The VC Bird International Airport was the center of attraction on Thursday morning when an Amerijet cargo plane made an emergency landing there
The aircraft successfully touched down after its crew issued an emergency declaration while flying from Miami to St. Maarten.
Officials indicated that the aircraft encountered flap issues, leading to the decision to conduct a full emergency response at the airport.
Emergency response teams were quickly dispatched to prepare for the landing.
There were four people on board the Boeing 767.
Fire Chief and Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Vivian Parker said the Fire Department received the emergency alert at approximately 10:36 AM after being informed by the Antigua and Barbuda Airport Authority (ABAA).
In response, the Fire Services promptly mobilized and notified multiple agencies about the situation involving the Boeing 767, which was carrying four individuals.
ACP Parker praised the establishment of a rapid emergency operations center at the airport, which involved collaboration among the police, fire brigade, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force (ABDF), and the Red Cross.
