The twin island state of Antigua and Barbuda recorded its second homicide for 2025.
Forty-year-old Richard Winfield of Swetes was shot dead over the weekend
Police say a lone assailant approached several men on foot at St. Ann Road and fired multiple shots at them.
Two men, including the deceased, were transported to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.
Winfield succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 11:28 pm.
Meanwhile, the second victim, a 31-year-old male of Hatton, remains hospitalized, also nursing multiple gunshot wounds to his body. His injuries are serious; however, not life-threatening.
The police are asking anyone with information surrounding this incident to contact the All Saints Police Station at 460-1000 or the Criminal Investigations Department at 462-3913.
Crime is taking its toll on the inhabitants of the region. Illegal guns and ammunition are too easily accessible. The Heads of CARICOM should arrange a meeting with the US president about restricting the avalanche of guns from America to the Caribbean.
Donald Trump declared that his unilateral increase in tariffs of goods imported to the US from Canada and Mexico is due to the large amount of fentanyl (drugs) pouring into the country from the two aforementioned countries. So he should easily relate to our situation with guns coming from his country.
Steadily ‘Cutie’ Benjamin (he is anything but cute by the way), the minister of National Security, late last year declared that Antigua & Barbuda was the safest country in the
Caribbean (Fat Lie). What does he have to say now with these recent murders and stabbings?
Profound sympathy for the family and friends of the deceased.
