The Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL), in collaboration with the University of the West Indies (UWI) Faculty of Sport, has announced the return of its internship programme for the 2025 tournament. According to the CPL, now in its ninth year, this initiative continues to offer a distinctive combination of academic instruction and hands-on professional experience within one of the region’s most vibrant sporting events.
Scheduled to run from July to October 2025, the programme will accept 18 students who will have the opportunity to undertake a fully accredited three-credit Sports Marketing course provided by UWI. This course, delivered online by UWI lecturers, offers a solid academic foundation in sports marketing, which participants will apply in real-time as members of the CPL’s marketing team during the tournament.
Interns will gain direct experience at CPL matches hosted across six nations: Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, Guyana, St Kitts & Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Trinidad & Tobago. This immersive experience allows participants to observe the operations of an international sporting event closely while making meaningful contributions to CPL’s promotional efforts on the ground.
Over the years, the programme has empowered numerous young professionals from across the Caribbean, many of whom have subsequently secured paid positions with CPL and other organisations in the sports and entertainment sectors.
Peter Miller, Head of PR and Communications at Republic Bank CPL, stated that the organisation continues to be inspired by the talent, passion, and professionalism displayed by the students involved in the initiative, noting their fresh energy and valuable insights contribute significantly to the team each year. He expressed anticipation for the competitive selection process for the 2025 cohort.
“We expect nothing less from the 2025 cohort and anticipate a very competitive selection process,” he remarked.
Dr. Akshai Mansingh, Dean of the UWI Faculty of Sport, remarked that while past participants have benefited from the experience, the addition of the full three-credit course option represents an elevation of opportunities, underscoring the quality of the course available.
Applications for the programme are now open, and interested individuals can apply via the provided link.
