‘As a government we will leave no stone unturned in determining the cause of this failure’, PM Skerrit says

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said his government will leave no stone unturned in determining the cause of a failure during construction at the Dominica Grammar School (DGS) last week where the concrete roof of the school’s auditorium collapsed.

He made the disclosure during a press conference on Monday.

The area in question has been cut off from the rest of the construction site and the DGS’s grounds.  The government is reportedly taking all the necessary corrective measures.

“First and foremost, we are thankful to God that there was no injury…” he said. “  That said, the incident is being treated with the highest level of seriousness and urgency.  As a government, we will leave no stone unturned in determining the cause of this failure  and taking all the necessary corrective measures.”

According to Skerrit,  the government has taken swift and decisive action in response to the incident.

This, he said, includes the engagement of an independent structural engineer, “and of course, this structural engineer will come from  St. Lucia  and he should be on island no later than Wednesday to conduct a full investigation,  a comprehensive assessment of all structures under construction at the site and the temporary suspension  of works.”

Furthermore, the prime minister indicated that a joint technical team from the Ministries of Education and Public Works is providing oversight and ongoing engagement with the contractors, school administration, and other stakeholders.

“It’s underway to ensure safety, accountability, and transparency throughout the process,” Skerrit stated. “ Let me reiterate that the safety of our students, teachers, and education stakeholders remains the government’s highest priority.”

He added, “We will not compromise on quality with building, and we will ensure that safety  is respected  and adhered to.”

As Prime Minister, he gave the nation his assurance that this matter will be addressed comprehensively and responsibly.

Did the contractor get the “build back better for a resilient future” memo? Because it sure looks like build back better did not happen.

Why do we need to bring in a engineer from St. Lucia? We have engineers working within the government service.
