
A man in his twenties has been taken into custody by law enforcement authorities and is considered a person of interest in a shooting incident that occurred at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island on Saturday, December 13. The incident resulted in the deaths of two students and left nine others injured.
A CNN article outlined that the gunman entered the campus on Saturday afternoon during an Economics class and opened fire on 60 attending students.
The article stated further that Sources observed police activity at a hotel in Coventry, Rhode Island, early this morning, where a CNN crew witnessed officers executing an operation. According to a source, wrote CNN, the suspect who was apprehended using cell phone information, is from Wisconsin and was found to have a revolver along with a small Glock handgun in his hotel room.
In response to the tragedy, Brown University is reported as having canceled all remaining classes and exams to support the community’s recovery. The city of Providence is also responding with a community gathering scheduled for tonight.
The city’s mayor, who visited hospitalized victims and spoke emotionally about the incident, expressed the city’s grief, as per the article. Community leaders have reportedly drawn a somber parallel to the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, in Newtown Connecticut, which resulted in 26 fatalities, including 20 young students. Sunday marks the 13th anniversary of that event.
