
Dominican Bouyon Artiste, Wayne ‘Benji’ Benjamin has emerged winner in the first-ever Kari Soca Monarch held in Antigua & Barbuda on Saturday, October 19, 2024, with his winning song “Whistle While You Work”.
In a Facebook Post on Monday, Benjamin described the moment as one he shall never forget.
“The journey started off rocky, but at the end, I endured,” he said. “Along the way, I met hurdles and obstacles but never gave up hope, for my eyes were on the prize.”
He continued, “ Being able to accomplish this means a lot for Dominica, the culture, the people, and the genre in which we create Bouyon.”
Benjamin who is also a member of the popular local band, Triple Kay International said bouyon music continues to persist and break barriers, “we would never [have] imagined.”
He thanked the “Almighty Father” for blessing him with talent that he continues to showcase around the world. He also thanked the Triple Kay International band as well as his wife and children.
“Thanks to my entire support team both here in Dominica and Antigua,” he stated. “I am humbled and grateful for the support from the many fans across the globe.”
The first runner-up position went to Empress from Antigua with her song “Let it Rain”, while Rae from Trinidad and Tobago secured the second runner-up position with a song entitled, “Safe Place”.
Other participants of the competition came from Grenada, St Kitts & Nevis, Monsterrat, Belize, Barbados, the US Virgin Islands, and St Lucia.
