Deputy Fire Chief, Wayne Letang has confirmed that one man is currently nursing injuries at the Dominica-China Friendship Hospital (DCFH) following a boat fire at sea in the Newtown area today.
He said fire officers responded to a call at about 12:45 p.m.
According to Letang, on responding to the call officers found out that it was an open keelboat measuring about 29ft.
He reported that the boat belonged to a Bath Estate man, but was being operated by another young man at the time of the incident.
“The young man reported that he was refueling the boat and took it out to check, then he took a smell of fuel and suddenly there was an explosion,” Letang revealed. “That explosion threw him off the boat and he sustained some burn injuries.”
He continued, “The young man ,who was captaining the boat at the time, is presently at the Dominica-China Friendship Hospital nursing burn injuries.”
Letang also confirmed that the boat engines were completely destroyed by the fire.
“Letang also confirmed that the boat engines were completely destroyed by the fire.“ ….Letang confirmed that the boat engines were completely destroyed. But according to the photo I see smoke and the boat still going! Like a plane leaving smoke behind. And how did Letang arrived at this conclusion? Did Letang ask the Captain where he was going? How much fuel he had on board the boat? Did he have extra fuel on board the boat besides what was in the gas tank(s) to operate those engines? Was the Captain going to pick up goods or passengers? How often has he been borrowing the boat from the owner? Does he pay the owner to use his boat? In such accidents which could have been fatal many questions need to be asked. And was the Captain the only person on board the boat or did he have one or more passengers on board. We are all aware of what’s happening in the region and we should be very vigilant.
Try this: it is not actually smoke you see at the rear of passenger jet aircraft’s, think in terms of hot humid air produced by the engine mix with cool dry air outside the aircraft which results in the formation of contrails- by definition a condensation trail!
There is also another condition that can be seen, only when a pilot implement it in a cooling process!
“The young man reported that he was refueling the boat and took it out to check, then he took a smell of fuel and suddenly there was an explosion,” Letang revealed. “That explosion threw him off the boat and he sustained some burn injuries.”
Okay, so when he was refueling the boat he didn’t smell the fuel? Not until he took it out to check? And what did he go out to check? Was he going to raise some fish pot? Maybe going to buy some groceries? What was his mission for borrowing this boat? An “explosion”? A boat engine will catch fire sometimes due to a gasoline leak and passenger could either bailout or try to put off the fire which could be risky and may cause burn injuries. But an “explosion“ to throw you off the boat? This was some explosion. Well, he didn’t get to his destination…missions unaccomplished. Did his phone got wet? Oh, sea water.
you seem to know the mission so just get to the point. u even know if phone was wet or dry. hmmmm
His problems just start. Lets hope the Bath Estate man is understanding.
