Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley announced that the upcoming General Elections in Barbados will take place on February 11, 2026, marking the second time she has called an early election.
Her announcement was made during a speech at Westbury Primary School, where the nomination process for the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) candidate in the City of Bridgetown constituency was conducted.
Barbados’ Nation News reported that attorney Michael Lashley, who joined the BLP last year after stepping down from the Democratic Labour Party, was the sole contender and successfully received the party’s nomination, completing the BLP’s list of 30 candidates.
Mottley revealed that she had visited Barbados’ President, The Most Honourable Jeffrey Bostic, earlier today at State House.
She also instructed Attorney General Dale Marshall, who was present in the audience, to begin preparations for the election writs.
Reportedly, Parliament will be officially dissolved on January 19, with Nomination Day scheduled for January 27, leading up to the general election on February 11.
Mottley led the BLP to landslide wins against the opposition Democratic Labour Party in both 2018 and 2022. She is seeking a third consecutive term in office.
There is no incontrovertible evidence that Maduro was engaged in any drug trafficking. Why repeat this narrative from.an administration is averse to truth?
No matter how often a lie is repeated it doesn’t become truth. The Donald has openly declared that America wants full control of Venezuela’s vast oil reserves. This is the one time he has spoken the truth.
This narrative about Maduro was taken into captivity by the Americans because of his drug dealings is an obvious falsehood. Let’s stop handcuffing ourselves to lies.
Mr. Mia Mottley’s party will win easily sgain. The main opponent party is weak.
Barbados is in a mess. Billions of dollars in debt; crime rate astronomically high; businesses failing, unemployment escalating; and Mia has never turned down an opportunity to display her oratorical skills all around the world on taxpayer”s dime.
The Caribbean has a leadership crisis. Look at these so-called leaders – filthy-mouthed Gaston Browne, hard head Roosevelt, incoherent Philip Pierre, amateurish, detached Drew, lost a screw Kamla
Any leader calling a snap election, is corruption that is behind them like that… they are so scared.. they can’t wait for their term to end..
If the population is supporting you, why not calling it at the end of your term…
Skerrit can call it in 10 years time and he will still win.. so why should he want to call a snap election too.
Sinister political tactic against an ailing out of sync Opposition.
Go on the highway and convince the people benefitting from the housing revolution that they should not vote Skerrit. Convince the people in the NEP and yes we care, they should not vote Skerrit.Convince the senior citizens who are getting $300 monthly they should not vote Skerrit. Those above mentioned and their family number in the thousands,go and convince them.
So people are only voting for the current government for their own personal benefit? Well that makes perfect sense in our type of culture where people don’t think of the long term, only what they can get “now for now”. That’s why we will always remain a third world craphole, even worse than the other third world crapholes in the caribbean
very interesting observation – Why should all these things be dependent on one man? What would happen if God forbid something happens to him.? In my view creating a state of dependency is poor leadership – very poor leadership when you think of the times we are living with pending global chaos. In the 70s, 80s, and early 90s people from DA where way more industrious and were taking care of themselves becuase the leaders then were thinking of the next generation and what can be put in place so that the everyday person can make things happen for themselves and by extension the country. Can we say that this is happening today?
You forgot one group. The young people who must escape from Dominica if they want to BUILD, not GET a house.
The Bajans should snap you with their snappers..
That’s a style those corrupt Caribbean leaders following man? I guess she sees trouble ahead with the arrest of Maduro so before the case begins in March she feels she needs to secure herself first. We might hear Skerrit doing the same soon since he knows the US might knock his door before the Maduro trial in March. I don’t know how he will do it since there is more dirt on him
Maduro and his wife were not arrested. That would imply that they were arrested by Venezuela’s law enforcement for some sort of crime. They were infact kidnapped /abducted by a foreign state and being held hostage while world gangster in chief (Trump) continue to plunder their oil and stashing the money from the sales of this plundered oil into a secret bank account somewhere in the Middle East. Trumps said that he is governing Venezuela when he can’t even govern America without his gestapo thugs brutalising citizens and immigrants in states who did not vote for him and despise his autocratic rule. I would like to see him set foot in Venezuela if he thinks that he is running that country. He would probably need a whole battalion of his Gestapo to protect him if he dares set foot in Venezuela.
