APP statement on protest action at DSC

What is our government’s priority? This question is necessary and absolutely timely in wake
of an industrial action that was staged on Monday, May 10, 2021.

This press release is being published at a time when the Lecturers and staff of the Dominica State College (DSC) are  protesting for the good of the college and its students.

The Alternative Peoples’ Party (APP) is alarmed at the sad state of affairs at the DSC. The sight of the dilapidated physical infrastructure of the facilities is, however, not as shocking as the real-time action of the State police, who purportedly acted on behalf of DSC authorities.

It would appear, based on live comments from an officer of the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force (CDPF), that the services of protesting DSC lecturers had been withdrawn and that they should exit the premises to avoid being physical removed. This is what was said in plain view and without ambiguity.

APP sees this as an utterly disturbing development. While we may not be fully aware of the terms and conditions of employment, it cannot be right for the services of protesting employees to be so unceremoniously withdrawn. We, therefore, call on the authorities to rethink this action and work with the concerned Lecturers who are representing the good of the DSC, the cause of the students, and the best interest of the future of our country.

APP stands in solidarity with the DSC protestors, and urge others to do the same. This is a matter of urgent priority. Our children and students represent the strength and future of our nation, and this is one of APP’s priorities. We believe in the empowerment of the youth. We ask the public to take note of this latest development and expect APP to be on top of it.

We cannot afford to turn our backs on the youth! We should not fail our children now! Our party pledges to continue to work for a better future for our children. The children are our future, and the future is now. Whatever future action is necessary is merited now, and APP calls on civic-minded citizens of conscience to take control of this situation. Our party will assist in leading the charge, in the spirit of true collaboration and progress.

Has APP abandoned its plans to formally launch its party on Saturday May 15th 2021? This date is a mere two days away and the public has not been made aware of any such event. Last year at the same time at its press launch, the interim executive advised the public that the party would be launched twelve month hence o May 15th 2021.

Is Dominica still on with this date in destiny

You and the Freedom Party, do nothing but to stand with the United Workers Party against the Labour Party, which is the Ruling Government of Dominica.

And yet the majority of the citizens continue to choose that Party to rule over them, as they go to the polls with a death ear to what you have said–for it doesn’t need to be heard in the first place. So why waste your precious time?

LizzyX , refrain from your false unsound accusations. As an octogenarian you should be paving a truth path for the youth population to follow. Be a good sample not a dishonest Skerrit apologist. Be of some value to your country by standing on the side of truth, fairness and righteousness.

Whoever he is IBO France is correct.. In order to keep any Government on its toes there must be constant review and criticism especially when its is clear that Government action is focused largely on staying in power and less on the national interest The eternal truth is that especially for the hiders in the bushes the silent ones who see nothing to criticise or opt to go with the flow you have a choice PAY NOW OR PAY LATER in terms of social, political and economic disorder

APP you say the right things and that is good. What about this. Instead of always coming out only when there is a ‘national crisis’, why don’t you consistently agitate for changes to most of the anomalies that are plaguing the country?

By coming out only when an issue gains national attention makes your party looks like opportunistic.

Why don’t you speak out about the many lawing abiding citizens that have to pay lawyers to defend them from bogus charges brought against them by this corrupt and dim-witted ‘police force’?

What about transparency and accountability for the billions of missing CBI monies?

What about the vulgar sums of money spent by the government treasury on the glamorous life-style of the Skerrits? ($64 000+monthly on rent, approximately $30 000 monthly in salaries and perks, unknown sum for personal security offered by the police). For want of space I’ll stop here for now. Ponder on these things.

I agree, they coming accross as opportunistic and in doing so they are squandering a great opportunity. Dominicans are fed up with labour, but don’t perceive UWP as a realistic alternative. APP and DFP have as easy an opportunity to establish themselves as the main political forces. But they don’t seem to have the competence to present a realistic alternative when the population is desperately seeking one. All they do is jump on hype like this, put out seasonal greeting mesages etc.

Our economy is a shambles, have you got an independent non-foreign investor based plan to stimulate it? Do you have plans to build infrastructure to monetise our natural resources? What is your position on a marijuana economy? The economy is our biggest concern because poverty is rampant while Skerrit and every non Dominican who can afford it gets concessions and access to our resources with priority over us!
