dent in its neck-deep indebtedness.

You don’t have any money to have bought it, so, shut up. The Antiguan Government has a right to do whatever they want to do with the abandoned vessel. Do you have an abandoned car that they can buy from you for $50.00?

Sooo in other words the next bidder will get the boat which is much lower than the accepted bid. Who is the next bidder? The first one will not be accepted soo the next one will get it. WHO is the next one. I smell a rat. The Port Manager is deeply involved. We watching.
