Editor’s note: According to the latest announcement, the time for the opening of the road has been pushed back to 3 PM today.

Minister for Public Works Fidel Grant has announced that the Belles Road will reopen from 3 PM today.

Authorities sent out a notice on Tuesday (February 18) announcing the closure of the Belles Road. All traffic heading to Roseau and to the Douglas-Charles Airport had to be diverted through the Kalinago Territory and Castle Bruce.

According to Grant, in the meantime, a bypass was created to accommodate all traffic.

“As the nation is aware we are presently undertaking about eight projects to restore edge failures across the country, totaling just over eight million-dollars,” he explained. “We have one in the Penrice area and one in the Belles area.”

Grant further explained that the Belles intervention is costing over $860,000 which includes a 42meter long, 6meter high retaining wall and 66meters of slipper drains.

“Unfortunately, due to the increased rainfall in recent days the area was further compromised causing a collapse of the road,” he stated.

Grant continued, “Upon initial investigation, we felt it was best to close the road until a proper assessment was done.”

He added, “We took immediate action and I can report that a bypass was created to accommodate all traffic, so the road will be open today from 12 noon.

He urged motorists to be mindful that work is ongoing and the necessary precautions must be taken.

Grant thanked the general public for their understanding at this time.

I wonder what the next update will say
Did he say anything about the backhoe that keeps getting stuck in that area?
Did he mention it was about ten years ago this got washed out?
Did he mention whether or not Europe gave money to repair it after Maria?

is God telling us something…he is saying the evil men do lives with them…10 years such an important road…but for them the carbal is not…it’s better to give free houses than to fix this road…bunch of vagabonds…can remember when the north east had quite a bit of rain…and we thought the highness was going to address the damages done to these communities….then the highness came on radio to announce election….this wicked man…he could not be worried…he just want to desperately get back in office…Amos will not get u to heaven…search your heart….Dominica is worse off now compare to the days of Eugenia Charles…now there are much more thiefs…pocketing by the minute

Don’t worry, PM Skerrit will digitalize it and stinking pee pee Roseau. After twenty-five years of Labour nothing to show, better must come to Dominica one day.

Assuming that the Imperial Highway at Antrim is one of the eight projects presently being undertaken, the failed attempts to rectify the precarious state of the road over the last seventeen years have only served to make matters worse. The situation at Antrim is a disaster waiting to happen.

Admin. Perhaps now is a good time to publish my report ”Antrim Alert” that I submitted to you two years ago.
