Bouyon producer and artist Smokiller, has announced the release of a new collaborative album aimed at revitalizing the authentic roots of Wrekateng, the high-energy Bouyon subgenre originating in Dominica.
A press release from the artist’s camp clarified that amidst the rising popularity of labels such as “New Bouyon” and “RnBouyon” across the Caribbean region, this project seeks to reinforce the genre’s foundational connection to Dominican musical traditions.
The album, fully produced by Smokiller, features contributions from notable artists including Klass Money, Charlie Black, Keith Goddard, O Banga, DJ Cut, and Mopo Neck. Additional artists and talents are expected to be announced in the future.
A significant aspect of the project is a tribute to Burn Brain Jolly of NKI/Nasty Business, whose distinctive flow and lyrical style, according to the release, have influenced many contemporary Bouyon artists. It argued that his work is regarded as a blueprint for the modern sound that has gained global recognition, and his influence remains an integral part of the genre’s evolution.
The write-up also explained that Wrekateng’s origins can be traced back to pioneers such as DJ Cut and the Bushtown Clan. The genre was further expanded by Nursery Krew Inc., with early-2000s hits like “Peanuts,” “Sorti Desandre,” and the NKI Medley playing a key role in its development.
“Smokiller’s album reintroduces this legacy to a new generation celebrating Bouyon’s true identity and impact,” stated the artist’s team.

It’s actually wild seeing the younger crowd from Guadeloupe and Martinique saying they invented Bouyon. Have you seen this? It’s all over TikTok and IG, and the debate is getting heated.
it could be that some artists using de term Bouyon to promote their paticular style /creation
Jeff Joseph and Groovers
Gordon and Exile one
First Serenade
WCK (de original )
sometimes you can’t see how some of these new trends will last 25 years without tweeking their sound a bit
that’s actually your opinion vs what’s going on out here..the new generation outside of Dominica are claiming it as their development. yes they’re claiming Bouyon is their creation and all the subgenres under it are theirs.
some musical styles being created lack longevity ………can/t survive de test of time like how reggae still standing next to dancehall
who wants to be a star
whenever one goes back in de bag some styles are faded……..others stand strong enuff while some left de stage
yea but this generation just claimed it as theirs lol.nothing to do with longevity. stole flows and styles and claiming to be the first to do it.
