Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has revealed that works on the roof of the Arawak House of Culture have been completed, as part of a planned overhaul of the facility.
He shared this development as a guest on Creole HeartBeat Program, hosted by Ambassador Leroy ‘Wadix’ Charles, on Wednesday.
The Arawak House of Culture, which is seen as a significant part of Dominica’s cultural landscape, was severely impacted by Hurricane Maria in 2017.
“The roof has been done, so the roof has been completed,” he said.
He continued, “They did a fantastic job on the roof.”
“We have all of the artistics, we have all of the seats, we have all of the decorations on [the] island already. We have all of the lighting–now for them to go in and fit them,” Skerrit added.
The Government of Dominica on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, signed a contract with Caribbean Building Specialties Ltd. for the Waterproofing of the Arawak House of Culture’s galvanized roof.
The contract, valued at EC$113,000, was signed by Mrs. Gloria Joseph, Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Culture, Youth, Sports and Community Development and the company’s Director, Mr. Kamlesh Sharma.
Once completed, the upgraded Arawak House of Culture will serve as a venue for national events, particularly during Independence, DOMFESTA, Carnival, and Emancipation celebrations.
The extensive rehabilitation includes complete restoration of the external and internal structures, including the roof, stage, seating, flooring, foyer, and air conditioning. Additionally, a new sound and lighting system and artistic indoor and outdoor décor are to be installed.
So when will the ‘Advancement’ to the commissioning take place???
Skerrit know you are an imbecile,if people who were renting are now living in $400,000 mansion FREE is poverty, then you really are an imbecile.A DON KEY with no tail.
This egomaniac thinks all Dominicans are imbeciles. Fixing roads, schools, public buildings are nothing to boast about. The citizens are taxed into poverty therefore they have a right to get proper roads and edifices. The government allows these things to fall into serious disrepair then want to take the praise when these are repaired using tax payers money after an eternity.
What a government should take praise for is to create the environment for the vast majority of the citizenry to improve their standard of living. Ensure that almost every healthy adult who wants to work can easily procure employment. Ensure that healthcare and education are affordable and of high quality.
Boasting about fixing a roof of a public building is petty. This is nothing to crow about.
too little, too late
